I don't have any but I can see if I can get them and send them to you. It looks like most of the relatives are in Texas. Also that his name was originally Tamalowitz which is why you can't locate other family or family trees. He changed his name legally in the USA in about 1920. It also looks like only one of his children is living, but there are grandchildren. Let me see what I can do.

There are alot of Talmadges over there but to be honest I feel there is so much work still to be done on the Talmadge history.
I havnt heard any stories of the wild west but I would be interested in any info you have on the family.
I need to go through and write down some of the information other people have given me and update it which I am hoping to do soon.
Sorry I couldnt have been more help. Will let you know once I have updated the history of some family members.

Regards

This is so interesting and I will make sure that I take some time soon to look into this further. Thank you for the information. it's so sad when you hear that some of your family were in a workhouse. It must have been such an awful experience to have lived then. Let me get back to you on this and I will see what I can come up with.
Take care and best regards
Sara

Hi I have just started researching the talmadge family tree. I can go back as far as John and Elizabeth Talmadge in the late 1700's. I am descendant from William Tew Talmadge born in 1809. There seems to be alot of Talmadges in America. Don't know if any of you can help but you can look at my family tree and see what you think.

Additional details that may help clear this up discovered this morning (isn't that always the way?!):

1) Mary Ann Morgan Talmadge joined the North Presbyterian Church of Hardyston in 1885

2) Marriage record index for David A Talmadge & "Ella M. Manhanakey" dated 1888 located on FamilySearch.org.

These two items seem to make it clear that my great-grandfather, William Albert Talmadge (1885-1917), was Mary Ann Morgan's son, and not Etta's as previously thought.

I am trying to untangle the two marriages (and resulting children) of David A. Talmadge (son of Jacob Talmadge & Parmelia Card). David was born Dec 6, 1850 and died March 30, 1906.

David married Mary Ann Morgan on Feb 1, 1873 in Hardyston Township. I have a copy of this record. Sometime in the early to mid 1880s, he married a second time to a woman named Etta/Nettie M. ?. I have not been able to locate a record of Mary Ann's death or a record of David's second marriage.

Any one have any clues? NJ records are incredibly difficult to find on-line.
From what I understand, the original Talmages arrived from Lynn MA and settled on Long Island in East Hampton. However, one of the clan moved to Connecticut, Benjamin if my memory holds, and changed the spelling to Talmadge.

In the 1700's, one of the Talmages (Daniel I think and don't take any of this for gospel as I am writing without sources), came to New Jersey and settled in the Raritan (Somerville) and Morristown, Basking Ridge area.

It is this latter family from which I descend.

Unfortunately, I do not know about any of the people you mentioned and it is hard to pinpoint them due to lack of dates. However, from given names, there aren't too many that are similar to the Talmages of NJ. Further, my Talmages were quite a religious family with many of the sons becoming ministers in the Dutch Reformed Church.

I got his death date from the Social Security Death Index and Ventura County as the last place of residence. Oddly, though, I found no California death record on him. I'm wondering if he might have died out of state.

Also, do you have the date and place of his marriage to Beverly Brewer? Do you know when they divorced? And do you have the date and place of Beverly's marriage to Clayton Garman?

Hi, thanks for the reply. My wife's mother was Rose Talmadge (b. 4/7/1922 Balham, married Jean Emile Guerin 10/7/1943, died 13 /8/2002), daughter of Ernest Talmadge b. 1873 Battersea, who was the son of William Evance Talmadge. She had one uncle, George Talmadge. Unfortunately, both Rose & George deceased so unable to gain info. Will be very interested in anything you can advise.
Regards,
Brian

Hi, my wife is also a descendant of William Tew Talmadge. (Her mother was the daughter of Ernest Talmadge b. 1873.)I am new to family research & have been grateful for the information you have gathered. I understood from my wifes uncle (deceased) that they had relatives who went to the USA and rode in the wild west. I wonder if you received any replies to this post or have any further information on the Talmadge family tree.
Regards,
Brian

I found that the last name Talmach is derivative of Talmadge, so I am hoping someone MIGHT be able to help me. I was able to trace my father's side to a Patrik McKimmie and Issobel Talmach. Patrik was born in 1630 and married Issobel. They had sons Robert, Alexr, and William. I have NO information on Issobel at all.

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

No problem! I have found quite a bit more information since then:

George Evance Talmadge was married to my gg grandmother Alice Margaret Tily. This was her second marriage. Alice's first marriage was to my gg grandfather Isaac Hughes, who passed away shortly after 1881. They were all living in the Sheppey Union Workhouse, my grandfather Albert, his brother, Adolph (who you see using the last name Talmadge in 1891, and reverts back to Hughes when he is married), and their sister Harriet Eliza.

If you want any more info let me know

Hello there!

Well I think our trees meet! Albert Hughes is my great grandfather. I think he is a Step soon of Talmadge, not a blood relative. I looked at your tree, and was wondering if you know that information for certain? I was under the impression that Alice was married to a Hughes previously, before marrying Talmadge. I do find Albert, his brother and sister alone in Sheppey Union Workhouse in 1881. Do you have pictures of the Hughes side? My grandfather was Leonard William Hughes, the youngest son of Albert and Gertrude. For some reason we have tons of pictures from my grandmothers side....and only 1 photo at a distance of Albert Hughes, not one of Gertrude...

I will look more at your tree and see if I can trace that Talmadge family to the USA

Looking forward to contact with you
Katherine

The Talmadge antecedant we are researching appears to have been of Italian & Hungarian/Austrian desent. I have a sneaking suspicion, any Talmadge - Leadville, Colorado connection you may be seeking may be the Talmage/Talmadge family of Utah.

I have been researching the Talmage line for a number of years but not Jehiel's line. However, my ancestors were Thomas Talmage and Mary McCoy, through their daughter Susannah, the eldest of the family.

The number of clergy in this family is remarkable, most of whom attended the New Brunswick Theological Seminary (NJ). While Princeton had a similar seminary (Presbyterian), NB was Reformed. And, it was only a stone's throw from Raritan or Somerville where the Talmages lived (and Thomas is buried).

Anyone wishing to communicate with me on furthering this line, I would be pleased to share.

Sue

Is it possible that the Frank Talmadge you were looking for was related to Henry Pearl Talmadge?

Henry Pearl Talmadge I, son of Frances Anna Cossitt and Henry Talmadge, was born March 10, 1847, at Troy, New York. The Talmadge family were descendents of Thomas Talmadge, who came to the Colonies from England in 1631. Talmadge received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College in 1868 and married Lucy White on April 18, 1872.

They named their first child, born on September 22, 1873 in New York City, Lucy. The rest of his children were born in Netherwood, New Jersey. His son, Henry Pearl Talmadge II, was born on May 15, 1877, graduated from Harvard in 1899, and became a lawyer in New York City. His son, Arthur, was born on February 25, 1880, graduated from Havard in1902 and died eight years later, on January 10, 1910, at Prescott, Arizona. His daughter, Helen, was born on August 30, 1881. His son, Frank, was born on January 19, 1884.

Sherry;
I am fairly new at this, but hope to shed some light on the the darkness. I beleive thta the James Montgomery that you see in Nebraska is not the same James Montgomery belonging to Martha Talmadge. Look at the places of birth of parents that are listed.
I am of the line of Josiah Talmadge Montgomery who went west to California and who did not like to make himself apear on any census until 1900, so tracking him has been fun.
You will next find Martha and daughter Cora on the 1900 census living in Los Angeles, CA. I have tentatively tracked David Cora Montgomery to Lompoc, CA. and family oral history says that all but 2 of James & Martha's children would end up in this area. Again I have not proven this and really have only been doing this for a few months.
If you have any questions you can contact me directly at kimbal.montgomery@verizon.net , good hunting.
