My wife is related to the Tamayo family via Costa Rica.

I am just beginning the search for the family history and my downfall is the language barrier as I do not understand that much spanish.

Here is what I know so far. Her father was Jorge Rafael Tamayo Araya from Costa Rica. His father was Fernando Tamayo from Costa Rica. Fernando's father was Benigno Tamayo who was married to Clementina Araya Acosta. Benigno came from Cuba via Honduras. Benigno's father was Benigno Tamayo married to Eufrancia. They were married in Spain. They were from Barcelona, Carte luna.

Thanks for any help with this line. Again I may have some typo's due to the translaltion.

Thanks.

Hi Jon,
I am Simone Proenza. I was born in 1961 in New York City. My mother's maiden name is Tamayo.
My grandfather was born in Gibara, Cuba in 1909.
His name was also Emilio Tamayo. He married Rosa Jomarron.
Rosa and Emilio had 3 boys and 3 girls the youngest girl is my mother, Gladys. Emilio Tamayo died in 1989 at 80 years of age. His son's names were Juan, Nelson and Antonio Tamayo. Juan is the only surviving son and lives in Cuba still today.

There is no mention of dates in your request for information. What year was your father and grandfather born? I can write you with my grandfathers brother and sisters all Cuban born as well. My grandfather left Cuba in 44 for New York City where he became a Captain for the War Shipping Administration. He travel the world on a USS War Ship until he retired to South Florida with my then his 3rd wife in 1965.

I'd love to know what you have learned so far since your search. This is a great way to connect the dots and fill in the blanks. There are many Tamayo's on the passenger list entering Ellis Island. Check it out. I hope this helps.

I look forward to hearing back from you!

I have the Tamayo last name too. My last name used to be Fernandez Tamayo, it comes from Cosalá at least at the end of the 1700s. In the 1800s it was changed to only Tamayo. I don't think is Japanese.

¿How back do you know your Tamayo line? ¿Are you from Culiacán?
Ana

Walter
