Hi,
There is some Tarn family in northern Europe as well. My grandfather was Johannes Tarn and grandmother Marta Tarn (b.April 5 1908). However this name was taken by them during a campaign of national arousal of Estonia in 1930s. when surnames with german origin were changed into more Estonian ones, so Trautmans became Tarn.
Take care,
Hannes Tarn.

My great great grandmother was Elizabeth Tarn, born 6 Aug 1855 at Grange, Longbenton, Northumberland. Her father, Thomas Tarn, born about 1814 in Holwick, Yorkshire (this is actually part of the Middleton in Teasdale area in Durham county, where many of the Tarns come from. Thomas married Margaret Walton on 2 October 1842 in Newcastle and after that they lived in the Gateshead area.

Elizabeth had two brothers, Edward Tarn and Thomas Walton Tarn.
