Hi,,, I am 70 years old. From my earliest childhool I would try on the "Giant Ring" My father was at a circus when he was young.... he would be 105 if he were alive today. The Circus , I would assume would have been in Massachusetts or Connecticut, but he did travel a little when he was young so I am not sure. This would have been around 1925. He said that the Giant had the ring on his finger, and took it off to give to you if you wanted to buy it.. Which my father did. (I am sure there were many rings.) At some point someone asked the Giant if he was married and he replied...."I am a freak not stupid" of course he got big laughs. I see now that he was married a few times... maybe had children?? Anyway,,, the ring has fond memories of me and my father talking about "The Giant"

Hello, I am researching old letters written to my mother Helen Dooms during WW II. I have several letters written by John C. Tarver who was at the U.S. Naval Station in Jacksonville, Fla. in 1943. He was training to be a gunner. He had good penmanship. I'm wondering if this could have been your grandfather? I would like to know where he served during the war after he received his training. Thanks for any help.
I am looking for a John (Johnny) Tarver who was at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine in at least 1952 -1953 which would have been close to the start up of the base. He got a lady with child and he knew she was pregnant. That lady had a son and gave him up for adoption. I married this wonderful man and we had two great children. We don't want anything other than some history to share. If you know anything about this and would be willing to share some information we would like to hear from you. Thank you for your time.

Sir,

My father just handed me a J G Tarver Ring. It is one inch and 5/8 internal diameter. He purchased the ring at the Texas Centinnial (100) in 1936 for 25 cents. They were selling many of them but I doubt that many of them are still around considering the population of Texas in 1936 and today. J G Tarver was the original BIG TEX that is still an Icon of the Texas State Fair. Daddy is still with us and was 14 when he purchased the ring. I'm not sure of the monetary value, but someone in your family attended the 1936 State Fair of Texas or was given the ring by an attendee.

Jill,

In all your research efforts on Harwell Hill Tarver; have you been able to determine the following:

1)absolute confirmation of his father as Andrew Hipkin Tarver or was it another Andrew Tarver who resided in Brunswick county, Va OR are they one and the same...Or was his father one of the other older Tarvers residing in Northampton county, NC beginning in about 1746. I know that Andrew Hipkin Tarver was in Northampton county, Nc by 1746 and there is an Andrew Hipkin Tarver III who migrated into Morgan county, Ga. then into Webster and Stewart coutnies in Ga. An older Andrew Tarver (apparently the son of Andrew Hipkin Tarver of Northampton (1746) is stated by traditional sources to have migrated into Troupe county, Ga. and died there in about 1820 or so. I have not been able to confirm this, though, and have wondered if Andrew Tarver, father of Hartwell Hill Tarver(b.1791 in Brunswick county, Va. as you know)and who was in Brunswick county, Va. from about 1785 until he left to move to Georgia in about 1807 or so was actually Andrew Hipkin TArver II. Andrew Tarver, father of Hartwell Hill Tarver is shown in Wilkes county, Ga as evidenced by the 1810 Gerogia census
It is a little confusing---What I am atttepting to substantiate is......Andrew of Brunswick is either the son of the first Andrew into Norhampton county in 1746 or he is not...If he is not; he must be a son of one of the older Tarver brothers in Northampton. I would place Hartwell Hill's father, Andrew as b. abt. 1765.

do you have any information to show if Hartwell ever resided in Edgefield district SC as family record shows he was married there I believe in about 1823 or so

I would appreciate any help you can provide about this....I have worked on the various Tarver family lines out of Northampton coutny for many years and it is a very difficult taks to substantiate the links on down in the generations

I have (unsourced) parents of the two Charlottes as follows:

Charlotte Arnold Tarver 25 Dec 1786 - 13 Dec 1857
-- John (Rogers) Tarver abt 1752-16 Aug 1810
-- Mary Arnold abt 1754 - before 1800
she married Samuel Bennett Tarver, son of Samuel and Celia Jordan.

Charlotte Jordan Tarver 14 Feb 1772 - 18 Sep 1849
-- John Tarver abt 1747 - 16 Aug 1810
-- Elizabeth Jordan
she married Zachariah Arnold

Obviously, my John Tarver's have the same date of death, so not everything is correct. John who married Mary Arnold is closer to my line, and I have sources listed as the records of Elizabeth Pritchard Newson which are in the Washington County Genealogy Library in Sandersville, GA.

Seeking information on Earl and Lydia Walker Tarver. They were living in Detroit prior to Lydia's mother's death (Florence Tucker Walker Howard Lee) in 1927. Her step siblings appear to have been Victor P. Howard, Corrine Howard Green, Ray, Gladys and Ellsworth Howard. Lydia was born around 1901 and appears to have married Mr. Tarver (or at least is not with her parents) in the 1920 census.

Two Charlotte Tarvers in Wilkes County, Georgia?

Hello Tarver Kin,

There was much discussion on this topic a few years ago, but I cannot seem to find the "right answer" in what has been posted, or figure it out with what evidence I have.

1. A Charlotte Tarver (1786-1857) married Samuel Bennett Tarver. Wilkes County court records strongly suggest she was the daughter of a John Tarver and an Elizabeth Jordan. Several researchers give her middle name as Arnold, which seems to add confusion, because:

2. Another Charlotte Tarver (1772-1849), as his second wife, married Zachariah Arnold, and they removed to Tennessee. Several researchers have also suggested she was the daughter of a John Tarver and an Elizabeth Jordan.

There were a number of Tarvers and Jordans in the area. Could it be that each of the two Charlottes was the daughter of a different John Tarver and Elizabeth Jordan?

The Charlotte Tarver who married Samuel B. Tarver seems to have a fairly well documented ancestry. Can someone please help me understand where the Charlotte who married Zachariah Arnold fits in with the earlier Tarvers? Or, how the two John Tarvers and Elizabeth Jordans relate, assuming these are the correct parents for the two Charlottes?

I am related to both Charlotte Tarvers, as well as at least one of the Elizabeth Jordans.

Sure would appreciate someone more knowledgeable than I on the Tarvers pointing me in the right direction!

Thanks,

Bob J.

Looking for information on this family. I believe they married in Ohio and moved to Detroit, Mi. At the time of Lydia's mother's death in October 1927, it lists the famly as being in Detroit. Lydia was born around 1891. In the 1900 census in Butler, Pa., she has the last name of Walker and is living with her mother Florence Howard, her husband Allen, and a brother, Victor P. Howard. Other surnames connected with her (mother married again and then adopted her sisters kids) would be Washington, Lee.

I'm interested in any info on Andrew Tarver. Andrew and Ann had a daughter Nancy who married Wyatt Allen 1805. They had three boys that I know of; Robert L Allen, Andrew Young Allen and Wyatt Carter Allen who is my line. What is interesting is Wyatt Allen appears in the 1840 Twiggs co census and Nancy Tarver Allen appears in the 1850 census by herself. In your pervious post you mention Hartwell living in Twiggs Co. Any info you may have on the names above would be greatly appreciated

Re: Tarvers in Lafayette, La.

Hi there! It's many years since you posted your interest in the Tarvers of Lafayette, LA. My grandfather was Harry Warren Tarver. His wife of a few years was Gladys Evelyn Aaron. Harry had two aunts in Chicago with whom Harry and Gladys lived for awhile. My father, Henry Adrion Tarver, was born in Chicago. I found a link to Harry's father, Warren -- but my search ends there. I'm sure we have common relatives. Are you still looking and working on your family tree?

I am looking for a Johnny Tarver family who resided in Texas. This man was in the Air Force and I know that he was one of the first people at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine.
Andrew Tarver (c1764-1820) was the father of Hartwell Hill Tarver. Hartwell's mother was Elizabeth Hartwell Tarver (b 1791, Brunswick County Georgia)

Hartwell accumulated the land that became the plantation in Twiggs Co. and owned the trading post that became Albany Georgia. I know more about this line of Tarvers if you are interested.

I am very much interested in finding out which Tarver brothers fought in the American Revolution.

Jill Chesler
