Thank you Ida...there is a book written about Randolph county Alabama that states, Martha Teal (married John Nail) was a north carolina indian woman..her father was emanuel Teal. I cannot trace her mother though, and I know he remarried and had other children...I am assuming the the Teals were not indian. Anyway, it is a mystery. She was my gggg grandmother. If you could email any info you have, I would greatly appreciate it...my email is jennifer_tidmore@hotmail.com. Thank you so much

I am looking for information on a Catherine Teal/Teale/Teall who married a John Quigley. Catherine would have been born sometime in the late 1800's around 1890, I think and passed away sometime in the 1980's. I don't know where she always lived but she had a daughter (my great grandmother) named Catherine Elizabeth Quigley who was born on Oct. 17, 1915 in Philadelphia, PA. They were also possibly pretty well off. Any information would help. Thank you, Melissa Shivers

Catherine Teal/Teel of North Carolina, and Georgia

I am looking for information on Catherine Teal born 1805-1810 in North Carolina. She married Peterson Hubbard sometime before 1826. The lived in Fayette County, Ga, Henry County, Ga. and then moved to Harris County Ga in 1838 when Peterson drew a lot in the Georgia Land Lottery. They were the parents of 5 daughters, and 8 sons. One of their sons, Andrew Jackson Hubbard married Julia Ann Teal, she was born abt 1830 in Georgia. Julia Ann was a descendant of Loderick Teal b:1754 North Carolina. I feel Catherine, and Julie Ann were part of the same family, but I can't make the connection. She is listed on the census as Caroline 1850, Catherine 1860,and Coley.1870 & 1880 Harris County Georgia census.
Any informatin on who Cartherine's parents were, would be greatly appreciated.
I am hoping to find the son of Frances Almedia Teal (1918-1979) and Robert Allen (1917-1986). Frances grew up in AL, the daughter of Zachariah Monroe Teal (1852-1923) and Jeannette P Nicholson (1882-1945). Frances moved to Chicago in 1953 and married Robert Allen in 1955. Her obituary mentioned a 10 yr old son, but no name. She died in Chicago, but is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Marshall County, Alabama, along with many of her family members.

Re: Origin of Teal surname

More accurately that would be ORIGINS. Spelling in the early church and civil records is quite fluid. Branches of families changed spellings frequently, especially in the 1700s. There were Teals who were likely English (Cape May county, NJ) and Teals who were German (Northampton Co., PA and Sussex Co., NJ)...... some of the German families were originally Thiel or Diehl. The spelling TEAL is likely English in origin, but know that some German families adopted that spelling. My biggest error 27 years ago when I started researching was to be restrictive in the spellings I researched in early records. There are numerous examples in early PA church records of families flip/flopping between Diehl and Thiel and a dozen other variants (Diehl, Deihl, Deal, Deale, Deahl, Teel, Thiel, Tiehl, Teal. Dill, etc., etc.)
Ed Deal
Researching SE PA Diehl, Deal, etc.

How about an Elizabeth Ruth Teal? Born around 1832 in Ohio. Do not know parents but she married a Thomas Eli Johnson from Pennsylvania and they ended up in Napa Co., CA in 1860. There is a Peter Teal b. 1825 in Napa Co. in 1860 as well. Napa county was not very inhabited in 1860 and there was only one Teal in Napa Co. at that time. Any of this ring any bells in your family tree?

At some time he moved to Texas, as he did receive a pension there for his service during the war. He had a brother, William H. Teal, who had also served in a Georgia regiment.

They were the g-grandsons of Emanuel Teal, who was born in Maryland in 1713. Emanuel later moved to Pitt County, NC, where he died about 1793. Emanuel Teal is my 5th
g-grandfather.

I am a GGGD of Thomas Jefferson Teal (1888-1960 Marshall Co, AL) and am wondering if there is any relation to your ancester. I have heard that we have Cherokee or Creek in our distant blood line, and I know that northern AL had quite a heavy Native American population during this time frame.

I have not heard any of the names that you have mentioned, but I also just started my search. I would love to compare any info that might be of assistance to you.

Thomas T. Teal of Lubbock, Texas?

Hello,

I am seeking any kind of information on the family lineage of a Thomas T. Teal, who was my grandfather and lived in Lubbock, Texas from at least the 1920's (according to a census record) until the time of his death around 1973. Ancestry.com shows his birth around 1891, but no particular birth place and no parental names. I have no surviving direct family left, they all died when I was young, so I have never known this side of the family history & have no records or information about it beyond my grandfather's name.

If anyone knows of the Teal lineage that ties into Texas, or about Thomas T. Teal's family/parents it would be so much obliged.

Kindest thanks,
Tiina Teal

I recently found out that my ggg grandfather's parents were William MITTON and Mary TEAL who lived in Bainton, England. While there are only a few TEALs in Bainton, and no baptism for Mary, I noticed that Bainton is very close to Holme on the Wolds and that there was a Mary TEAL baptized there 10 Feb 1753, daughter of William TEAL. Does anyone have further information on this Mary?

In the marriage entry for William MITTON and Mary TEAL (30 Nov 1778) it says Mary was "upwards of the age of twenty one years". Does anyone you know if this means she was 21 or at least 21 but could be older?

TIA, Arthur (arthur.owen@rogers.com)

For some reason it's not letting me reply to your private message or send a new one so hoping this way will reach you.
I cancelled my subscription a couple of weeks ago so am unable to view your tree. However I have made the tree with the Teal line public so you can check if you have any connections. I don't believe I have any connection with Leota's Teals but will investigate further just to be sure.
I see from your profile you are in Salt Lake, I have a lot of Utah ancestors some of which lived in Salt Lake City and many of them Mormon Pioneers. Sadly 3 of them were orphaned whilst travelling with the Abraham Smoot Company when their parents, two brothers and a sister died. Sadly I have so far found no living Utah relatives so would be great if we had a link through the Teal family.
