Re: Leslie Tees and Jessica Fitzgerald Family

Hello Leslie (and Leslie?),

I am still early in my research, but I am related to the Tees-Fitzgerald family through their daughter Ruth, who was my grandmother (she died in 2003).

Some basic information from my records (mostly from family knowledge): Walter Leslie Tees was born 1888 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. (I think his father worked for a railway, which is why they moved down there.) Jessie Catherine/Kathleen Fitzgerald was born 1890-1 in Ontario. They were married 19 Aug 1910 in Ottawa, Ontario, though they were living in North Bay, Ontario at the time [Ontario Birth Registration]. I don't know when or where they died, but I could ask around and see if someone else in the family does.

Margaret Ruth (went by Ruth) was born 3 Feb 1912, in Montreal, Quebec. She married a Henry Alfred Sexton in St. Catherines, Ontario, had 4 children, and died 25 April 2003 in Toronto, Ontario.

I don't have information on any of the other children of Walter Leslie and Jessie, though I have heard of Marion. I think she died in the 1990s sometime, but I'm not sure. I expect my mother or one of my aunts would be able to give some more direction as to where to look.

If you're still interested, let me know what else you're looking for.

Andrew

I am Paul Maybery, great grandson of a James Tees who lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA around 1900. His son Raymond Schofield Tees was my mother's father. His daughter Katherine, my great aunt. I would appreciate any information. I know he was a shipjoiner(carpenter?) with the Navy in Philadelphia, and I have several of his possessions and would love to know more about that side of my family.
If you are still looking for information on William Tees who was born in 1830, I may be able to help. My gr-gr-grandfather Alfred Tees (b1843) had a brother named William who was born in 1830. William married Elizabeth Hoffman (b1836) and I think they had three children: Lillian, Martin, and Rosanna. They are the sons of Charles Tees (b1801)and Rosanna Upperman (b1801)and grandsons of Lewis Tees(b1762)and his wife Catherine and Adam Upperman (b1757) and his wife Elizabeth. If you like, I have additional information that I am willing to share.
Kathryn

Hi Mary

Just saw your message from several years ago about the Bibles you found ~ I am a descendant of John Labbree and Catharine Tees from Philadelphia. Think they married about 1828. If any of your info fits into this catagory (their son John Mason Labbree was my GGF.) John Labbree was grandson of John Hewson, Patriot of England and Philadelphia. Catharine Tees father was John Tees, suspect
his father was Lewis Tees.
Barbara bkdeangelo @aol.com

Hi Gordon,

I would be happy to try to assist you, but some additional info would be helpful ~ your parent's names and dates of birth, who were their parents if you know; in what area of the country do you live or where did they live? My folks are all from Philadelphia, Pa., from 1770's and forward; some other individuals in the Northeast area. Tell me what you know so I have something for a starting point.

Barbara at bkdeangelo@aol.com

Amanda Kushmore Tees was my gr-gr-gr-grandfather Alfred Tees's sister. As you may already know, they were each one of 10 children. I have visited the grave sites of their parents Charles and Elizabeth Upperman Tees at Palmer Cemetery in Philadelphia. Elizabeth's father was Adam Upperman and I believe her mother's name was Rosonnah. I have not yet determined Charles Tees's parents but there were only 3 Tees's listed in the 1790 census (Frederick, Lewis, and Peter) so I continue my search. Good luck with your research.

Kathryn Becek

Hi Stuart:
I definitely think we are related. Among the sisters and brothers of your grandfather was an Elizabeth born in 1888, who married James Cochran and came to the US in the early 1909-10. They are my grandparents. I believe I even have a couple of copies of a photos with your grandfather (Henderson - "Hendy" ) in them.

I have always know Andrew's family. His daughters and my sister and I, were pen-pals for several years. I kept up with the middle daughter, Betty, until her death a few years ago. I actually got to meet Andrew and his wife Betty in 1988. That was such a joy!! He was so like my grandmother.

I recently found Sam's family in Australia and met them when we went there on a business trip. Grand Folks.

I have been trying forever to find some of the other families of of my grandma Elizabeth's brothers. Please contact me .

While researching Laurence Kushmour I have run across George W. Kushmore married to Amanda Tees. George born about 1851, is one of Laurence's 15 children. I found Amanda and George's children to be Mary, Mabel V., Laura, Emeline and one son living with them in 1900--can't read his name but he is 14 years old. Emeline marries Harry Preston and I found them to be living with an Edith Kushmore, she is a sister-in- law to Harry Preston. Can not find if she is Emeline's sister or sister-in-law. Do you know why they were in the orphanage how they got there? Please email: Gretchen @ forget105@bemail.com

There is a branch of the Tees family which resided in Kensington, Philadelphia. Samuel Tees b c1797 married Esther Rothwell Connel on 18 Feb 1830. They had children Robert, Lewis, Esther, and Levin. The entire Connel family was very involved with the Kensington Methodist Episopal Church ('Old Brick').
This is a collateral line and I have more information on the Connel and Rothwell lines. I would appreciate death and burial information for Samuel (died 1874?) and Esther.

Two family Bibles have been found with notations of births marriages and deaths - one apparently belonged to Rachel Norris Tees, who married John Gardner Ambler. The other Bible belonged to Henry Marshall Hover, b. 1790, who married Lea/Leah Jones. Other names are Gardner, Tees, Egert, Wheeler, and various others. Does this seem familiar to any of the Tees out there? Mary Pattle Hover.

Eileen,
I visited the Palmer Cemetery in Philadelphia last week and discovered the gravesites of Charles Tees Born May 1801 Died Jul 1870 and Rosanna Upperman Tees (dates unreadable) parents of your Charles Tees. I also found the obituary of Charles Tees in the Philadelphia Inquirer dated July 9, 1870. If you are interested in it, please e-mail me at giverny.twosix@verizon.net.

I also noticed some Kushmores buried there. I don't know if this helps any, but here is the information:
Christopher Kushmore July 18, 1822-February 26, 1873
Matilda Kushmore December 18, 1826-June 17, 1878.

Kathryn Becek
Am interested in the Tees family tree. My g-mother Matilda Bennet Tees b@1990 d.4/1973 was from the Fishtown area of Philly. Her father, Henry George Tees was a tugboat captain on the Delaware river. Her siblings were Henry G., Theodore, & Mary. She attended a Catholic school in the area. Either her father or mother died when she was young, & the surviving parent re-married. Get confused because her husband's father or mother died young & also re-married. Matilda's husband--Rev. Charles Foster Salkeld from Philly. Their children--Florence Emma (my mother) & Charles, Jr.. Sister of Charles, Sr. was Florence who m Wesley Cann. They lived in the Mayfair section of Philly. Sure would appreciate you sending me the Tees family tree which you have. Thanks. Taddy

There is a slight possibility there is a connection between our families. The names George, William, & Elizabeth also appear in our family tree around the same time as siblings of my gggrandfather, Henry George Tees. They were from the Fishtown section of Philly. Henry m Johanna Kenny. Her siblings were born & raised in Ireland. My g-mother was Matilda Bennet Tees who m Rev. C. F. Salkeld, a methodist minister, however, Matilda (Tilly) was raised Catholic & attended a Catholic school in Philly.

My g-mother, Matilda, I believe was raised by an aunt, but I do not know her name. Either her father or mother died & the surviving spouse re-married. Gma never really said. I do know her father was a tugboat captain on the Delaware, and he tried to teach her to swim by throwing her in the river--didn"t work. It scared he so much she never learned to swim. I also know she attended a Catholic school where she said the nuns habitually boxed her ears. Karen (Taddy)
