Samuel Sr. and Samuel Jr. are both buried in Constantine Mi. I live not far from there and have been to the grave site. There is a large Tree shaped sandstone family stone and individual grave stones. You can e-mail me at rteesdale1@hotmail.com for more information.

Ron

Charles was the son of Freeman and Ann Teesdale who settled in Michigan and had a farm west of Constantine at Teasdale lake. They were married in Bigby England and I have a copy of the marriage license. They are both buried in Shavehead cemetery not far from the homestead at Teesdale lake. I have been to the church in Bigby and have a picture of it. I have not been able to find any other information as to their parents or relatives in England.

Ron

Hi Nick,
I've been doing a little research on the Teesdales in the last few days. I'm a descendant of Joseph's brother Isaac. My family tree online is embryonic because I don't have much time for research. You've probably found out the answer to your questions by now; there is so much information on this site via public family trees. My earliest Teesdale is John born about 1700 who married Elizabeth Gibbons in Willoughby in 1730. My paternal grandmother, Mary Florence Brocklebank, was the daughter of Mary Lucy Teesdale, born 1864 in Trusthorpe on the Lincolnshire coast. Anyway, thought I'd say Hi to a distant relative!
Sheila Holloway

No, haven't seen other envelopes. $500. is prob. out of my price range.
As far as Larkhall goes, early Scottish records show when/where he was born and baptized. When his son (my GGF)applied for citizenship he had to have proof of birth, so he sent to scotland and got what amounts to a birth cert for the records which were extracted from the official records of the county of Lanark, Parish of Dalserf. I have this orig. doc.
Terry

Hi Terry-Thank you for replying. I'm very happy to learn that this envelope was sent to your GGGF. I do not own this envelope, but it is up for auction by Cavendish Philatelic Auctions (go to http://cavendish-auctions.com/auctions_current/current_aucti..., and search in the bottom option (Search Descriptions) using Hamilton). The auction is scheduled for June 10th. The auctioneer estimates this envelope's value at about $500. Let me know if you have any problem connecting to the Cavendish website.

Have you seen other envelopes sent to your GGGF? How were you able to find his birthplace in Larkhill, Scotland? Jim

This is intriguing! I am curious; did every town in Scotland then have its own post office? Or did everything from a certain area go through just one town?

I was just in Dalserf and I saw no post office there.

It's too bad we cannot see who wrote the letter; if it was family or friend.

I recently found an old envelope that Hugh TEESDALE of Dallas City, Illinois received from Hamilton, Scotland in 1864. You can see the envelope on www.philgen.org (search on TEESDALE, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page). Several online family trees shown that Hugh was born in Larkhall, which is about 5 miles south of Hamilton. I am interested if this envelope is helpful to someone in their genealogical research. Can anyone confirm that Hugh was born in Larkhall? The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy and have started the philgen website. I do not know if the letter that was in the envelope still exists.

I'm a descendant of Joseph Teesdale, brother of Isaac, Lucy and John (b. 1804 Cumberworth, Lincolnshire). Is there anyone who would like to share information on the Teesdales of Lincolnshire? My more immediate family settled in Louth. I think Joseph was William Teesdale's son, who in turn was one of Edward and Rebecca Teesdale's sons, but will be happy if someone can confirm!

Thanks
Nick

I was wondering if you have found any more information on the Teesdale's in New York? I am a gggg granddaughter of Samuel Teesdale who came here in 1834. I know that he eventually settled in St. Joesph Co., MI, but have been wondering if he came directly to that area from Lincolshire. I thought it seemed unlikely that he came directly to Mich. in 1834. I have been gathering quite a bit of information on Samuel's parents, Edward and Rebecca. I may even have found Edwards parents, John Teedsdale and Elizabeth Bontoft, but I'm not 100% sure yet. I am happy to share whatever information I have.
Thanks so much for the reply. I haven't worked on the genealogy in about ten years, so I can't remember what a gedcom file is. I do remember sending one once, but due to my very limited computer skills(and anymore, my very limited memory!), I have no idea how to send one now. If you could refresh my memory on gedcoms, I could try to send info that way. Otherwise, I'm good with regular old email and snail mail.
I'm assuming you have been in contact with Arlettia Fyfe. She is where I got quite a bit of my information from. I've recently started research back up again because my aunt is taking a trip to England and has offered to visit Lincolnshire for me. I've sent to a couple different historical societies in Lincolnshire for genealogy records. I've been pouring over those the past couple of weeks. I haven't found out anything really great, cleared up some dates and found two more children of Edward & Rebecca. Also, have found the marriage record of Rebecca's parents.
Feel free to email me at soolou@charter.net
I'm so excited to get going again on the research and I really appreciate any help you can give me.
I just came across your posting. I too am a descendant of Samuel Teesdale. I suspected that John and Elizabeth Teesdale were his grandparents, but I haven't been able to place them for sure. In the record of marriages at Cumberworth 1561 to 1837, John Teesdale is listed as marrying Elizabeth Bontoft, wid. on 20 May 1725. Do you know anymore about John & Elizabeth Teesdale? John and Elizabeth would then be the parents of Edward Teesdale who married Rebecca Barnard. I've been trying to find more information on Rebecca Barnard and on Samuel's wife, Mary Evison, too. I'm happy to share any information with fellow genealogists!

Dear Anne, The TEESDALE name is not hard to find on the internet. My father-in -law, Homer Teesdale, wrote a interesting book about his family from Scotland titled "A Tree Grows in Scotland and America." There were two branches that came to America--The PA Teesdale's and the IL Teesdale's. Please contact me at rteesdale@bak.rr.com for more info. The PA Teesdale's had a Walter listed.

Edward moved on to Canada sometime after the 1920 census.
Another brother Harold went out to see them in 1930, visited both Canada and New York.
Is there any connection?.
Regards Anne.

John, Rev. Thomas, and Experience. I have seen other children posted online but not sure if they are proven. I haven't really researched this side of the family too much. Going off what others have done.

I think there is a big document in the Philadelphia Historical Society by Milton Rubincam, but have not made it there yet.

Might you be able to fill in some blanks?

Jeff

to Rebecca Teesdale - - - i have a Samuel Teesdale b.1786, that came over from Lincolnshire England in 1835. his son, also Samuel b.1815, married in 1850 to Frances E. Bryan who came from Moscow NY. her parents, John Bryan b.1794 - Sarah Babcock b.1795

daughter to Samuel (1) Lucy b.1821, married William Haywood b.1812 also from NY.

from these it either means that the Teesdale family went up into NY or that the respective mentioned people from NY came to another area where these Teesdales lived.
Samuel Teesdale Sr. was my 3rd great-grandfather and his son, Samuel Teesdale Jr. was my 2nd great-grandfather.
Samuel Sr. was born on Oct. 15, 1786 in Lincolnshire, England and died Oct. 7, 1861 in Constantine. Michigan. He was married twice, to Mary Evanson who died in England and who was the mother of his children, and to Ellen Aurill who he married in England shortly before coming to this country.
Samuel Jr. was born March 13, 1815 in Lincolnshire, England and died September 24, 1892 in Constantine, Michigan. He also was married twice, to Mary Cook by whom he had two
daugthers, Mary and Elizabeth (my great-grandmother) and then married to Francis Bryon by whom he had two sons, John and Joseph.
The Teesdales were among the first settlers of Constantine and their descendants lived there for over 140 years, six generations in the same house. The family was Methodist and donated the land for the Methodist church which still stands there.
David,

Thank you for your message. Unfortunately, my website was inadvertently erased a few years ago - combination of a hard drive failure on my part and a simultaneous closure of the webhosting company which held all the files online. After this loss of data, I never quite had the right opportunity to restore all of the information which I had spent such a long time compiling. I managed to re-upload one of the webpages, but all of the links were unfortunately gone.
As for the Teesdale's in the Military page, I had generally compiled that list from a Civil War database, and from a readily accessible UK site which allowed searching of multiple wars. The rest of the data was from my own family line. My military ancestry researched has led me as far back as my 4th Great Grandfather, Robert Teesdale of the First Regiment of Foot (First Royal Scots) who fought at Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria then finally Waterloo during the Peninsular Campaign. His son came to America and died at Gettysburg. I keep hoping to one day get the chance to rebuild my website. Best Regards, Don

Wow! I was perusing the internet for information on Joseph Teesdale and hit a gold mine. I am a direct descendant of Samuel Teesdale through John Bryan Teesdale. My records of the Teesdale family, unfortunately, do not run past John Teesdale and Elizabeth Bantoft. I have precious little information regarding any branches to the sides. These are holes I would like to fill. I had suspected that there were Teesdales that fought in the Civil War. Other ancestors of mine did, but for what ever reason, we don't have any family record of the Teesdales in this war.

I would love to share information, GEDCOMS, whatever.

Looking forward to hearing a reply!
