I believe you are correct. Martha married William Harvey s/o Thomas Harvey and Elizabeth Andrews about 1650 in Boston. He died 15Aug1658, but they had 4 children: William, Capt. Thomas, John, and Mary. William and Mary died young. Martha then married Henry Tewksbury 10Nov1659 in Boston and they had 8 children. Their last son, Deacon John Tewksbury is my direct line. Would be glad to share any other info if you like

I believe that Martha's mother was not Goodeth (Itchenor) but Ann Rogers d/o Robert Rogers and Cecilia Taylor. William Copp married Ann on 24Nov1614 in Hatton, Eng and she died in 1633, and then he married Goodeth Itchenor on 21July1634 in Hatton. Martha was born 16Aug1630, so Goodeth was most likely not her mother. I have lots of info in the Tewksbury's if you like.
Mary Alice Tewkesbury b 1856 Illinois

I'm just starting to research the Tewkesbury line, and I'm only doing it for my wife's cousin, not myself, so I don't have a lot of data. I know (reasonably certain) that Mary Alice Tewkesbury was born around 1856 in Illinois and married Thomas Walker II or Jr, on July 3 1874, and died June 8, 1916, Kane County Illinois. I'm stumped on her parents. I think her father was Frank or Francis Tewkesbury, b. CT, no year given. I have conflicting info on her mom, from family sources that I can't verify. Mary's mother (Frank's wife) may have been an Elizabeth Perry or may have been someone else entirely! Any and all info would be really really awesome, as the kids say these days! A direct reply to me at tomseeley at hot mail dot com would reach me faster than a response posted here, but either one will work. thx in advance.

Many thanks for your comment and apologies for not updating this.

I recently was given some of my grandfather's old records which shows the maiden name of his first wife, Gladys, as Campbell. I can only imagine that the Tewkesbury reference from my parents was to her mother's side of her family.

Very few traces remain of my paternal grandmother in my family's records.

Hi... I am Jocelyn's brother Jason. I saw the reply you posted about Henry and thought I should respond. The Henry Tewkesbury you mention from 1841 may/may not be our ggrandfather. He was married to a Louella (Gould) and had two children we know of; my grandfather Henry (c. 1892-1958) and his sister Harriet. Since Henry and my grandmother divorced, we don't have much else about him other than he passed away in Chicago.

Dear Jocelyn,

My 2grgrandfather, Walter Tewkesbury, b. 1853 Isle of Wight, England, had an older brother, Henry, b. 1841/2, Isle of Wight. I do not know what happened to Walter's siblings, but, Walter immigrated to Brockport, NY and later moved to Rochester, NY. He was a mason by trade. Maybe your Henry is a namesake to Walter's brother, Henry? Just a guess. My Walter died in 1947 in Rochester, NY. Do you have any more background info about Henry?

Since my previous post I have found a James Benyon living with John and Mary Lecocq on Alderney, Channel Is in the 1841 Census, and Ann Benyon and James Stephen Benyon living in St Hellier, Jersey in the 1851 Census. Ann gives her place of birth as St Anne, Alderney. Are there any Tewkesbury's or Lecocq's in the Channel Is that know of Ann Tewkesbury, her marriage to Stephen Benyon, her family history or movements.

Peter Boyes
New Zealand

I am having trouble confirming his family connections to anyone in England. Any information, leads, or family contact would be great. Peter Boyes, New Zealand

I am trying to trace any details about my paternal grandmother, Gladys Amy Margaret Angelo, neé Tewkesbury.

She died in India, in 1920, when my father was 4 years old. He had only vague memories of her and the only record I now have is an entry on her Indian marriage certificate recording simply her full name.

She must have been born around 1890 and she is not the Gladys Tewkesbury whose family originate from the Channel Islands.

Dear R.W.,

I am researching my branch of the Tewkesburys, my grgrgrandfather being Walter Tewkesbury, b. 1853, the U.S. Census only states England as place of birth. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1872, settled in Monroe County, New York, and married a Frances, also born in England. I have another Walter Tewkesbury in the English records, born the same year on the Isle of Wight, but, I cannot confirm this. Do you have any info on a Walter Tewkesbury born in 1853?

Dear Caroline,

I am researching the Tewkesburys on my maternal side. Her grgrandfather's name was Walter, on the Census, says born in England around 1854. I have traced a Walter Tewkesbury on ancestry.com to the Isle of Wight (the date of birth matches), and I have also found another Walter Tewkesbury born in 1887 in Wooten, on the Isle of Wight, father named Edwin. I wondered about the possiblity of this Walter being named after my Walter and Edwin and my Walter possibly being brothers. My Walter (grgrgrandfather) arrived in the U.S. in 1872, settled in the Rochester, New York area and was successful as a mason. He married a Frances and they had a daughter, Carolyn. She married a John Short in 1894, whose fatehr was from Ireland. Any other info you may like to share would be helpful, if you think we have a match! You can e-mail me at: tswovic1@rochester.rr.com.

I am trying to trace my family history. When I was in Belgium I saw that a Frederick Robert Tewkesbury (son of H and Sarah Ann Tewkesbury) had been killed at the age of 28 in WW1. He had been in the Essex Riding Regiment. I am trying to find out if he is an ancestor of mine, or how he relates to the wider Tewkesbury clan. His parents had lived at 36 Ferndale Road, Forest Gate, Essex. Does anyone have any info on him?

Just yesterday I came across a confusing bit of data myself, and it seems related to your own.

Our family genealogy (HERVEY... see http://www.mdhervey.com for more) traces back to William HARVEY of Taunton, Mass, who married Joane HUCKER.

Our genealogies have him dying in 1691, and do not mention a second wife.

So, imagine my surprise to find at Ancestry.com, in the Massachusetts Pioneers database (collected from very early church and civil records) that William's wife Joane had died sometime in the early 1650's, and he had remarried a woman named Martha about 1654.

Then it went on to tell that he had died in 1658, leaving his wife Martha widowed with four small children. In 1659, the estate was administered in her favor; later that year, according to church records, she married Henry TEWKSBURY.

So, do we have COPP, HARVEY, and TEWKSBURY children all mixed up? Just thought I'd let you know about that interesting bit of information.
