Thorkee family of Minnesota and Wisconsin

Alex Anderson Thorkee and later his wife Lena Dolifson and children Oline M. (later changed to Marie), Gladys M. (later changed to Martha), Alfred, and Arona arrived from Gjovik Norway, and settled in the Osseo WI area in the first years of the 1900. I believe his family name was Anderson but lived on the Thorkee farm. A fifth child was born in 1909, Martha Matilda, and the 1910 census lists Alex as a widower. Arona is not mentioned in this census. Martha was adopted by the Maug family and Alex and the family moved to Minnesota. I am interested in learning what happened to Lena and Arona, and what became of Alex, Marie, Martha and Alfred between the 1910 and 1920 census', after which I picked up the three children in Minnesota. I would love to connect with anyone who knows of this family. Marie was my grandmother. Thanks in advance.

Just this weekend, I came across a photo I believe to be the Thoreson family at an outing of some kind. I am unsure of the identity of all except Arvid and Marie. When I get home, I am at my mothers in Proctor, I will scan it and send it to you. Do you have any info on the parents of Anton or Anna Norman?

My great grandparents were Anton and Anna Thoreson, who lived in and had several children (one, Arvid, was my grandfather)while living in Moose Lake Minnesota. They later moved to Proctor (Midway)Minnesota. I would like to communicate with anyone who would like to trade information about this Thoreson family.

Hi Peggy

I was doing a little more research and Charles Thoresen did marry a Matilda and have 2 children, I have found them in the 1900 census in Montana, in the 1905 census they are back in Minneapolis living with Jens and Inger Thoresen and Charles dies in 1910 in Minneapolis. this confirms the relationship to your Georgine.
My email address is sfox132@gmail.com

Shelley Fox
Hi Peggy

I have a Georgina Thoresen in my tree that married an Otto Holta, is that your family?

That is interesting about Charles Thoresen I thought that he may have died about 1910 but know nothing about him.

Georgina's parents Inger and Jens came to Minnesota, their 2nd oldest Julie stayed in Norway and their son Knut Johan Haakensen my grandfather came to Minneapolis in 1905 just about the time that Jens died and then Inger died in 1910.

Let me know if this is the same family. Would be exciting to learn more about Charles and your family.

Shelley

Just saw your post from 2009. I had a great uncle named Charles Thoresen, born in Norway around 1860. He was a painter, often did church frescos, and lived in Minneapolis, Chicago, Paris and Montana. I believe his wife's name was Matilda and he had two sons, Willie and Ralph. His sister, Georgine, was my grandmother. My information is sketchy. Georgine died when my dad was a young boy and a lot of the family history was lost. Do you think we are talking about the same person?

Peggy

Obit: Valerie Thoreson of Iowa (1963-2008)

Valerie Lea Thoreson was born on January 7, 1963 in Spencer, Iowa. She is the daughter of Wanda (Thoreson) Mills. Valerie attended Ruthven Community School where she enjoyed participating in sports, band and cheerleading. She was exceptionally good in track and went on to the Junior Olympics in 1977.
On April 27, 1980 Val was involved in a devastating motorcycle accident which left her paralyzed from the chest down. She spent eight years at the Emmetsburg Care Center and from there she went to live in Waterloo.
Val struggled with her paralysis and with the acceptance of her disability, but as she continued to work through these issues she found an even greater strength in her desire for a relationship with Jesus. Val stated, “Now that I know Jesus and I am going to Heaven, I am a much happier person.” Even though the accident broke Val’s body it did not break her spirit. She loved life and made the most out of it. She touched the lives of many people and she appreciated all that those individuals did for her. The people that cared for Val became part of her family. Val cherished the visits from her family especially her brother and his family.
Valerie died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Manor Care in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 45. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Effie and Knute Thoreson.
She is survived by her mother Wanda Mills and her husband, Richard of Spencer, IA; a brother, Justin Thoreson and his wife, Dawn of Granite Falls, WA; niece and nephew, Justin II and Joselyn Thoreson; many cousins; as well as other relatives and countless friends.

Service:
Thursday, April 3, 2008
1:30 PM
Zion Lutheran Church
Ruthven, IA

INTERMENT
Crown Hill Cemetery
Ruthven, Iowa

THORESON / LAWSON Family Photos

I recently rescued several photos from an antique shop in Houston. One is a photo of Emma THORESON Lawson taken in 1898 when she was 17 years old. It was taken by Greenlund and Greene photographers of Warren, PA. Additionally, I picked up a photo of her children, Mildred LAWSON and Chester A. LAWSON. I also picked up Chester's 1931 University of Michigan photo identification card.

I left countless photos of this family behind at the shop because I didn't want to spend a lot of money if I could not locate interested family members.

If anyone is interested in these photos, please contact me. I want them to get back to family.

Debbie

Quote: "And they who need his hand to lead find they his voice untender?"
Need we describe Thoreson's merits? It is enough to say that he has been President of our class for three successive years. Thoreson came to us in the latter part of our Freshman year after he returned from overseas. "Cap," besides being an active member of the basketball team, has been captain for two years. He showed us what a really good leader he was when he substituted for Miss Boles during her absence but you should see him at class meetings! Reider intends to take up a chemical engineering couse at the University of Pittsburgh next year. Source: The Mirror Commencement Vol. XIV No. 5 p. 12 Punxsutawney High School.

Thoreson Family

I am looking for anyone who is researching the Thoreson family who came from Horten(Horton), Norway. They immigrated in 1888, father: Thor and mother Maren Sibile Thoreson. Children included T.H.H. Thoreson and Valborg Thoreson. T.H.H. Thoreson eventually became mayor of Grand Forks. I am trying to find info on Thor and Maren. They originally settled in Wilmer area. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
