Thorp Family Photos

Hi, I purchased photos of Ohio based Thorp family members at a local antique store in Oregon. Some of the names are Rachel Evaline Thorp nee Loomis (1839-1907), her daughter Edith.

EDIT: Originally a query to find interested relatives to send the photos to. Relatives have been found already though, but I'll still leave this post up so you can see attached photos:) 1st two photos are of Rachel (Loomis) Thorp. 3rd photo is Edith.

Reunion News
September 2, 2011
The OBSERVER
Norton Family

About 70 descendants of Welcome DeForest and Barbara Bowers Norton gathered on Aug. 6 the Stockton Firemen's Fraternity Grounds for a family reunion. The four family branches - Norton, Thorp, Dalrymple, and Swanson came from various parts of New York state, plus Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, and Missouri. Chairpersons of the event were Susan Farnham, Kay Kriner, and Barbara Gagliano.

The main entree was provided by Bill and Carie Norton and Cindy Tanner, with many dishes to pass. Don Thorp served as emcee, and offered the prayer. He also read a condensed geneology, and read a poem written by Louise Norton (Dalrymple) in 1933, for which she received 50 cents when it was published. Music was provided by Mark Hussey, Dan Thorp and Dave Dalrymple. Bill Norton and Dave Dalrymple conducted an auction of donated articles to pay for expenses, and funds for the next reunion. Youngest descendant was 3-month-old Anya Farnham, and oldest were Louise Dalrymple, 92, and her sister, Julia Swanson, who will be 90 this month. Some of those attending took a tour of the Stockton Greenwood Cemetery to visit graves of those gone before. Fern Thorp DeMaio, who passed away March 8 in Bellingham, Wash., was remembered.

The night before, Dan and Kathy Thorp, Cassadaga, hosted an early arrivals picnic, with a bonfire and a memorial time, honoring our country, and those who have and are serving in the U.S. armed forces. The day after the reunion, a memorial service was held at the Stockton Community Church for Edward N. Thorp who passed away on Feb. 12 in Florida. Edward was the husband of Joanne Thorp of The Villages, Florida.

Pastor Richard Hamilton presided. The Cassadaga conducted a military service at the cemetery with taps played by nephew Mark Hussey. A reception followed at the Church's Family Life Center.

Seeking to learn the relationship between Lois Thorp (1780-1835) and Ruth Castle (1752-1836) who share two halves of the same tombstone in Association Cem., Sylvania, Lucas, Ohio. It's very likely they were both born in Woodbury, Litchfield, CN. I have a hunch Ruth's maiden name was Squire. An image of the tombstone can be viewed on www.findagrave.com.

I thought this may be who yall were talkin about...but wanted to be sure...I come from Mildred Jane Tharpe and Nathaniel Gilmore Carter...When I was a child a lady by the name of Elizabeth Carter from the Fredericksburg Virginia area would travel to all the Carter reunions, collecting info on the Carter families. She had said she was going to write a book. I don't believe it was ever written. Years ago I tried several times to reach her, but never made any contact. She claimed that there was American Indian in our line and she could prove it. Maybe someone will read this that knows what happen to Elizabeth's collection of information.

Thanks
Patty

My great-grandparents were Walter Tharp/Thorp and Cora Childers Tharp/Thorp. I vaguely remember her and don't know much about her. My mother and aunt say there's Native American (somewhere) but not sure which side. Apparently, being Native American in Alabama was not talked about a lot (if any). I can't find ANYTHING. I do remember my grandfather (Talmadge Porter Thorpe) being very dark. Anyone know anything about the Tharp/Thorp/Childers lines? I'm stuck!

Ester Thorp from Tyrell County North Carolina

I am trying to find information on Ester Thorp. According to documentation on a web site and land purchase in Tyrell County North Carolina, Ester was married to Randal Johnston (Johnson). I believe they may have had a daughter named Hannah. Also, in a will posted on another web site, I discovered that her father may be Paul Thorp and his wife was named Hannah. These documents mentioned above are dated in 1755.

If anyone has any information regarding the family, I would appreciate it and I am willing to share information that I have on the Johnson lineage.

You can e-mail me at peggyabbott2010@hotmail.com
Thanks,
Peggy Abbott

I believe that Jenson Beers is also a son of Ezra and Perthena per a letter I have from Jenson's wife written in 1869. She writes that Jenson was born in Ontario, New York and had a brother Calvin or Harrison who lived in Hillsdale, MI with a son Ferdinand. Perthena's father Nathan Thorp is buried about 20 minutes from me in Bath, OH. I would love any information you have on the family.

My best information is that my Isaac's father was Thomas Thorp b. 1742 England, a British ensign that left the Royal navy and settled in the Colonies. I've seen a Thomas Thorp in VA....and we've been told that was his fathers name, but I've been unable to make a definate connection. Isaac was born in 1788 NY.

hi Mike,

I saw your post to another researcher. My Thorp tree descends from Isaac Thorp and Sophia Tubbs....they had 14 children...I am from Thomas Earl and AMartha Glenny Stevens. So we seem to share a lineage?
Hi! You asked about Albert Earl Thorp and Lona Ida, well
Albert Earl is my Uncle, my Mother's brother, so I know their kids very well. They had 4 kids the Oldest was Rodney Earl Thorp then came Larry Thomas Thorp they both have died now then came Rita M., and Marcus D. Thorp. But you wanted to knoe about Lona Ida's she was raised by her mother's brother: Luther and Hazel Brown in Prescot, Arkansas. Hope this helps. My e-mailaddress is: pam.norman.2@verizon.net hope to hear from you. Pam Norman
