In researching the Nereson family tree, we have found that a man who used the name Neri Gunderson (originally Naere of Skomedal) came to America in 1844 on the Columbia, with his sons Jorgen, Nels, and Gunder. They originally went to the Jefferson Prairie Norwegian settlement, then moved to Dodge and Mower counties of Minnesota. I thought some of the Neresons around Rochester and Austin might be related somehow, but it turns out that's a different line of Neresons. Jorgen went on to Sibley County, MN and from there we know the rest of the family tree pretty well. Gunder was married at least twice and had many children, but records are scanty and we haven't found info. about Nels. Our g-g-grandfather's headstone says "Nerisen," so there are variations in spelling.

I am definitely curious about the parallels between our two GGFs. As I originally posted, my GGF Anton Allum Thorson immigrated from Larvik, Norway, married my GGM Laura Matilda Solberg in Blooming Prairie, MN.

Around 1906ish, the family moved to McVille, ND in Nelson County. From A History of McVille, my GGF was the original President of the McVille chapter of the Sons of Norway.

I have absolutely no knowledge of whether my GGF had any siblings. So, it is a possibility that we may be related. My email is tthorson71@gmail.com.

I am attempting to trace my paternal ancestors in Norway, and with the difference of how surnames were handled in Scandinavian countries, I am somewhat confused on whom I maybe descended from. Anyway, here's what I know:

2nd GGF: Thor Allum Thorson (b. abt 1849 in Trondheim, Norway) married Trina (Trine?)
GGF: Anton Allum Thorson (b. 23 Oct 1869 in Larvik, Norway), immigrated to U.S. in 1893, then married Laura Mathilda Solberg (b. 30 Jan 1875, LaCrosse, WI) in Dec. 1898

----------------------------------

2nd GGF: Arndt Solberg (b. abt 1849 in Trondheim, Norway), immigrated to U.S. 1868 and married Kari Aslesdtr Brunsvold in WI, U.S.

----------------------------------

Does anyone have a suggestion on how I should proceed?
I am looking for information on a Sarah Thornson(sen?). Her brother was my Great Grandfather, Oliver A. Rudd. I don't know what Sarah's husband's name was, or where they lived, but Oliver immigrated (1881/2) from Drammen to Wisconsin, then to WA state. He later went back to Norway (1886), then Wisconsin, and again WA state (by 1888). Did you ever find out whose photos you had? I know it's a long-shot, but I saw "Thorson" "WI" and "WA" and thought I'd ask if any of my names sounded familiar?

Thanks!

Tiffany

I noticed your post and wondered if you received the information you needed several years ago.

I am Eugene Pearson, the son of Harold Pearson, who was the son of Selma Thorson Pearson, the daughter of Bengt Thorson.

A very well-written family tree was put together by Rosalee Pearson in the mid-1980s, and revised a few years ago.

The annual family reunion continues to meet in Oceana County, Michigan. We meet at the West Golden Wesleyan Church on the Sunday after July 4.

I have been one of the family reunion presidents in the past, and the reunion is now organized by Stanley Rickard and his wife.

I live with my wife in the Grand Rapids area. I remember visiting your family farm when I was a "kid" and enjoyed those times a lot.

If you need further information, please let me know.

Eugene "Gene" Pearson

My grandfather was Peter Thorson who died 27 May 1924 and lived in Brooten at before his death. He actually died at the Watkins Hospital in Watkins, Meeker County, Minnesota, where his daught Selma was a nurse. My understanding is he lived in Brooten with his daughters. They took care of him and his wife Maria, she died in 1922. There were 3 daughters in Brooten: Lillie Mahlum, Guida Thorson, and Olga Nelson. His sister-in-law was Carrie Syverson. Is this the same person? My mother was a Thorson.

I am looking for info for a Ralph Thorson. All I have is that he was working in NY in the 1930's. I believe he was born between 1885-1895 .. He was briefly married to Edith Colburn and they had a daughter Arline Thorson. They divorced and no one has ever heard from him again.

Jill

Ole Thorson, bio

THORSON, Ole & Agnett (BLEGEN)
Mr and Mrs Ole Thorson, daughter, Ingeborg and twelve year old Elesa, left Lillehammer, Norway by sailboat in 1864 on the 12th of April and landed in Quebec, Canada on the 4th of July. They took along their own food, as no food was furnished on the boat. They took along a gallon of cream which had to last for the entire trip, also flatbread, dried beef, salt pork, peas and coffee was taken. Mrs Thorson bought a ocffee grinder before leaving Norway, which she used all her life here.

From Quebec, they moved to LaCrosse, Wisconsin. They lived there for a short time where they worked with a reaper that tied grain by hand and earned enough money to buy their first cow.

They moved from there to Olmstad, MN, near Rochester. There they bought a farm and built a house and later added a kitchen. Mr Thorson also built a new barn. There, two more daughters were born: Mrs Lindquist's mother, Laura and the other, Anna, Mrs Alfred Olson.

They continued living in Olmstad County a number of years. The two eldest daughters married and lived in Bray Township with their families. Later Mr and Mrs Thorson came to Bray Township.

Mrs Lindquist was born in Norden Twp 2 Oct 1887. At the age of 1 year, her father passed away and she came to Bray Twp to live with her paternal grandparents: Mr and Mrs Thorson. She became their foster daughter. Three years later, Mrs Lindquist's mother married Ed Seure. Elega married N.K. Anderson; Anna married Alfred Olson and Ingeborg married Gilbert Pederson.

Mr and Mrs Thorson and family were members of Landstad Church which was built in 1882. Mrs Thorson's funeral was held at the Landstad Church 17 Jan 1920. It was the last funeral held at that church.

Mrs Lindquist's sisters and brothers are:
Olga (Mrs John Rolland)
Clara (Mrs Ole Ihle)
Marie ( Mrs Carlson)
Emma Lindquist
Julia (Mrs Hoppe)
Oscar Lindquist
Henry Lindquist
Albert Sevre

---page 15-16 Pennington County, MN historical book

Thorson in Michigan

I am looking for information on my gg-grandparents, Otto and Mary Thorson. Otto immigrated to Michigan from Norway in 1880 (as stated on all census he was listed in). Mary stated she came any where from 1881-1884.

I know that at least one of their children were born in Norway, Charley/Charles. The dates of his immigration also vary, from 1881-1884. The family has no information at all on where they came, they didn't even know Mary's name.

The 1900 census lists their last name as "Ois", but it was changed to Thorson at some time. The children I know they had were: Charley/Charles, George, Anna and Alfred.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I will share information on my branch of the family!

My aunt, Rosalee (Pearson) Gray put together a Thorson Family Tree book about 20 years ago.
