Cloie Tibbetts, Rockland, Maine (1884)

I have no connection to either of these families. This appeared in the Jan. 1, 1884 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Courier-Gazette in the Men and Women column:

“We regret to learn that Miss Cloie M. Tibbetts is obliged to discontinue her school on account of serious trouble with her eyes. Miss Tibbetts has made a great success in teaching children, and parents who have had their little ones under her instruction will regret exceedingly the loss of her valuable instruction. It is to be hoped that the trouble with her eyes may not be of long duration.”

If descendants of Calvin, Louisa, John, and Grace are still looking to share information I'd like to connect you with my 80 year old father who's done substantial research but doesn't do email except through my mother (maiden name Tibbetts). I don't want to give his phone number here so please email me at smacdaddy@comcast.net to exchange contact information. One tidbit I will offer, because it came from my own research, is that Robert Shortress was the children's legal guardian after their parent's death and he gave them to Robert Caufield to raise. Both Roberts were Clatsop County judges, as was Calvin.

HELP! I'm ripping my hair out and want to cry. I thought I had found links to Harry Joseph Tibbetts father, and then I kept getting new links until I was at about 1500. I've come to learn that the parents I had linked Harry Joseph to are NOT his parents. I had Samuel Tibbetts and Elizabeth Westood as his parents. Can anyone please help me find the right parents? Harry Joseph was born in England, as were his parents. I have him listed on a USA census where I got that information, plus that he had immigrated in 1867. I haven't found ANYTHING before that. Please help me find my grandparents. :)

I've just posted some photos of Rose Flora Diantha (Tibbetts) Anderson (and also an old one of the Tibbetts family)on a site called Old Family Photos (http://www3.familyoldphotos.com/) that some might be interested in. Please also read the comments I've written below the photos as it provides the tiny bit of information I have. I am new to genealogical research but would love to talk to others who might know some history and can help fill in some gaps. My grandmother was Rose Flora Diantha (Tibbetts) Anderson. I believe she was married to Elmer Anderson and had a son, Maurice Anderson who would have been my mother's (Jeanette May Clarke's) half brother. The Tibbetts family Rose came from were descended also from the Fifield family I believe. Thanks all!

Hi! I am working on a visual family tree. I am missing a lot of information about my paternal side of the family.

We are from the Flint, Michigan area. I am not sure if we are an extension of the Tibbetts' from Maine.

Obviously, the surname is Tibbetts. The only information I can find is of my Great-Grandmother, Ruth Marion Tibbetts (she is a Tibbetts by marriage).

I find it rather interesting the use of Cromwell for a Tibbetts middle name. I have a John Bradford Tibbetts/Amy Wood whose second son was named Oliver Cromwell Tibbetts b. 1833 in Iroquois County, Illinois. John Tibbetts B. 1808, m. in Clermont Co.Ohio, Amy Wood 1829, next door to Dearborn County, Indiana where many Tibbetts came to from Maine with many other families. Suspect my John is related to them, but can't find the connection. I think there wasw also an Abner Tibbetts that also came to Dearborn County, Indiana. Would this be the SAME Abner that named one of his sons Cromwell for a middle name? Sure would like to know where the Cromwell connection comes in! Thanks Carolyn Can reach me at Carolyn@nnex.net

Are all of your family tree entries from back in the 1500s sourced, i.e., have your proved your tree members with written records? I would be interested in reading more on your tree. Is it posted online at Ancestry so that I/we could view it? I am a Tibbetts but realize our name was spelled all sorts of various ways throughout the centuries. I have seen a will of one of my line (it may have been Jeremiah back in the 1600s) in which his first and last name was spelled different ways within the same document. Henry, my immigrant from England in my tree, was spelled Henry Tybott in his (immigrant) ship's manifest, yet my last name is now spelled Tibbetts.
Thank you for your post, Souther!

I have no connection to this family. This appeared in the Jan. 9, 1894 issue of the Rockland (Maine)Gazette under the heading "Boy Drowned."

"BOY DROWNED. A Promising Camden Young Man Comes to an Untimely End. Wednesday afternoon while Walter and Orrin Tibbetts and Walter Wiley of Camden were duck shooting in a boat off Sherman's Point, the boat capsized and Walter Tibbetts, aged 17, was drowned. His brother Orrin and Walter Wiley clung to the boat for an hour and were rescued in an unconscious condition.

The body was recovered by a party of dredgers from the anchor factory, Sunday morning.

Coroner Mills called Undertaker J.B. Swan who examined the body and concluded that a formal inquest was unncessary. The body was taken to the office of J.B. Swan & Son, disinfected and prepared for burial, where funeral services were held Monday morning by the Rev. F.M. Preble."
