As far as I know, Ticer may be a derivative of Tessier which is French. Another possible spelling is Tysor. Augustine Ticer's (whom I am descended from) grandfather Lewis, came here from either France or Portugal with two other brothers during colonial times and settled in Virginia territory. The elder Lewis Tysor had three sons; Lewis, Alfred and another I don't know the name of. Lewis migrated to Chatham NC and Alfred to the West. The nameless one stayed in Virginia. My research indicates that Lewis Tysor (Ticer) Jr. is the father of Augustine in Chatham, NC.
My mother was a Ticer. She did a great deal of geneology. I can tell you that the Ticers' were huganouts and yes from Germany. They were being persecuted in Germany for their religion. They fled to France and eventually sailed with LaFeat. They jumped ship perhaps in North Carolina, I think. So, then the French Gov was looking for them. The three brothers changed their name to Ticer. Therefore, all Ticer's in this country decended from one of the three brothers. So, we are all related. My grandfather's name was Calvin Ticer. His daddy's name was Amos. I hope this has helped. I'll try to go through some of my mother's geneolgy and share more.

TICER SURNAME VARIANTS

Ancestry.com, Learning Center for name meanings states that Ticer is an American spelling of the German name Deuser, a German variant of the name Dietz which is a short form of Dietrich. Dietrich is cognate with the Dutch name Diederik or Dederick. The surname Dietz also has variants: Diets, Deats, Deatz, Deets, Deetz, ect.
I'm curious if any Ticer families have been found using the Tice / Theiss surname?
Other variants can be found as Theisser, Tycer , Tyser, Thyser, Thysser, Tysser, Dicer, Deiser, ect.
Hope this helps.
Angela Tice

My Laura's hand written notes also show a list of both the Ticer and Dowdy families & also the Augustine & Lucy children and another paper by her lists Lucy Dowdy as her grandmother and being born in June 1772. The children listed are:Rachel,Jane,Margaret,Uriah,Parsons,Allen.
Hello,
It has been several years since your post, so I don't expect to find you there any more but I also have hand written papers past through my family that have some of the same information as yours. I am descended from Lucy Dowdy and Augustine Ticer also although I have a missing link and haven't figured out exactly how yet. I do show Lucy's birth as June of 1772 and I have a hand written list of all of the Dowdy and Tice children as known by my relative Laura Ticer living with Lucy and Rachel in census of 1840 and 1850 in Cincinnati, Ohio (where Uriah was born) among other Ticer relatives. I have picture albums of them, but none of the pictures are named.
I have a tree on Ancestry.com called Ticers:Louise & Laura and my email address is: glwallingford@austin.rr.com

Hello all,
It has been a very long time from any of your posts, but if you are still researching and needing help on the Augustine Ticer family, so am I. I am somehow descended from them and I am having trouble finding the exact link. I have a very old hand written paper and an old type written one found in my maternal grandmother's deceased aunt's things at the time of her death. My grandmother always talked about her grandmother being a "Ticer". Turns out her grandmother was Louise Ticer born around 1849 and the paper belongs to Laura C. Ticer born around 1843 and talks about a quilt made by her grandmother (Lucy Dowdy Ticer)and Lucy's eldest daughter (Racel born 1801) and lists some dates, names and when they came to America and a whole list of the children. My problem is that my grandmother's aunt (Lena Ticer Castleman) who died in 1947 had no children and my mother and I are the only living links to that branch and I still have no idea how Louise and Laura are linked...cousins? I can't find anything on either one of them except a few census records for the years 1840 - 1910 which show their birth states. I also have an old photo album full of pictures of people in the 1800's (no names of course) but the photographer add on the back of the pictures say they were made in Cincinnati, Ohio and I know that Augustine and a brother moved there around 1890 where Uriah and some others were born. The writing about the quilt verifies this. I know we are not from Uriah, but which son? The census records for both women show their father's birthplace in Ohio! I know that Laura's parents must have died early because she is shown in th 1850 & 1860 Ohio census to be living with Lucy and Rachel and in the 1870 only Rachel because Lucy would have died. All three census spelled Ticer incorrectly. I know that Louise and Laura are both descended from Augustine and Lucy....but I can't find how. None of the other family trees have the records right enough to help. When I can scan the two documents from Laura's writings, I will attach here.

Re: Augustin Ticer / Dowdy census research ??

Search a book written by a Mr. Broughton, "The Tysors of Old Chatham". This book was available from his widow about ten years ago and he donated all of his research materials to the Public Library in Siler City, North Carolina.

I am not sure but I believe he was a son or grandson of Lewis Tysor (the younger). There may have been a question as to whether Lucy's last name was "Dowd" or Dowdy". The time frame here is 1770's to early 1800's. There were also some info about migrations to Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana territories. It has been a long time since I read the book, but you will find it of great interest. Good Luck!

Ken, I don't have any cencus material. However I do have some old papers marked "the Ticer and Dowdy's .On this is a list of all? the Ticer brothers and sisters . Augistine name was spelled with an E on the end. It has Andrew Voss Jeannie( not sure how it was spelled ) I would have to look it up. You might have all this. There are about 4 pages and they are filled with stuff. I would be glad to copy them and send them if you want. I will be out of town for a couple of days
I go thru Uriah Ticer=write if interested. I need more on Uriah and anything else we could share===Merla ==humbird@safelink.net

Lost Ticer

Seems the Ticer name is a bit difficult to trace. Keep finding either dead ends or nothing.

I have a lost Ticer. I know nothing about her parents or siblings.

Her name is Elizabeth Edna Ticer b. 8/19/1868 or something like that.
She married Wilson Allen Green in TX. and had 5 children...George Arthur, Ernest Bruce, Ellen Jewel, Myrtle Gay, Allen. She died when Myrtle Gay was only about 7, Allen was about 2, the oldest, George Arthur, was about 20.

George Arthur married Beulah Lindsey...divorced and married Lizzy Tucker. Ernest Bruce married Wilma Alma Coke. Ellen Jewel married Otho Hamilton. Myrtle Gay married Roy Irvin Boucher. Allen married Alma Prince.

The kids, most of them were so young when she died, all her family info died with her, for the most part. All I have is that she had some kinfolk in the Lubbock (?) area. And that she visited them for awhile with all kids in tow, shortly before she went back home (not sure where this was..somewhere east of Dallas) and soon thereafter died.

If someone has some info, please help me get unstuck in trying to trace back.

Thanks :)

Ticer/Tycer Family

I am searching for parents of Louisa A. Ticer who was b ca1822-3 in AL and married Hezekiah C. Rorie. They were in AR by 1850. They are my GGGGrandparents. One source in the Stone Co. Historical Society files lists her father as Meridy Ticer her mother as Mary "Polly" Wallis. I have found Meridy Ticer in the census living near Hezekiah Louisa so that is possible. I can find nothing further on Meridy. There have been several people do extensive research on the Rorie family but noone that I know of has found out anything on Louisa Ticer's family. My GGGrandfather was named Newton M. Rorie I have noticed that the "Newton" name continues to appear throughout the Rorie history, but only after Louisa's generation so I wonder if there is a connection to Newton Ticer? I would appreciate hearing from you in you think there is a connection. I will gladly share what info I have I do have extensive data on Louisa's descendants, if you would like that info. Please email me at quality1@ipa.net or mail 330 17th St., #16, Batesville, AR 72501, 870-698-1261. Thank you.
