Have nothing more, just census records and that they were born in Pennsylvaina and moved to Ohio. My Great-grandmother Abigail(Tidd)Johnson was Addison Tidd's sister.
Thank you for contacting me,
Evelyn

Tidd, who was married to Nettie Dorrough in 1895. If you will e-mail me at wasuda@hotmail.com, I would love to discuss the Tidds with you.
My great aunt, Pauline Tidd Ferguson was raised by my great great uncle Isaac Porter along with my grandmother (her sister) Hortense Tidd Porter, in Worth County Georgia.. There were other siblings & I only found one of them in Marietta, GA but he too has passed away & I can't seem to find any info on the family. To my knowledge, she only had one child & he passed away before his parents. I think her husband was in the military & after he retired they moved back to Worth county where they died. When my great grandparents died, all of the children were either put in foster homes or adopted. It is a possibility that ears checking into, because some of the children may have been taken out of the state by their foster parents & left in an orphanage.

Nettie Dorrough & Wiley Tidd are my great grandparents & I was told they were from the Columbus,GA area. Their daughter Hortense was my grandmother. I've been told that Nettie was in her 30's when she passed away & Wiley died not long after she did. Hortense & Pauline, were raised by my great great Uncle Isaac Porter. It is my understanding Wiley was a minister. I would appreciate anything you cam tell me. I did get to know one of the sons, Dorrough Tidd, who was adopted but can't remember his adopted name right off hand.. he lived in Marietta, GA. I would appreciate anything you can tell me.. I've been searching for some answers for years, but nobody seemed to know anything. I was just 6 yrs old when my grandmother passed away. I know there were a bunch of kids.. I always wondered why they were fostered & adopted out.

We believe her birth name was Pauline TIDD, born about 1916, who lived at Francis Comfort Orphanage in Columbus, Indiana, until adopted. She may have had siblings at that orphanage also.

Might any of this sound familiar?

Mary Tidd

Hello: I am looking for a Mary Tidd. She was supposedly born on December 26, 1773 in Pennsylvannia. She married a Jacob Pickenpaugh Sr. around 1795 in Greene County, PA. and died we believe on August 14, 1817 in PA. Greene County genealogical society has a record of her but no history on her family, her parents or where she is buried. She had several children and her husband moved to Noble County, Ohio (then Morgan County). I understand that there are many Tidds in adjoining Ohio County, West Virginia. Does anyone know anything about this woman's lineage?

This woman's maiden name was PAKEMAN, parents Christopher and Margaret. She married Humphrey Wise/Wyeth/etc 8 April 1616 in Nacton, Suffolk Co, England.

She married (as second wife)Samuel Greenfield about 1638 in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Greenfield arrived in the New World with a servant named John Tidd. No descendants have been found for this John Tidd nor is there any reason to think that Samuel's first wife was a Tidd. My grandmother died in 1958 in May and my grandfather died in December 1958. My grandmother's side of the family were McWhorton's. I don't know if this will help your or not but I hope so. I've been doing genealogy on my father's side of the family who were the Ross' from Ireland and then on into Sullivan County, MO.
Ron, I am trying to locate a current email or snail mail address for you. I am doing some work on this family for a young lady in PA who is one of your cousins.
William H. Tidd was born in 1844/1845, the son of John and Rebecca Tidd; he had several siblings, including, but not limited to: Clarissa (probably Gooden after marriage), Rephamy, Joseph and Sarah (this info is found in 1850). In 1860, William is found in 2 places in the Monroe Co OH census, 1st enumerated in the home of George Carothers and second, ennumerated in the homw of one William Tidd, age 74, born in NJ; also listed in this home is William's daughter, Sarah, age 44 born in Ohio, William H, age 14, born in Ohio and young Sarah, age 8, born in Ohio.

It is believed that our John is the son of William and Rebecca Tidd of NJ. We are in the process of trying to locate estate and or probate records for John and either Rebecca in Monroe Co OH, but haven't had any luck. We are also looking for Guardianship records for William, young Joseph or young Sarah.
John and Rebecca probably died between 1852 and 1860 so the time period is set out very well.

My friend Cynthia is descended from Martha Jane "Jennie" Tidd Butler, daughter of Sarah Melissa Cronin and William H. Butler. Her grandfather is James Edward Butler.

Would love to hear from you.
Martha's first child, William O., is born in 1885. She was married not long after the 1880 census.

There is another William who has a mother named Anna. He is 50 in 1880 and still living with his mother and a couple of sibs.

My guess and hope is that one of her brothers might list their parents in an obit or that her death certificate tell me her mother's full name. Since I can't find the family in 1880, makes it hard.

I haven't looked at John and Rebecca at all, besides seeing them in census records. As I get the chance, I am attempting to review most of the Tidds. In the meantime, I found another person here in Muskingum Co who is part of this Butler family, great granddaughter of Jasper. She is going to pull up her Tidd information and see what she has. If she has more or different or better, I will let you know.

Let's keep in touch ok?

I think that my William Tidd and yours are two different people. In the 1850 and 1870 Census Records my William Tidd born to Payton and Anna Tidd lived with them in Seal, Pike Co., Ohio. Your William Tidd was in Center, Monroe Co., Ohio. Same age.

Martha Jane Tidd's obituary ties your two Census Records of 1870 and 1900 together just by the siblings. Also, probably a second wife Sarah to William only had 3 children and 3 living in the 1900 Census Records. That would be Charley, Charm and Frank. Martha is not in this one.the 1900 Census Records. She was married about 1894. There is her brothers Harry and Samuel to account for also. Martha's mother, if there are two wives, is probably the Sarah Melissa Cronin that first married him. It fits but then what. I have Martha as being born in about 1868 or 1869. That would be about what her obituary says, right. Anyway, I don'thing this is my William.

The Center William's parents are named John and Rebecca Tidd.
What are your thoughts on this?
Evelyn

Hi,
You have aquired a lot of really good information on this family and I have to go along with you on it.
I do think there may be a relationship between the 1870 and the 1900 William and Sarah Tidd, only because of the childrens names and that is a big question. I think that you may be right about there being two Sarahs.
My William is the brother of my ggrandmother, Abigail Tidd. Her parents are Peyton and Anna Tidd. I have found little on William. I aquired my information that he had a daughter named Martha Jane from another person on Ancestry. I have emailed another person on this William. She has thousands of Tidds on her data base. I would like to know what she thinks about it. You have found your William from a different angle and we may have two diffent Williams. I do think all of your information is probably pretty much right on. I do not have a date of death for my William Tidd. His mother's name is Anna, so the military record could be for my William. Does anyone out there have any information on this matter?
I will let you know if I find any other information.
thank you and let me know if you come up with anything else.
Evelyn

Born in 1863 would make her 6 or 7, not 1.

Second, in order for his mother to get his pension, wouldn't William have had to be deceased? Since he is alive in 1900, I seriously doubt that the one in 1900 is the son of Harriet Anna and Peyton Tidd. Unless the soldier is deceased, the only person who can claim his pension is him.

third, the age descrepancy between Sarah and Sarah Melissa leads me to believe that this is either two families or, more likely, that the first wife died and he married Sarah Martin later, which would make Harry a step-son to the second Sarah.

I found a marriage record for William and Sarah Martin, dated 7/4/1892, but nothing about his first marriage.

The first wife is Sarah Melissa Cronin, married to Wm 7/3/1867. . .So maybe they did have Martha's age wrong. I will have to find her death certificate and double check it for the date it lists - and her parents. It is also possible that William and the first sarah weren't wed til a few years after their children were born.

I can't find them in 1880. . .what a mess! Oh well, the more excitment, the better. At least I have the parents for Martha Jane. You have been a help.

AS for her name, Jenny was not an uncommon nickname for Jane, Jeanette and Jean. . . I have seen it over and over again. Nothing agains the name Martha, but when I see it I automatically picture a matronly woman with her white hair piled on her head. I wouldn't want to be called Martha and going by Jane or Jenny would make me feel years younger :)

I have two Census Records for William and Sarah Tidd:

June 02, 1870 Woodsfield, Monroe Co., Ohio
Roll 593_1245, Page 49, Image 99
William, age 23, Farm Laborer, b. Ohio
Sarah Melissa, age 21, Keeping House, b. Ohio
Martha Jane, age 1, b. Ohio

June 04, 1900 Center, Monroe Co., Ohio
Roll T623_1305, Page 3A, Enumeration District 91.
Wiliam, age 55, b. April 1845, Ohio no occupation listed
Sarah, age 37. b. Feb. 1863, Ohio
Charley, age 7, b. Mar 1893, Ohio
Charner (?), age 6, b. July 1894(?), Ohio
Frank, age 4, b. April 1896, Ohio
Harry Tidd, age 19, Oct. 1880, Ohio says, stepson, or ?
Also living with them is:
Rebecka Martin, age 59, b. 1840, Ohio, Mother
Mary Martin, age 27, b. Oct. 1872, Ohio Sister
There is a big age difference with this William and Sarah but the Census Records aren't always correct.

Also:
Mother, Anna Tidd, Filed for pension benefits from her son Wililam Tidd on June 09, 1890 from the Military in Nebraska. Application No. 568.098

If this is my William Tidd and also Martha Jenny (I have Marth Jenny)then HIS parents are Peyton Tidd and Harriet Anna Price. I have information on them if you want it. I can email it to you if you think this is correct.

Martha Jane is not in the 1900 Census Records with this second family but then she could have been married by then.

Evelyn

Maybe this will help. . . .

Individual:
Zanesville Times Recorder, October 14, 1920
MRS. JAMES BUTLER IS CALLED BY DEATH
Mrs. Martha Jenny Butler, 53, wife of James Butler, died of a complication of diseases at 5:45 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at her home on Tenth street. Besides her husband, she is survived by seven sons, William, Jasper, Charles, James, Howard, Arthur, and Louis Butler, and a daughter, Mrs. Rosie Rummage. Four brothers, Samuel, Charm, Frank and Harry Tidd, and a sister, Mrs. Florence Gibson, also survive. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, the Rev. Mr. Wayt officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

If you do happen to locate her with her parents, I would be thrilled if you would let me know who they are.

I also have James Henry's obit

Very good that you found his obit. You can find so much information from one. Actually I am researching the Tidd family and noticed Martha Jane Tidd's name. I have questions about who her parents are, so that is what caught my attention. Thank you for your fast reply. Evelyn

you would be right about his dob. . .Oct 1899. . . found in 1900 census, but his obit confirms this info too.

Zanesville Signal, April 27, 1936
JAMES E. BUTLER FUNERAL MONDAY
Succumbs Friday Morning at Brother's Home
The funeral of James E. Butler, 35 years old, will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Mader-Peoples funeral home. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Butler died Friday morning at the home of a brother, William Butler, 856 Turner Street, following a lingering illness of tuberculosis.
Surviving are four other brothers, Jasper, Charles, and Howard of this city, and Arthur of Georgia; a sister, Mrs. Rosie Rammage, Zanesville, and two daughters, Catherine and Martha Butler, also of this city.
The body will rest at the Mader-Peoples funeral home until time of services.

Are you a Butler? I am looking for information about this family for a friend. She is James Edward's granddaughter. Her mother and Aunt, Catherine and Martha, never knew about him and do not know any of their Butler family.

I know that Howard married Carrie Knapp and they had at least one child, Clara Mabel Butler, but couldn't find anything for Arthur or Louis. I know a little about Rosie and Lillie was alive and married to a Stewart in PA.

You probably have what I have on James Edward Butler.
Military: James Butler registered for the World War I Draft.
He stated that he was born June 18, 1894. He was living in Zanesville, Ohio. He worked for the Zanesville Art Pottery Co. as a laborer. He was single. He was tall and slender, with blue eyes and dark hair. Roll 1851478
Also Military: Enlisted in the National Army on June 01, 1918,in Zanesville,Ohio. Stated that he lived on Sharon Avenue in Zanesville. Born June 18, 1894. Assigns Comment:
156 Brigade to 27 June 1918; Co. G 322 Infantry to 26 Aug 1918; then, Co. B 166 Infantry to Discharge Private St. Mihiel; Meuse-Argonne; Defense Sector, American Expeditionary Forces 31 July 1918 to 25 April 1919. Honorable Discharge 17 May 1919.
BUT I found another military rgistration for the World War I Draft. This one states that his name is James Edward Butler, living on Elm St. in Zanesville, Ohio. Born October 05, 1899. He is a laborer in a Brick Co. in Zanesville, Ohio. He is living at the same address and Martha J. Butler.(his mother) He is tall and slender with blue eyes and dark hair. Roll 1851478. Draft Board 0.
I noticed that you have your James Edward as being born in 1895 but I think he was born in 1899 according to the draft records that the men themselves sign. I also noticed that they both have the same Roll registration number, so I don't know what is going on here. In the 1910 Census Records his parents, James is 47, Martha J. is 44, Charles E. is 15, James E. is 11, Howard is 8, and Arther is 3. Everyone being born in Ohio. Martha had 8 living children with 4 still at home. He was a farmer and they had been married for 26 years. Roll T624_1221, Page 9B, E.D. 69, Image 339. This James was born in 1899.
You may already have all of this information but I was looking for Martha Jane Tidd when I noticed yours. I have a Martha Jane Tidd born to William and Sarah Tidd, born in Center, Ohio in 1869. William was the son of Peyton Tidd and Harriet Anna Price. I have my doubts about Martha being the daughter of my William and Sarah. I am have the wrong William and Sarah Tidd. There is another William and Sarah about the same age.
Well, I hope that this info doesn't confuse you to much and helps some. If you have any info on Martha I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Evelyn

I am very much interested in getting some vintage photographs of descendants of Moses Tidd, he was my ggg Grandfather. He was born in Virginia in 1772 and died in Seal, Pike Co.,Ohio after 1850. He was married to my ggg Grandmother Catherine Cockrell. I have a few Tidd photos and would very much like to add to my collection. They don't have to be present day descendants. Any of his children, grandchidren or great grand chidren would be wonderful. Please contact me if you would be willing to send me some via email.
Thank you,
Evelyn sew4emh@aol.com
