I remember the name Sumsion growing up in Bath. Someone I went to school with. Most likely it was someone I went to school with. I left school in 1968- Westhill Boys School. I know very little about my family, especially far back in Colerne. There's a photograph of a James Tiley in the book Village on the Hill.

OOps! Got it wrong, my grandfather was Henry Tiley. He's mentioned in the book The Village On the Hill: Aspects of Colerne History. My mother's mother was Ida Mae Tiley. That's all I know. I grew up in Bath and now live in Chicago.

This Tiley family seemed to have moved away from Colerne after 1910 (last birth for son James), who married Ada Evans. James sr died in 1922. Jane Sumsion is my g grandfathers cousin.
Elizabeth Tiley (according to 1871 Census born IOW) married Job Bull 1809 and her brother William settled in Stockbridge with his portion of Job's will some when after 1845. I'm looking for their ages etc. William and Job were both chimney sweeps.

Have another strange reference to a Tiley, but no apparant connection - Stephen Tiley Kircher - a descendant of another branch of Bull's but no apparant connection to Tileys. He was born Popham 1792

My Grand Father was Riley Houchins (Richlands Va). He had a son named Columbus (my Uncle, died a few years ago). But, I think you are further back to Riley's father Columbus. They tend to pass the names down, but I thought they came from Beckley WV. If you are still on-line, I like to know more.

I am still working on my mothers family and keep running into three names.

I have a Naturalization dated 8 Sept 1854 for William Tiley, Sr. from Somersetshire, near Bath, England and one dated 4 Sept 1854 for George Tiley from Romany, Glamorganshire (I think that is how it is spelled) South Wales. There is also 3 wills: William Tiley Sr. dated 1865; William Tiley, Jr. dated 1884 and a John Tiley, no date. I posted an obit for a William Tiley prior to this. The Naturalizations and wills are located in Cambria Co., PA, that is why I feel these people are connected to my family. If anyone has any info on these people please let me know..

Tiley corrections

I have started using Jade instead of my middle name Leann so the posts from Jade starre are also from Leann Reed(divorce). I was incorrect about the name of my Ggrandfather being William it was actually Edwin Louis Tiley and my grandfather was Edwin William Tiley. My ggpa died in Salt lake city in 1948 as near as I can tell this is the correct man. My ggma Signa Tiley was divorced from him but there are no records online that I can find after the 1930 census records for Chicago, IL. The children of Signa and Edwin L. were Robert, Warren, Edwin W., Lorene, and Emily. Emily became Emily Fohner, Lorene Hoover...Edwin W. married Wanita Blanche Bowen. They had 5 children as well.If anyone has any kind of info on this family please let me know.

In my earlier posts I was incorrect about the name of my great grandfather. His name was NOT William but Edwin Louis Tiley and he married Signa Bijowig (beerwick) in 1914. Where I'm not sure I have found his WW1 draft card and his death in 1948 in Utah. My gr. Grandma is listed as head of house hold in two census charts from 1930 one lists her as Tilley with 2 girls Lourene and Emilia, and divorced. The other lists the girls and the three boys Robert, Warren and Edwin, and lists her as married. I know at some point Signa had a breakdown of some sort and had to put the kids in an orphanage but she got better and they came home. This was all in Cleveland, Ohio. I would like to find more info on Edwin Louis Tiley and Signa Tiley if anyone has it. Thanks Please reply to jadestarre@msn.com

Sjt Cecil Tiley, of Maidstone in Kent, died in World War 1

Cecil Tiley, born in 1897, was the son of James Tiley (from Bradford Upon Avon in Wiltshire).

The family moved to Maidstone in Kent, where many were working in a local paper mill.

Does anyone have more information on the Maidstone Branch of the family. I believe some of them emigrated to Australia and Canada....??

Cecil Tiley was only 20 when he died, at the end of the battle of the Somme. He was remembered by the Great War Forum on the 87th anniversary of his death on the 5th December 1916. You can see more about this young soldier at the following web address: http://www.1914-1918.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=6968&...=
