looking to learn more about John Columbus Tilly (1823-1864) born in TN, died in Ark

I am looking to learn more about the Tilly's. So far I have got my line back to John Columbus Tilly, born in TN in 1823- died in Ark in 1864. He was married to Nancy Bratton (1829-1920). I believe his parents are Henry Tilly (1798-1847) and Mary Rose (1801-1850), but not sure. But this is as far back as I have got my Tilly line. Please reply with any information that could help me go farther back in time!
Thanks!

Marx Tilly, born May 1889 WI, son of Louis Tilly/Christine Schneider, of Brown Co., WI

I have an original Cabinet Card wedding photograph of “Marx Tilly and Anna Kuchenbecker – he was her first husband”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was Wayside (Brown Co.) WI, and each looks to be about mid-20s.

I found Marx Tilly in the 1900 census for Morrison (Brown Co.) WI, showing birthdate May 1889, and he lived with his grandparents Marx and Christina Schneider/Snyder, age 71, and his aunt Abbie Schneider/Snyder. WWI Draft Registration shows his birthdate 10 May 1889, born DePere (Brown Co.) WI. He had a wife, but no name is given. Ancestry Public Member Tree shows that Marx’s parents were Louis Tilly (who died in 1894) and Christine Schneider (died in 1892), so at age five, his parents had both died. 1920 Brown Co. census shows Marx Tille (30), with wife Anna (31).

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Marx Tilly or Anna Kuchenbecker.

Tilly/Duggins connection in Stokes, NC

Has anyone run across a Harrison Duggins (b. Aug 1, 1836) during their Tilly research and how he might be related? I have a handwritten Bible (can't be sure if it really is from a Bible) transcription (not very complete) that mentions two Tillys, 3 Nulls (one an Arrena) and Harrison Duggins' birthdate at the end. Don't know where the original Bible is. I've discovered they all lived near each other in 1860 in Stokes Co, NC. The name "Arrena/Arena" (female) is very prevalent in this Tilly line. I'm curious how Harrison Duggins is related - he is my ggg-grandfather.

I have his Service record. It states his DoB as 13 August 1838 in Brighton.

He joined the Navy at St Vincent (I guess in Forton Road, Gosport) on 23 May 1859 as a "carpenter". He was 5ft 11 1/2 in - a tall man for those days.

He progressed to be a "shipwright"

He was invalided out of the Navy on 3 June 1869 in China! His conduct was "very good" throughout.

Sorry no record of parents.

Best wishes

Hi there, I have just discovered a Jabez Tilly in my tree! He married my ggg grandfathers' sister, Mary Rhoda Hartnup nee Waterman born in Brenchley, 1841. Mary was married 1st to William Hartnup, who died leaving her with one daughter, Elizabeth, and then married Jabez Tilly in Dec quarter 1869. They lived in Alvestoke, I expect you've found them in the 1881 census.
Mary was daughter of Rhoda Vine (b.Brighton 1815-d.Alvestoke ) and John Waterman (b.Brenchley 1802-d.1876).

Does anyone out there have Jabez Tilly in their tree? He was my great great grandpa and was born in Brighton, UK, in 1841. He married a Mary (surname unknown). I do know that he was a joiner in the Royal Navy at some point.
I would like to find out who his parents were, or the surname/parents of his wife Mary. They had a lot of children (most of whom died young) including my great grandma, Hilda Beatrice.
Regards
Frances Proud

To Lynn Stewart
You mentioned Aaron Tilley, who was a brother to your gr-grandfather Harvey Tilley. Actually, the two were part of a family of 12 children. Harvey Tilley was the oldest child of Aron Martin Van Buren Tilly (b. 1843, according to my father, who was the youngest child). With his first wife, Mary, he had Harvey and Eva (Called Evy). With his second wife, Annie Elizabeth, he had Aaron Louis, Luetta, William, a pair of twins who may have died at birth, Gary, Eleve, and Ray.
This only adds up to10. There was also a sister-in-law named Syntha Tucker who would have been 3 years older than Harvey. And a boy named James, who would have been the same age as Harvey...possibly, indeed, it WAS Harvey, as James could have been his middle name...Sometimes they seemed to use one name, and sometimes another, judging by the census records.
My father, Ray, who was an orphan, was sent to live with his half-brother Harvey on a farm on the Mississippi River bottoms when he was 10 (1905), and stayed there working for him for the next 3 1/2 years. For part of that time, a nephew of Harvey's wife was also living there, as well as whatever children they may have had. I think living was very difficult for people at that time and place...a marginal existence.

How little we know of what life was really like for our ancestors! Hope this information will be of some help to you...

They had two children, Harold William bn. 1903 and Ruth Francis bn.1905 (my grandmother, who would be your 1st cousin?). At some point they were divorced. I believe Aron may have married again. I don't really know anything else about him except that I was told he was a fiddler. I would love to learn more. Thanks. Please feel free to email me.

Aron Martin Van Buren Tilly (My Grandfather) was born in 1843 in South Carolina. His father, Aron V. Tilly was born in Cork, Ireland, in 1803. I have no information on Aaron Martin Van BurenTilly's wife, but presume her to be of Cherokee origin.
He married 2 times that I know of...First to Mary (last name unknown), and then to Annie Elizabeth Tucker [My Grandmother). Annie Elizabeth was born in Roodhouse, Ill, in Green County , 1849. Her father was Gary Tucker (who was a well-known fiddle player), but I have no information on her mother. Her father's line goes back to family names of Chapman and Roby.
There are more children than you have listed. Under the first wife he had Harvey and Evy (and maybe more.] Under the second wife he had Eddy, Bill, Louetta, Aaron Lewis, a pair of twins who died, Gary, Cleve, and Ray (who was my father).
My father was the last child, born Sept 20, 1895. Annie Elizabeth, his mother, died Nov. 8,1899, in Pleasant Hill, Illinois. His father Aron died April 26, 1905, probably in St Louis. It was a hard life for a child.
You mentioned a child named James. This boy does not appear in my family records, though perhaps he might have been one of the twins. If so, he would have died before my father was born.
According to Dad, his father was a professional fisherman, and my Dad loved to fish, though never for a living. As for his mother, he remembers her as having long black hair.
I knew your great-grandfather,Aaron, and loved him very much. He was a fiddler, like his grandfather, and used to play at country dances in Bowling Green, Missouri. He also used to go rabbit and squirrel hunting when we came for a visit. They had an old pump organ in the parlor, and his fiddle was always hung on a peg in the living room for easy access.

She was married to William Juenke from Prussia.
That marriage spawned a large line of:
Kraus
Wahrmund
Lange
and many more in Texas.

I would appreciate any info on any of the ancestors of Henriette Tille as well as any of the other surnames mentioned.
My email is bertkraus@prodigy.net
I live in Laredo, Tx
