Re: Stephen Timmons

Wow, small world! Hello, my name is John C. Smith. S.S. Timmons is my 4X great-grandfather. My branch is: Stephen-Andrew-Arthur(A.C.)-Marie-Harold(H.D.)-David-myself. We (Smith's) farm in Young Hickory township in Fulton County, just a couple of miles from where Stephen bought his first farm in 1855 from Shreave. That first farm is still in the family! Owned by Galen Timmons(my 3rd cousin).

I've known bits and pieces about the Timmons family, and have just recently started researching the family tree in more depth. Sad to report that an old barn on a Timmons farm had just burned to the ground last week. I later found out my 2X great-grandfather A.C. had built that barn for Duane.

I too would enjoy getting/trading some family information!

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/k/i/n/Barbara-L-K...

please visit the above link if you haven't already done so.

John

Re: John Timmons Greene County, Tennessee

Hi Lynda,
The records I found for John Timmons are on microfilm at the Tennessee State Library and Archives here in Nashville. The first mention of John was at the April Session of Court in 1804 serving on a jury. I find mention of John in various court records from this date until 1814. (the John I found in 1816 turned out to be John Simmons) I have never been able to find any other identifying information on this John Timmons, such as wife, children, etc. Of course, from the fact that he was serving on a jury in 1804, he know he was at least 21 years old. My interest in this John comes from the fact that William Timmins married in Greene County in 1807 and was also called as a witness during a trial in 1805. In 1805, William was referred to as a minor. We know his brothers were in nearby Hawkins County in 1809 but I have found no record of them in Greene County. We DO NOT know their parents, either or where they came from. Just recently, I have a John Timmons age 50-60 on the 1830 Jefferson County, TN census. By 1840, John is found in Lincoln County, TN where 3 of our brothers were living. by 1850, he is in Itawamba County, MS age 80, born in Maryland. At this point, I can only "assume" this John is or at least he could be the same John as found in Greene County. I have a little bit more on him and possible sons, if you are interested. I am interested to know more about your Thomas Timmons and his wife, Julia. What are their birth dates and in what TN counties do you find them? We are researching a Timmins family consisting of 4 brothers who just show up in TN by 1805. The John of the MS census is too young to the father of our brothers, but if he is the John found in early Greene County, he could be a relative to the brothers. Please feel free to E-mail me at scooper@heritageresearcher.com.
Sue Cooper
Nashville, TN

Hi, Sue.
Can you tell me what records you have and how you found them regarding John Timmons in Greene Co., TN in 1804-1816.
Were they on Ancestry.com? I can't find them.
I'm researching my gggrandparents, Thomas Timmons and Julia Burket/Burkett/Burkitt. I've researched for years now and haven't had any luck finding parents. I've seen other notes saying that Thomas' father was named John and came from Pennsylvania but I can't find contact info for the lady that posted it, Kay Turpin Johns.
Thanks,
Lynda TIMMONS Elvington
Crowley, Texas

I have received information which indicates that George Washington FORD, the son of Ralph Ford and Elizabeth COFFEY, was born on January 10, 1789 at Oldsfield Point, Cecil Co., MD. I would like to know where Oldsfield Point is located in Cecil Co. and if there are any records, church or civil, in existance for that area which I could review to see if GW Ford was indeed born in that community and was the son of the above couple. The original source for my data no longer has a good e-mail address, but must have been able to acquire that specific a piece of information from somewhere. I need to locate it if at all possible. Thank you anyone for your help.

John Burton Timmons

I am looking for any information on the above named individual. This man is my 3rd great grandfather. And like many of the past posts I have read on this board I am at a dead end.

Census records have him born anywhere from 1810 to 1817 mostly in Delaware, but 1850 lists POB as D.C. I think possibly he married in Ohio to an Eliza, and had 7 children-William, Elisha, (my 2nd great grandfather), Polly, Amanda, Irvin, Thomas and Elizabeth. In 1850 & 1860 his wife is shown as Eliza. In 1870, as Elisabeth, about 15 yrs younger than in 1860. In 1880 his wife is Mary Ellen Williams. After John B. died in 1891, his wife Mary Ellen who was 18 in 1880, married his grandson, Benjamin Lucius Timmons in Pike Co., IL in Nov. 1894. Benjamin was the son of Elisha and Eunice Mary Johnson.

I am looking for any sort of lead as to who John Burton Timmons parents might have been. I found a date of marriage of a John B. Timmons and Eliza Tanier in Pickaway Co., OH for 19 Feb 1837 but that's a little late for the firstborn William, whose DOB is abt. 1834. All of John B. and Eliza Timmons children were born in OH except for Thomas and Elizabeth, who were born in IL.

If any of this sounds like something you may have run across I would surely appreciate any help on this man's parentage. I have exhausted every place I can think of to look.

Thanks!
Sarah Francis in NETX

I'm looking for information on Martha Missouri Timmons, born in Union County, Ohio in 1858. She married Charles O.S. Lash in Union Co. She died in 1918 in Union County. Her parents were named as John Timmons and Elizabeth Jones on her death record, but I am unable to find any census records, etc. for them. Her first appearance in the census records is 1880, after she married.

No one knows who the parents are. Abraham came from the Worcester County, Area, although he was also found on a Sussex County, Delaware census before he moved to Ohio. So any of those Timmons from those areas could be his parents.
It is not Nehemiah Timmons and Thamar as so many people insist on putting in their trees

That is incorrect. Abraham born in 1764 would have been the oldest and would have been named the administator of Nehemiah's will. He would have still been in Maryland when Nehemiah died, so he should have been named as Administrator. The only children I have found is Abijah, who was the oldest and the administrator, Nehemiah, Jr. who was the youngest (born 1784) Caleb Timmons and possibly Rhoda Timmons

I am just finding that it looks as though Levi K Timmons b. 1832 mar. Mary A Crow b 1842 they are on the 1870 Polk Georgia census living near Mary's parents William and Dedama Crow. It seems they moved to AR and are next found on the 1880 Black River, Independence, AR, USA Census. I cannot find any other information right now. The children's names make it look like this is correct. Mary's siblings and other relatives also removed to Indian territory, so it looks like this may be correct. If anyone can assist with this please e-mail me at sbfloral@aol.com directly.

Ken,

I am in the process of researching my family tree and have found that my grandmother was a Timmons - her name was Abigail and she was married to my grandfather Patrick J. Burns. Joshua was her brother and Alexander and Ellen were her parents. We are trying to confirm this as my father has the copy of a will from Alexander Timmons but his birth certificate lists his mother as Abbie Simmonds. Trying to sort this out. Coming to Nova Scotia in September and plan on spending a few days in my genealogy research. Any pointers would be most appreciated!

Mary Timmons daughter of Aaron W Timmons and Martha J Carey is what I have in my tree, which goes back further. If you give me your email address through ancestry, I'll send you an invitation to that tree. It is a search tree, much taken from other trees and census records, other sources needed. Seth Ayres Hudson is brother of my great grandfather Isaac Albert Hudson. Molly Timmons would have been his sister-in-law. My mother Rosa Hudson mentioned them often, but I don't recall any stories right now. Beth

Does anyone have a copy of the Seth Ayres Bible? Also, revised parents of Elizabeth Morris-- now accepted as Issac Morris and Mary, as found on Elizabeth's death certificate DEC 31 1918. Elizabeth Morris did go west with a group from the area, and some came back to Sussex DE, including Elizabeth, who died at her daughter's home in Selbyville. Do you have any stories of going west to share?

According to Mary Knight, Bassett Jr was born 19 Sept 1837, and your Bassett Was botn in 1840. Did he have Myers on the Tombstone? It could be an error on the census. But if he was listed on the Tombstone as Myers, he could have been adopted by his step-father. He may have adopted them all the minors, but the others may have chosen to keep the Timmons name

I am descended from a man named Bassett A. Myers, who I believe you have listed here as Bassett Timmons, Jr. According to his gravestone and census records, my Bassett was born Sept. 19, 1840. I thought he was the son of George Myers, who he is listed as living with in the 1850 census of Dist. 5, Benton Co., Indiana. However, after reviewing your information and the biography of Joshua Johnson Timmons (listed on Newton Co., IN, USGenWeb page), I believe he is the posthumously-born son of Bassett Timmons senior. According the JJ Timmons bio, Sarah Johnston Timmons didn't marry George Myers until 1847. Any thoughts on why Bassett took the name Myers, or am I even connecting my Bassett to the right family? I have information about the Bassett Myers family if you'd like anything.

Harry Timmons (b 10 Dec 1880- 10 Feb 1912) father was Charles Timmons who was a contractor in South Amboy, NJ, in 1912.

Harry married Mary Ellen Martin around 1906, and died at 31 from falling off a building he was working on. He left 3 daughters, and Mary Ellen.

He lived in South Amboy, NJ, and so did his father. Harry lived in Oak Shades (now Keyport, NJ) at the time of his death.

If anyone knows anymore info about them, including where in Ireland they were from, please let me know. There is a Charles Timmons listed in the 1880 census in S. Amboy, NJ, but I don't know if this is the right one.

Patty
