Hi Jill -don't know if you remember me, but we did make a bit of contact 4 years ago. I am back researching the family tree...I am descended also from Thomas and Hannah's son William who came to Canada via USA sometime in the 1860's or early 1870's. Just wondering if you are familiar with the Simmonds part of the family there in Tachbrook area. I have a letter of correspondence from a Fanny Morgan which I found in my grandfather's effects.
Happy to share what I have for the Canadian side of the Timms family.
Take care, Steph Savage, email is Louisat@aol.com or through ancestry.ca
(old i.d. was S. Elliott)

Hello!
My name is Davis Perkins, and I believe we are related! My Great Grandfather was Major Harvey Timms. His daughter Gurtrude, married my Grandfather George Jefferson Perkins. Grandpa Perkins was a well established attorney with a practice in Portland OR, and lived on a farm in Troutdale OR (where my family lived after his death). His Father Benjamin Perkins, was a Lieutenant with the 1st Alabama Regt, and I remember stories of how the two units (65th Illinois and 1st Alabama),fought in 3 separate battles during the war. lt. Perkins was severely wounded during the Battle of Peachtree Creek, outside Atlanta in 1864. He had also been captured twice by Union forces (Island #10, and the Battle of Port Hudson). Fascinating History!!

Obviously I would love to hear from you! I just joined a free trial of Ancestors.com, and thought I'd give it a go. I noticed your posting right off. A quick summary of me. I'm a retired firefighter/paramedic. Former smokejumper. I keep my paramedic license current, and have just returned from Haiti with a medical team. I'm also a professional artist. If you get a moment, please visit my website. It's: www.davisperkins.com

My address: 17 Upper Fremont Drive, San Rafael, CA 94901. My email: davisperkins@earthlink.net
phone: (415) 519-3125

Again, I very much hope to hear from you!

Best regards,

Davis
I have had others check and they have not had a problem.
Hi Janice
It might be easier if you go to http://www.timms.ca and follow the links to my genealogy, rather than having me explain it here. In a nutshell, if one can trace the line back to the area around Cherington, Stourton, and Whichford in Warwickshire, then there could well be a connection; if not, probably not.
Roger

Sorry Janice. I was in nar-nar-land and didn't notice that it was Rodger who you were asking about connections.

To fill you in a bit more on Edward Matthew Timms: Birth #6384 (1865) Ballarat, Marr #437 (1891), Death #12168 (1930) Ararat. All registrations Victorian. Died aged 65. s/o John Harris Timms & Margaret Matthews. Occ: Bricklayer.

For Artheur Septimus I have the following information: Birth #15892 (Vic), Marr #13188 (Vic). Enlisted in the Australian Army 8/1/1942 (in WA), Serv No. W22016. NOK Nellie. Worked for the Shell Oil Co. Ashes interred Karrakatta Cemetery, Perth WA (EC Section, Garden of Remembrance, 26, 35). I can't confirm the death as the online index ends in 1966, but his burial (Ashes) record can be found at http://www.mcb.wa.gov.au/NameSearch/details.php?id=KC0006393... It says ne died in the suburb of Wembley.

I just found Nellie's burial (or cremation). She died 30 May 1996 in the suburb or Bayswater (WA), aged 97. Looks like her ashes were placed with Arhtur.

Hi Janice,

It can become very expensive researching your ancestors. Luckily I hve found some good people along the way to work with and share documents. So far I have 97 copies of records up on my Tribal tree to back up my research. One goes back to a 1570 Will in Guernsey and another to a 1697 proberty deal for the Fruen family in Wiltshire. Worst luck it is in Latin and I can't read it.

If you send me your email address I can send you an invitation to my Tribalpages tree and you can look at the records. I have BDM records for the Fruen line right back to the marriage of Henricus Fruen to Honora Harding on 13 Jul 1693. I notice that most people haven't managed to get past John Fruen (Frewin on marriage) and Mary Wilkens/Wilkence (Wilkins on marriage) The Fruen line is Henry John Conduit's mother Emma Fruen's line. Her father's Will is on record, but as of middle of last year it hadn't been digitised. Will try againg for it this year.

I find Ancestry.com over priced for what you get. I used it for about 6 months as a paid member but I don't think it was really worth the money. Too focused on the USA. I use Genes Reunited for access to the census now and Findmypast UK has a lot of records. I have trees on both Tribal and Genes as well as the very out of date one on Ancestry. When I have finished entering my Channel Island ancestors onto Tribal (about a years work left) I will put it up on Ancestry and open it to public view.

Out of interest would one of these men be your husband's father? William Reginald 1911-1993, Ronald Cecil 1917-1983, Allan James 1916 or David Edwin 1918. From Walter James 1894-1895 to Margaret Hilda 1903-1903 I don't have any descendents. Some of the men born between then lived to the mid to late 1900s and your husband may have descended from one of them, but I don't know who their children were.

I have been in contact with a few descendents of Selina and Edward. Who is the person your husband is working with? I may know them.

Anyway, if you send me your email address I can send you an invitation to my tree on Tribal.

Cheers,
Diane

Hi again.
I use ancestry to research. Unfortunately it is not always accurate. I might have typed in the wrong thing in. My husband is also in touch with someone who is researching the tree who has provided us with info. Not the most accurate way to do it but unfortunately it is the way we have to do it for the moment.

Back again. I just noticed that you have the death year of Hney John Conduit as 1967. Henry died somewhere in Adelaide on 23 Nov 1928 under the name of John Henry Conduit. The only Conduit to die in Victoria in 1967 was Alford Kirkland Conduit, 1899 (#23580), s/o Tom Conduit and Hannah Bendle. Death #19940.
Cheers,
Diane
P.S. I forgot to mention before that I don't use Ancestry for my records in Australia. I use the Victorian BDM index discs (more accurate than Ancestry) and for my direct line I have copies of all the original records. I think I have copies of all the census records for England and I am working on getting birth or baptism records, marriages and deaths. Sarah Emma Alford's baptism is the next one I want to get and hopefully her parents, Abel Alford and Sarah Dyer's, records.

Hi Janice,

Nice to hear from you. I actually descend from Henry and Sarah's son William Henry 1869-1937, but I also have a copy of the birth record or Henry John jnr (aka John Henry) 1860-1928. I only recently spotted under 'Previous Issue' that it states Henry and Sarah had a boy and a girl both living and a boy dead. The girl would have been Sarah Emma jnr, but who were the 2 boys? There is no mention of them on William's birth record. The living boy must have also died, but when and where? I would love to see a copy of Selina Jane's birth record if you have one (#6631) to see if there is any mention of these first 2 boys born before Henry John jnr.

I was interested to see you say that the first 3 where born in Port Fairy (Dublin). I don't know where you got Dublin from as it has nothing to do with their birthplace. They were born in Port Fairy, Victoria, Australia, which at the time was called Belfast. I have found a few people that thought they were born in Belfast, Ireland.

Be very careful of the information that you get from Ancestry trees. I have a working tree up there that is full of errors. I had to close it to public view when I found that people were copying it word for word without contacting me. Needless to say that all my incorrect information is now on the trees or others who believe it to be correct.

As far as Henry snr is concerned, people on Ancestry and other sites have 3 different sets of parents up for his grandparents (parents of his father John 1812-1863). In trying to find which was correct, I only managed to prove them all wrong. We spent a lot of time on trying to work them out and a descendent of the Fruen line lives in London near the Family History Centre. The problem had him interested so he spent about 2-4 weeks in the centre going over records and I think he has finally solved the problem.

I have all that information on my tree on Tribalpages along with heaps of copies of original records. I also have a copy of the baptism record for Henry John Conduit (bapt 22 Mov 1835, St Clements, Fisherton Anger), plus the marriage record of Henry and Sarah (1 Sep 1856, All Saints, Woodford) and both of their death records. I tried to find their unmarked grave in the Ararat cemetery, but though I was in the right area, I couldn't find it. Most of the markers are buried under dirt and weed.

I also have a few Conduit, Alford and Fruen photos on Tribal, including a possibly photo of Sarah Emma Alford. The photo can be one of only two people, so there is a 50/50 chance that it is her.

If you would like more information on the ancestors of Henry and Sarah or to see what I have on the descendents of Selina Jane Conduit and Edward Matthew Timms then please go to my tree on Tribalpages and send me a message from that site so I can give you access. If you see any errors in your line then please let me know. I would love to add your line if I don't already have it up there. The site address is http://dianefentontree.tribalpages.com

Look forward to hearing from you through Tribal and possibly solving the mystery of the previously unknown 2 boys.

Cheers,
Diane
Wodonga, Vic

Henry J Conduit & Sarah E Alford'd children born Victoria, Aust

Does anyone have a copy of the birth record of the first known child of Henry John Conduit and Sarah Emma Alford, Sarah Emma b. 1859 (m. SMART) or the 3rd known child, Selina Jane b. 1852 (m. TIMMS)? I was looking at the birth record of their 2nd child Henry John jnr (aka John Henry) b. 29 Apr 1860. The copy is not clear but under the marriage of the parents where it lists previous issue there are 3 lines:
1 boy (there is a } connecting line 1 & 2)
1 girl } living (this would be Sarah Emma)
1 boy dead
This seems to indicate that Henry and Sarah had 2 other previously unknow male children before 1860 and it is possible that a reference to them is also on Sarah Emma or Selina Jane's birth records registered in Belfasr (Pt Fairy). There is no reference to these 2 boys on the birth record of younger son William Henry in 1869.
The other thing that I noticed is time between the birth of Sarah and Henry. I have not seen an original of Sarah's birth record but I have been told she was born 13 Sep 1859. That is only 7 months 16 days and would make Henry John a premature baby. Can anyone confirm the date of birth for Sarah Emma?
Henry and Sarah married in Woodford, Wilts on 1 Sep 1856 (date from original rec) and sailed for Australia 5 Oct 1856 arriving in Belfast (now Port Fairy) on 17 Jan 1857. Little time to have had children before they left England or did Sarah have an illegitimate child there? She could have been pregnant when they married and the first child born and died at sea. Otherwise both boys were born in Belfast and at least one died there. The other could have died anywhere between Belfast, Plesant Creek (Stawell) and Moyston.
I would be interested to hear anyone's thoughts on this subject.
Cheers,
Diane
http://dianefentontree.tribalpages.com
Currently adding copies of BDMs to site
I would very much like to learn more about WILLIAM TIMMS as well as about his wife MARY ROSS. They are my 4Ggrandparents. I am aware of only two of their children, Joseph Timms and MARY TIMMS, from whom I descend. Mary Timms was born 1760 in Charles County, Maryland. She married William Robertson, born 1748 in Charles County.

Thank you--Robert Ross robtross7513@gmail.com

Hi, don't think your family and ours are connected. The names Robert and Mary don't feature in anything I've researched so far. James & Walter Timms emigrated from UK to US in about 1860 and settled in Texas. Sorry.
