Hi! My name is Kathy Johnson and I am trying to find information about George W. Tinsman, b. 1816 in Grundy Co., Illinois. He married Mary "Polly" Moreland and they had 12 children while living in Loudoun Co., Virginia. I can't seem to discover who his FATHER and MOTHER were! Do you know anything about them? I have searched for weeks and can't find anything that would give me a CLUE!! I am researching the Tinsman Family from Loudoun Co., Virginia and I'm sure I probably have run across the couple I mentioned, but I can't make the connection! Please help!
Hi, I'm Daniel Tinsman

I have heard my grandmother talk about Josephine Tinsman and my great great grandmother on my Dad's father's side was named Margaret Tinsman. I have more information but as you guessed, I don't fully understand what I'm reading below. Please feel free to email or call me. I actually have a picture of my great-great grandmother Margaret Tinsman and her husband. He went by 'Buzz'.

orko1978@gmail.com
602-505-3105

Thanks, Daniel

Hi,
I am confused. I received and email stating that someone had info on Tinsman and it looked like it came from Sally Jordan. But when I clicked it up it appeared to be from Daniel Tinsman? Who am I communicating with?

I have been looking for Tinsman info for so many years and so much time lapses between finding anything, I tend to loose the thread of what I am doing, so please forgive me.
My whole tree is on mytrees.com. I am copying the Tinsman geneology that I have. If you know any of them...and if you did it would be so very wonderful!

I am following Peter Tinsman , who married Rosa. Their daughter is Josephine and I have 2 different sets of info on Josephine, but my Josephine was my grandmother and even though it doesn't match other info, I am sure of mine. She is buried in my family plot, but she died (1911) when my dad was 6 mon old and he knows nothing of her at all.

Tinsman, Samuel - #I906, b: 1820
Sp: Bunn, Rachel - #F271, b: 1823
Tinsman, Peter - #I65, b: 1849
Sp: Draeger, Rosa - #F14, b: 1846
Tinsman, Josephine - #I8, b: 1888
Sp: Fackenthal, Harry King - #F2, b: 1886
Fackenthal, Harold Tinsman - #I1, b: 1911
Sp: Kernahan, Rita Theresa - #F1, b: 1917
Fackenthal, Andrea Lynn - #I4, b: 1947
Sp: Wesley, Bruce - #F70, b: 1946
Sp: Whiting, Robert - #F71, b: 1946
Fackenthal, Harold Michael - #I5, b: 1953
Sp: Ruddy, Patrice - #F74
Fackenthal, Jill Elise - #I6, b: 1958
Fackenthal, Karen Anita - #I10, b: 1946
Sp: Thatcher, Dale Francis - #F3, b: 1945
Tinsman, Jessie - #I971, b: 1880
Sp: Walter, John L - #F293
Tinsman, Spencer - #I908, b: 1843
Tinsman, Josephine - #I909, b: 1847
Sp: , x - #F291
Tinsman, Jessie - #I968, b: 1870
Sp: Kuhn, James F - #F292
Tinsman, Moses A - #I910, b: 1851
Sp: , Jane - #F272, b: 1822
Tinsman, Garrett twin - #I914, b: 1818
Sp: Saylor, Margaret - #F278, b: 1838
Tinsman, Peter twin - #I915, b: 1818
Sp: Allen, Elizabeth - #F274
Sp: , Catherine - #F275
Tinsman, Mary - #I916, b: 1823
Sp: Quinn, George - #F276
Tinsman, Andrew S - #I917, b: 1841
Tinsman, Emeline - #I918, b: 1846
Sp: Ryan, John - #F277
Tinsman, Rose - #I919, b: 1838
Sp: Tinsman, Peter - #F288
I hope you can understand this.

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “Grace, Mary and Winfield Tinsman”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in about 1885, in Fowler (Benton Co.) IN, and Winfield looks to be about age 5, while Grace and Mary look to be ages 7 & 9.

I found Winfield Tinsman, with YOB 1881 Indiana, in a Kankakee, IL Hospital. Research shows that he surely was the son of George W. and Charlotte Tinsman of Richland (Benton Co.) IN. Mary Tinsman, age 7, and Grace Tinsman, age 4, appear in the 1880 census for Hunterdon Co., NJ, as daughters of Sherd and Margaret Tinsman. My theory is that the girls and Winfield were cousins.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Winfield, Grace or Mary Tinsman.

Looking for info on the children of Henry, b. Bucks Co. abt 1775, a son of Adam Tinsman who went to Westmoreland Co. ca. 1797 with several sons, most settling in E. Huntingdon Twp. Henry appears in census records for Mt. Pleasant Twp. in 1800-1820. Date of death unknown. Census records show only 2 children (1M, 1F). Where there others?
My connection is through his daughter Nancy, who married William Shupe/Shoup. Any data on Henry & his family will be appreciated.

I have found a copy of the Deed of Sale, 15 April 1817, in which the brothers John and Samuel Cummings sold their 188 acres in East Huntingdon Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA, to John Snyder for $9,250. The 1817 deed goes on to list John Snyder's new neighbors then living along the property lines. They were listed as: Alexander Miller, Peter Stauffin, Jacob Dustine, David Hunter, Henry TINSTMANN, and Hillman Boon. I am hoping to determine exactly where the above property was, appreciate any ideas?

This is a quick response to your questions about William R. Tinsman. I'll respond to your other questions later.

William R. (Riley) Tinsman is in the 1900 census in Dawson County, Nebraska. His birth is shown as June 1844 in Virginia. His wife's name was Jule Eleise (last name not know). The 1900 census gives her birth as June 1847 in Switzerland and indicates that she immigrated in 1870. They were married for 26 years (c. 1874) and had one child, Daisey, b. March 1886 in Ohio.

I don't know when William left Loudoun but clearly he made his way into Ohio. I suspect that's where he met his wife. At any rate, sometime between 1886 and 1900, they joined their relatives who had earlier settled in Nebraska.

Jule Eleise died in 1918 in Sumner, Dawson County, in 1918 and is buried at the Sumner cemetery.

William remarried in 1919. On Oct 14 he married the widow Velona E. Mills in Sumner. The marriage certificate identifies William's parents and Samuel Tinsman and Mary Triplett.

This is all a bit far afield of the basic Tinsman questions we're trying to resolve back in Loudoun and Clarke counties. But I've been working on a project to trace all the Tinsman counsins and relations who ended up in Nebraska, and I think it'll help sort out some of the relationships.

I am VERY interested. She was my grandmother. She died 6 mont6h after my father died. I know nothing of her or her family...because my grandfather remarried in 2 years and Anna Roberts ( 2nd wife) raised him as her own and would only say cruel nasty things about his real mother....I am sure I know the reason though....Anna was a high school sweetheart and then Josephine came into the picture and he was married to her in 6 mon...Anna was ragingly jealous...so that is why nothing of her family is known to us and was actually forbidden knowledge! So please..any tidbit! thanks. karen

David,
There was a Henry Tinsman on early tax lists for Loudoun. Was his wife Phebe? Her 2 boys Henry b. abt. 1799 and Samuel b. abt. 1804 are listed in an orphan or apprentice record for Loudoun.
Also, there is a William b. abt 1798 and Nancy on later censuses, was Wm a son of Henry, too and nancy married to their brother?
I have an 1820 census in Frederick Co. for William. Wm, Nancy and Henry are on the 1830 Loudoun. 1840 I have Wm & Henry, but can't find Nancy.
William married Jane Triplett, and Henry was married to Ann or Nancy or Nancy Ann (name is Ann on 1850 & 1870, but in 1860 is Nancy - same family for sure) don't know her last name. I don't want to assume that the children with these aforementioned Tinsmans in 1850 are their children as listed on the census, because they could be nieces and nephews. Do you know who belongs to whom?
I am particularly interested in John Montreville Tinsman b. abt 1817m Susan Duncan. And The Samuel that married Frances Lanham.

Thank you!
Jodie

Here are the particulars. Questions are at the bottom:

Samuel Tinsman b abt 1822 married Frances Lanham b abt 1825 on 30 Oct 1843 in Clarke County.

Census:

1850 Warren County pg 49
Samuel 28
Frances 27
Julia 6
Eliza 5
Mary 5/12
Mary Lanham 50 (Mary could be Frances’ mother but might also be her aunt. Mary’s mother was probably Zilla/Zilpa Lanham (on the 1820-1830 Frederick County &1840 Clarke County Censuses) and Zilla’s husband was likely Amasa on the 1810 Frederick County.)

1860 Jefferson County (W.VA)
Samuel 37
Frances 36
Julia 15
Eliza 13
Thaddeus 2
Mary Lanham 68

I cannot locate Samuel, Frances or Mary on the 1870 census.
Julia married John Slack 13 Aug 1868 they are in Clarke County pg 459.
Eliza married Albert Tinsman (father also named Samuel) they are in Loudoun County pg 209.
Thaddeus is with Frances M Tinsman (son of Henry) and his wife in Clarke County on pg 466.

Mary died of old age in 1871 (Clarke County Death Records, parents listed as Mason & Zilla)

In 1880 Frances is living with Julia and her husband John and is listed as 55 yrs old and a widow.
Does anyone know where Samuel, Frances and Mary were in 1870 and when Samuel died?? Does anyone descend from this line?
I don’t see Thaddeus or Eliza & Albert on the 1880. Does anybody know what became of them?
Thank you,
Jodie Gil
I have attached a photo taken in 1936 of my Uncle as a boy and his grandparents that raised him. This is in Findlay, OHIO. The grandfather's name is Adam Tinsman and not sure of the grandmother's name but could be "Maude". The young boy is WILLIAM ALLEN TINSMAN...born in 1929.

If you think there is a connection in this Tinsman line, I would be happy to share information. Please see attached photo.
You can contact me at renetann@aol.com
