My last name is Titus and I am trying to find out if my family which lives in Calvert County Maryland (there's not very many of us) is related to the Titus' in Trenton New Jersey. My grand-father's name was Benjamin Titus, he had 3 cousins named: James (who was blind and lived in Pennsylvania), John and Margeret. His father's name was Lewis Titus and his mother's name was Carrie. Lewis may have had a brother named Jim. I am told that they originally lived in Roanoke Virginia, then moved to Maryland, then on to New Jersey. I would really appreciate someone helping me find out if there is a possible link.

Russel is my father and we are having a difficult time trying to find his father. We don't think Titus, Charles, is his father, as he married Minnie in 1905 in South Dakota. Dad was born in 1901 in Iowa, to Minnie Mae Lawrence (her Maiden name). She was 13 in 1901, we think she married a man by the name, Rascelus P Hamilton, he was a black man according to the Iowa census. He was a barber in Dow City where Minnie's family lived. If all this is correct, Dad's birth name was Rusal R Hamilton.

We grew up believing Dad's father was Albert Allen, it was within the past few months we found all this out. Albert's family told us that they all knew he was adopted. But they aren't sure if the adoption was legal or just a changing of the last name. Minnie was married at least 3 times or more. The Hamilton marriage was in 1901, the Titus marriage was in 1905, the Allen marriage was 1910, then in 1930's she married John Rhinesmith, who we knew. Trying to find divorces for the first two. I know Titus continued to live in South Dakota, Hamilton total blank.

Sorry to overload with info, but when I saw Dad's picture, whew! So your wife is which of my brother and sisters children?
Seeking information on Harold Titus born in 1929 New Jersey. Harold lived in Carteret and Elizabeth, NJ. Mother Anna Meklune Titus (b.1907 d.1934) of Carteret, NJ. Father not confirmed but possibly Fred Titus (b.1905 Canada) who immigrated about 1927 to Carteret, NJ. Harolds parents were married at the time of his birth but did not live together. By 1933 Anna remarried a Keat and had a daughter, Hilda (half sister to Harold) in 1934. Anna died in 1934. Only known information on Harolds father is that he was Canadian.
Titus families of England other than Silas?

My family descends from Abiel1, son of Robert.
I was amusing myself searching for any information about the Silas (called Silius Tito) that I could find seeing as many people have assumed that Robert, our ancestor, is the unproven son of a first marriage between Silius and Jane Newdyke who died ca 1621 according to accounts, after which Silius married Constance Colley.

Some things stood out for me while researching:

1. Silius apparently left a will under "Sylas Tyto" of p. St, Andrew Holborn, London (121 Lee) pr. Oct 5 by Relict Constance, This is under Yearbook of Probates (from 1630), abstracts of. Has anyone ever seen this will and commented?

2. After the period of Jane Newdyke's, his first wife's death, he was involved in a contracted lawsuit with his former father in law, Robert Newdyke.

3. Why would the son of his second marriage (Silas Titus II) have garnered so many educational benefits (Christ Church, etc.) and be in such a close position to royalty (apparently even Silius Sr. was given lands in 1606-07 by King James) whereas Robert, apparently was not similarly educated or wealthy? This alone makes me question the connection. Both Silius and Newdyke were well to do and any children of that match should have likewise benefitted. I believe Robert described himself as a Yeoman. Silas Jr. was an Esquire.

In naming conventions of the time, wouldn't Robert have named at least one of his five sons "Silas" if that was his father's name? The most common male name among his children's sons is "John", then Silas.

Titus is not a terribly common name in Great Britain even now, but I haven't seen anyone follow up on any names outside of Silius Tito in what is written online.
I had seen a reference to French seal on a letter to the Pope for a "Henry Tytys" in 1301 AD.

Can anyone cite any research that was done on other Titus families who may not have any lines in America?

Bill Titus who sponsored the Titus family reunion every labor day discontinued it because of declining attendance. He has since died. His given name was Allan but I always knew him as Bill. Fred Burd of Pennington was a cousin twice removed I think and he may know of some of the Titus family younger generation but he is about 92 or 93 years old. The reunion was held at an old school near Bowman's Tower in Pa. Bill or Allen was decended from Albert Titus son of John and Elizabeth Titus of Hopewell Towhship. Albert was my great-grandmothers's brother
My father was Donald Dennis Titus, he had 13 siblings in which most passed away at an early age, but he had a sister Florence, Jean (Genevieve), Verne (Veronica), Loretta, Margaret, Mary, he was the only surviving son and yes Florence was the youngest and he was next to her. Their parents were Seeley Myron Titus and Ellen Eagan Titus. They lived in Luzerne. If there is anything else I can help with let me know. Mary Ellen

Hi --

I think this is my grandmother's family. My grandmother was Mattie. She married George Durfee, a farmer. They lived in Middleburgh, NY for most of their marriage. As they grew older, their children moved them to Schenectady, NY. There were 7 children who lived to adulthood. In approximate birth order were Marguerite, George, Marion, Naomi, Mae (my mother), Estelle, and Ward. There may have been two others who died in infancy.

My grandmother's sister was Hattie. Hattie's husband was "Doc" Cerino. Don't know his given first name but he was a pharmacist, hence the nickname Doc. They had a summer residence at Wilmington, NY, in the Adirondacks. I think Hattie had a daughter, Ruth, and a granddaughter, Ellen.

I am not well versed in the family tree but I have a cousin who is.

I'm a little curious about the surname Zander. My given first name is Zanderia (long since shortened to Zan) and I was always told that it was my grandmother's middle name.

I'm doing a family tree for my friend, Nancy, who is a descendant of John C. Titus. She's going to give the trees out as Christmas presents to her family. I'm also collecting pictures and documents. I just found out about this incident today and want to add what I can to her tree.

First off, does anyone know the date Joseph and Abraham were killed? I have seen on Ancestry the date of 9 Oct 1866 and also 20 Nov 1866. The newspaper report on 23 Nov states it happened "last week." That would make the 20th seem more likely. But I would hate to put up a wrong date.

Second, does anyone out there have any pictures or copies of documents they could email me to use on Nancy's tree? I would really appreciate it!

Sincerely,
Cecilia Joder
cecilia.backhaus@verizon.net

Hi.
I knew Jim and Sonia in the late '50's and early '60's. I was in 7th or 8th grade with Sonia at Charleston Elementary in Coos Bay, OR in the late 1950's. I don't know where Jim went to school, He was a little older and maybe out of school. Jims family lived at Crown Point near Charleston, OR....up the road from where I lived. I know that Jim had several brothers and sisters. Jims younger sister Sue Titus was my sisters best friend. Other than that, I know that they were French Canadian. Jim was tall, brown eyes, brown hair and olive complected. His sister Sue had black curly hair and was a little darker complected than Jim.
After Jim and Sonia were married, I seem to recall that they 2 or 3 children. I moved to southern California after that and lost touch. I know for sure that they lived in Coos CO oregon for at least several years. In Coos Bay. Good luck with your search. Shari
feel free to contact me at: sharonipa@yahoo.com

Hi all. I might be able to help you out a little.
The only Elizabeth I have found from my line, (Tunis,Andrew Tunis,Luther Hill), was an Elizabeth b:1877 from the (Tunis,John Tunis, John D.) line. I have a good bit of info from Tunis,Andrew,Luther,William,Chester if interested. I also suspect Tunis is linked to Content, but haven't proven it either way as of yet. Drop me an email if I can be of any help. toddtitus@mindspring.com
