I am a descendant of John B Toms.I was wondering how certain you are about John being married to Nancy Neal? I came across the 1850 census with Jno Toms b 1831,Nancy Toms b 1830 and Sally Toms b 1835. There is also a Sarah Toms age-65 which list her birth year as 1785. So with Sarah still living in 1850, John being 18, Nancy 20, and Sally 15.I am assuming John B Toms the father has passed away by then.Is it possible that John was married 2 times and didn't have any children with Nancy Neal. He had the children by this Sarah Toms born 1785? http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1850usfedcenan... I provided the link to the census off ancestory.com Hopefully you could shed some light. Just to let you know my father and grandfather and great grandfather has the name John Toms too. This name goes back hundreds of years to the first born son.

Following is the Critzer/Tomes connection in my tree.

Polly (or Mary Polly) Critzer (b. abt 1796 d. about 1850 in VA) Her father was John M. Critzer (b.1740 in Prussia, d.Dec 1817 Mt Sydney, Nelson, VA
Clifton Tomes (b.1794 d. 1856 in Lovington, Nelson, Va) His father was John H. Tomes, and it appears Johns father was Thomas Toms b. 24 Jun 1731 in Albemarle, VA.
Polly Critzer and Clifton Tomes married in 1813
One of their sons was James Henry or James T. Tomes(1828-1900 married Emily Jane Cook. James, Emily later moved to Coffee County, TN.
One of their sons was John Henry Toms (notice "e" is missing from Tomes) (1861-1925) who married Frances Rosetta Adams 1824-1912)
One of their sons was William Thomas Toms (1883-1967 who
married Mary Ann Blackburn (1883-1946)
One of their sons was Julius Lloyd Toms (1918-1992) who
married Nelia Belle Street (1923-2004)
Julius and Nelia were my parents.

Do you think we share the same Toms/Critzer line?

Edward Thompson Toms/Tombs of Amelia Co., VA

Has anyone researched Edward Thompson Tombs/Toms who married Elizabeth Ford about 1780 in Amelia Co., VA? Is he the same man who may have married Charlotte Griffin also in VA about 1803? Is he the same Edward Thompson Tombs/Toms who married Jane Gowin/Garvin in Columbia Co., GA, on April 20, 1803? Reynard Anderson of Amelia Co., VA, was his brother-in-law, they having married sisters. I believe Reynard (sp.) Anderson and family moved from Amelia Co. to Nelson Co. or somewhere along the VA/KY border. Any information will be appreciated.

samuel toms + spencer Toms - Nyack and elyria usa and brooklin ontario

I have been given letters written by samuel william SPENCER toms written in the late 1800s, although christened samuel he chose to use spencer as his father was samuel, spencers father samuel was born in england he married elizabeth spencer, they had four children - minnie, spencer, victoria and alexandria, her middle name was frances so was nicknamed frankie - frances was a photographer, unusual proffession for a woman in those days, her photos can be found on the net, spencer became a surgeon in Nyack he had one son from his marrage to elizabeth orr, the son died age 25 from an electric shock. i seek help in locating samuel in the uk,
he married elizabeth in brooklin ontario canada, elizabeths family is well documented, unlike samuel. in spencers letters he writes to walter louis toms in leytonstone (my tree paternal side)- but mentions a family member on his maternal side, lawrence jesty of blandford dorset, he aslo mention a effie agnew from jersey, channel isles, effie is a spencer by birth, clearly the letter to w.l.toms at the address my father and grandfather lived seems to prove a link, yet the birth of samuel or records of him going to the usa alude me, any help would be fantastic

Can anyone help?! For the past 10 years! I have been searching for the birth & parents of James TOM(S) & explored every avenue I can think of. He was b.1841/1844.He lived in Egloshayle & married in Padstow in 1864 - Elizabeth Hocking & on the marriage certificate stated that his father was Anthony TOM - labourer. The only Anthony TOM(S) I can find are from Plymouth - no mention of James. I have all the information after his marriage but cannot find on 1851 census. He may have been illegitimate but any help would be very much appreciated!

Tom(s) of Delaware 1671 Census

Hi all my Toms Cousins. I found this information in the Delaware 1671 Census and thought I would share. I have always thought that this William Tom(s) was my direct G+Grandfather But this info shows a different aspect. I believe now that it may have been a brother of Williams. And since no Direct relatives existed in Delaware to leave his belongings to his brother would have come over from England later. (maybe)

William Tom (#156) also came to New Castle in 1664 with Captain John Carr's company. In 1671 he was the High Sheriff for the Delaware and owned considerable property. Among these was a patent dated 29
July 1669, for a lot then in his tenure bounded on the north by James Crawford (#155), on the east with the river, on the south by Cornelis Wynhart (#158) and land of Matthias de Ring on the west.197WilliamTom never married. While under house arrest for debt, he wrote his will 3January 1677/8 and died that month, leaving his entire estate (after
payment of debts) to his godson, Richard Cantwell. When the estate was finally settled, 22 February 1682/3, nothing was left for Richard

This Information was found in the 1671 Census of Delaware USA.

If anyone has any information regarding William or any Early Toms in America/England please let me know.

Note: Catherine Toms of Maryland died 1770 signed her will
Catherine "Tombs"

I have some copied photos of those Toms with some of the Barrow family. I also have some photo copies of some of our older Bienville/Lincoln Parish Toms.

Happy to help - let me know if you need any other info on the Toms - I do have some info - it is very confusing as they intermarried. You might also check Nelson Co. & Albemarble Co. census records. Nelson Co. was Amherst Co originally and I believe so was Albemarle. You should also check Augusta Co. records.

Happy hunting,
Sheila

Hi there!

My paternal grandmother was Amelia Toms and her family came from Southall in Middlesex, so maybe I have a relative in your tree somewhere? I know she had a brother who served in the Great War, called James Arthur Toms. My father always referred to his uncle Jim with great affection as he inspired my father to try his hand at boxing!

Any link would be wonderful as I have no living relative on that side of my family now - even my dad isn't around. Thanks for reading!

Kate x

Hello: Nice to hear from someone who knows my family. Palestine Toms was my great-grandfather. Bertha was my grandmother, Mae was my aunt and also Aunt Inez.
Palestine Toms - Great grandfather
Bertha Smith (married name)- my grandmother
Mae(May) - my aunt (who) lived next to my grandmother until both of their deaths. They lived in Ravenden, Arkansas. nexgt to each other. There was a path that led down to each others homes and when I visited my grandmother (Bertha) I would run down to my Aunt May's home.
My mother Bobby Jean Smith is still living (81) years old and lives in Riverbank, Calif. I live in Jamestown, California. About 1/2 hour from my mom.
I'm sure my mother Bobby would love to know more about Aunt Inez as she has mentioned her before. Also, anything you know about Palestine would be nice. I have a picture in my living room with Palestine and all his girls(who were in their teens, includes my great-aunt Inez). There is also a boy in the picture, I believe from another marriage. What nationality was Palestine?
Thanks.
Vivian (Smith) Jantz
email: shalav@mlode.com
p.s. I'm 61 years old now.
