The information about Barnabus Green is of interest to me, but my research does not indicate that all WV Toney's descend from Poindexter. In fact Burbus was the son of Squire Toney and Nancy Brown. Squire Toney was the son of William Toney and Leah Gatliff, and this William Toney (Jr) was the son of William Toney of Franklin County, Virginia. The first William Toney - or at least the first one here - was married several times and had many children. William and Poindexter were only two of them. For some reason that information hasn't made it to my family tree on Ancestry. I'll try to get that updated as soon as possible.

YOUNGSTOWN – A funeral service celebrating the life of Ms. Vickie Toney, 53, will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the Washington Funeral Home. Ms. Toney departed this life March 4, 2012, in Youngstown, Ohio.

Ms. Toney was born June 12, 1958, in Youngstown, OH a daughter of Leevaughn B. and Phyllis M. Rudolph Toney.

She was a very gifted student and in 1975, she graduated from South High School at the age of 16.
She studied at Youngstown State University, majoring in Business Management and she was an artisan of cross stitching and quilting. She was also a skilled artist and poet. She was a warm and caring foster mother who dedicated her time to her loving family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her father, Leevaughn B. Toney; her stepmother, Ruby Toney; four loving children, LaKeshia M. Toney, Paris L. Toney-Hill and her husband, Joshua, Ajuante and Andrah Toney; three siblings, Leevaughn B. Toney Jr., Alisa M. Toney and Emette J. Toney and his wife, Shawn; five grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Philip and Sarah Rudolph; her mother, Phyllis M. Rudolph Toney; her son, Andrew Jerome Toney; her granddaughter, Alliyah Janay Toney.
Friends may call Saturday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

I feel a need to jump back into the thread. I've researched the Toney line for about 20 years or so and this is what I've found that is supported by documentation. Abraham Toney Sr., a revolutionary pensioner, was very likely wed to Sarah Draper, one of the daughters of Thomas and Lucy Coleman Draper. In the record holdings of the Spartanburg County there is a document in an Estate Tax Record book that proves that Abraham Toney and his "first wife" were the parents of William and Elizabeth. The document also names the children of Abraham and Elizabeth Gibson Toney. My records are packed up as result of two recent moves and I can't share that at this moment but will dig it out so that I can. If I'm not mistaken Carey Beaube first alerted me to this record. Her John Toney is my great uncle, brother to my great-grandfather Robert Toney. I have worked on the Draper line with Suzanne Watt, a Draper-Coleman descendent. I have heard for years about the Abraham Toney Jr marriage to Sarah Draper, but if that connection exists she was not the daughter of Thomas and Lucy Draper. Draper sons likely named daughters Sarah, but the evidence from the generational time frame does not fit Abraham Toney Jr, being the husband of Sarah Draper, daughter of Thomas and Lucy Coleman Draper. As soon as I retrieve the tax record I will post it.

No I don't know how to contact him. If you are connected to the ancestory.com go to search click that on and, type in the information on him and click search. It will come up on the right the list of people who have a family tree on him you can click each one of them on and see if he is listed in their family tree. A person who has started a family tree has to invite you on as a guest to look at the family tree they have complied.

Hilton Thomas Toney m. Gertrude Crouch Burnett betw 1910 & 1920

Looking for information on this couple who lived in Mineral City, FL in 1920.
Hilton served briefly in the National Guard in 1917, but was discharged to care for dependents in same year.
Gertrude Toney died in 1921, and Hilton remarried a woman named Frances by 1924 (listed in Jacksonville, FL city directory at 220 Spearing).
Hilton worked for Mex Petroleum Corp in 1925.
Hilton's parents were William V. Toney & Sarah S. from Atlanta, GA. Hilton's siblings were Verner or Virgil B, Maude L, William C, Edward E, Claude (Claud) L, Gracie May, & Josie A.
Gertrude was my great grandmother's sister.

Angelo Toney, Jr., 78, of Crooksville, Ohio (Perry County) passed away at 8:45 PM, Friday, December 2, 2011 at Genesis Hospice Morrison House in Zanesville, Ohio following an extended illness.

Angelo was born June 13, 1933 in Keokee, Virginia,(Lee County) the son of the late Angelo and Dorthula Legg Toney, Sr.

Mr. Toney was a retired coal miner from Peabody Coal Company.

Angelo is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carole Houk McGill Toney; his daughters and sons-in-law, Ramona and Dan Rugg of New Lexington, Ohio, Lesa and Dirk Brown of Millersport, Ohio, and Angie and Mike Stephens of Heath, Ohio; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny and Sue Toney of Heath, Ohio and Jerry and Sissy Toney of Newark, Ohio; twelve grandchildren, Tonya, Travis, Jason, Tamra, Drake, Dustin, Devin, Dakota, Destiny, Chelsie, Jared and Michael; his five great grandchildren, Jada, Grady, Tegan, T.J., and Wesley; his sisters-in-law, Bonnie Finnell and Don, Sue (Jack) Hunter; his brothers-in-law, Gary (Vikki) Price and Larry (Joan) Houk and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle, Joseph and Edith Toney and his former wife and the mother of his daughters, Frances Marie Toney.

Not to worry, my house is in total disarray from a water leak in my bedroom and sunroom... I'll have a busy week-end, but will try to post as I'm able. I have 10 known/listed children for Noel.
I'm attaching a REVERSE image of one of the war records that I received from the NA (just posted tonite as well).. I've never been able to figure out what it says??!! Guess I should have made them send me a new copy but that was Feb '04..

Bear with me as I'm adding 'em all manually since my old genealogy program isn't compatible with Ancestry.. I have about 9000 with the various lines which I'm trying to update,albeit slowly. I haven't thoroughly researched the Toney line since about 2005.
I don't have Wesley's 1st wife (I assume they were married in TN). Second wife was Eliza Hudson/Hutson who he married in 1843 in Jefferson Co., IL. She is listed on further census as Maria, Mormom and Morning?! Wesley is in Hickman Co., TN in 1830-listed as Westley as well as a Pinkney Toney. I haven't found Wesley after the 1860 census.
I always heard that my grandmother's line was Indian, but never knew from where. It's one of the reasons I sent to the National Archives for the war records. I do know that Indians, especially from the 5 Nations, had Anglicized names.
I have posted my tree to Rootsweb and will update later to-nite and when I add more for those who don't have the advantage a paid subscription.

I also agree that Alexander is a ?? for father of Noel. I have also heard this.
I found Noel as Newel on the 1810 census in Barren county KY. I feel sure this is him as the wife and children's ages seem right. Has the Indian hertiage come up in your line?
I have talked to different peiple and this has come up. My dad told me he had been told of this, but I don't know if it is from the Toney line or Vicky.

I am interested in your Wesley line if you care to share. His wives have been a mystery to me and his date of death.

Ephraim is my line and will be happy to share my info with you.

Noel is the line I descend from thru his son, Wesley. I have Noel in Hickman Co., TN as early as 1815 and on the 1820 census for that county. By 1830, he had moved to Jefferson Co., IL. I have seen several trees that list his father as Alexander and have him on the Barren Co., KY census. I'm not sure I agree. I wrote the National Archives and obtained his War of 1812 records, but alas, they didn't show any additional data. I have posted that to my Ancestry tree. I don't have a current paid subscription so will just have to keep digging. I haven't found anything with regards to his wife's maiden name.

JOHNSON, Edna Geraldine, 80, of Cherry Valley Road, Cadiz, Ohio, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2008, at her home after a lengthy illness.

Geraldine was born March 23, 1928, in McIntyre, Ohio daughter of the late Howard and Agnes Toney Smith.

She was a homemaker and loved to cook.
She was a very active member of the Shaffer Chapel A.M.E. Church in McIntyre, Ohio where she was the church organist for many years and a member of the Missionary and Stewardship Boards.

In addition to her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Johnson; a son, Lewis Smith; a daughter, Jennifer Rene Smith; and two sisters, Mabel Smith and Mildred Burke.

Surviving are her children, Cornell (Valorie) Smith of Charlotte, N.C., Alice Dokes of Wintersville, Ohio, Kathryn Smith of Rochester, N.Y., David Lamont "Poncho" Smith of Charlotte, Calvin "Skeets" Gregory of Cadiz, Ohio, Maurice (Lori) Smith of Sistersville, W.Va., Gwendolyn McWilliams, loving caregiver of home; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren including, Tessa Love, Kyle Smith, and Jeffrey Smith, all whom she raised; and two brothers, Clayton Smith of Baltimore, Md., and Wilford (Pearl) Smith of Steubenville, Ohio.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Shaffer Chapel A.M.E. Church, in McIntyre, Ohio from 11 a.m. until time of Geraldine's services which are at 1 p.m. The Rev. Mary Ann Smith will officiate her service and burial will follow in McIntyre Cemetery.

I do know that there is a census records which shows one of the Toneys as a slave owner in Alabama, but I can't give you the specifics just now. My son, John Mark Draper, just sent me a copy of the will of Thomas Draper (1725 or so) who left Abraham Toney a cow and calf or $10, the only non-family member he left anything to. Other documents suggest to me that Abraham Toney was a slave. Do you have any information on this?

I have found much info linking us to vikings north of Oslo, Norway. I believe it to be true as my grandfather used to tell us about pirates in the family which was probably linked to the Vikings

FindaGrave has males William Elmo TONEY (8 May 1878 - 8 Nov. 1960) also Marion Everette TONEY (22 June 1880 - 1954) both buried in Mt. Zion Baptist Cem., New Canton, Buckingham Co., VA. There are quite a few TONEY burials you can see by Googling FindaGrave.

It doesn't seem to have the above, but RootsWeb Family Trees has many TONEY entries for Buckingham County.

My father and I went to the Vital Records Office in Crawford County, Indiana and got a copy of George Toney's death certificate. Indiana did not record birth certificates prior to 1882, however, Vital Records also provided us with an official Genealogy Report that listed George's father as J. W. Toney and his mother as Lucinda Screach -- although Lucinda's name may have been Creech. I have posted scans of the documents at "EAP Family Tree". Hope this helps!

Hi my name is Suzette. My grandfather was Joe Wiggins and had a sister name Addie Wiggins-Toney. She married a Willis or(Whit)Toney they wer from Barbour County Alabama, and had many childred moved to Detroit Michigan 1930's or 1940's There children were as follows: Lillie, Menion, Beatrice, and Sonny Toney. Hope I have been of some help. Lillie's mother Addie and father were native american of Creek/Seminole and her father George Wiggins was of the Cherokee tribe. Yes it does..cuz my FIL married my MIL and they had to kids, my husband and his older brother. I believe my FIL's twin lived here too from what they tell me. My FIL's parents died in Jacksonville, I think. Like you said, he lived in Deland for a while, my husband is from there. Great. What is the name of this book maybe my local library might have it in this Geneology area. If not that's ok.

According to the book, Betty was the last of 13 children and was born on Sept 11, 1917. You are right that Jim and John were the twins. Also, apparently Earl was in the service and spent some time in Germany. At the end of the chapter on Buetta Leona, the book states that after Germany they settled in DeLand, Florida. Ring any bells?

In any case, the book on the Story family is interesting and allowed me to go back 5 additional generations from my great grandmother (Betty's sister) without much effort beyond a Google search (the book that was given to my grandmother in 1969 and I recently came across it).

Sounds about right for what I know. I know Betty had siblings (lots of them). My MIL said to me that she was baby and didn't get named till later. She was "no name" Story for the longest time she said. MY FIL passed in 2005 so he can't tell me. If my Betty is your Buetta then what is her birthday? Mine is about 1912. Now, about the children: John (FIL) and Jim where twins. Don't know about Dan or Jerry being twins. But I don't have any records to look at about this.

I am pretty sure that your Betty Story (your FIL mother) is my great-grandmother's sister. I recently came across a little book put together by one of Betty's siblings describing the Story family (Jasper Newton Story and Rose May Milligan). Betty's real name was Buetta Leona Story and she married the book says she married "Earl Tony" and had children John, Jim, Larry, Dan, and Jerry (two were twins). They were from Pittsburg,KS area.

McDONALD, Ohio - A service celebrating the life of Tracy L. Toney will be held at noon on Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Austintown Free Will Baptist Church.

Tracy was born June 11, 1970, the daughter of Roy and Elaine (Heck) Toney.

Tracy was employed as a caregiver for Comfort Keepers, graduated from Girard High School and attended the Austintown Free Will Baptist Church. She loved to play bingo, camp, fish and do all kinds of crafts. She cherished her time with her five children.

She will be sadly missed by her parents, Roy and Elaine Toney of Girard, Ohio; her mother, Sunday Emprich of Youngstown; and her five children, Timothy and Kristi Toney, both of Girard, Steven and Paul Swartz, both of East Liverpool, Ohio and Dana Swartz of McDonald.
She will also be missed by her sister, Michelle (Bill) Daugherty of Girard; brothers, Michael Toney of Girard, Roy (Samantha) Toney Jr. of Struthers, Ohio; and the love of her life, Jeff Weston.

Tracy was preceded in death by her sister, Katie Kelly and brother, Thomas Toney.

Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church.

The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the family.
