Do you have an obit on William Lewis Tonkinson, 1836-1901? He was my father-in-law's father. Floyd is listed as Lester F in the 1900 Census. His mother was Martha Rakestraw. According to my father-in-law, there was a fire. I am wondering if William and Earl died in the fire as there is no info on either of them after 1901.

I am the wife of Marvin Gerald Finch,his father was Floyd Finch (1898-1981. Floyd was adopted by the Finches. His father was William Lewis Tonkinson (1836-1901). His mother was Martha E Rakestraw (1858-1938. There were 3 other Tonkinson boys: William (1896-1993), Harry Matthew (1897-1981) and Earl (1890). Perhaps we could compare family historys. We have been looking for Tonks for years. Harry were adopted by the Finches, also. Ora was not adopted. Floyd did loose touch with Ora. The three brothers were reunited with both Floyd and Harry in the late 1970's.

I have a pewter gold leave statuette, mounted on an old board 15 by 8 . News paper on the back has dates 1830 to 1870... Just a few inches of newspaper.
below the statuette is a garland with the name TONKINSON. I am interested in selling it. It has been appraised and identified as a museum quality piece.

I have a Ruth Tonkinson mentioned in an obit for her father Norman E Tonkinson of Tampico, IL. . Her mother is Lille Rowe - (my ancestor). It states she has 2 brothers Donald & Asael Tonkinson. I dont' know much about this family except photos of the family farm in Tampico, IL. I also have several family photos & obits.... So any help completing the group? I don't know if it is the same woman, since I don't have a year of death for Norman E Tonkinson.

This is very strange. I have an aunt... Ruth Vancott Tonkinson born 3/18/1921......but as far as I know she was not fron the areas you mentioned..perhaps her parents were...she married Robert Joseph Tonkinson 12/23/42 in Floral Park NY..... the photo does not look like my aunt.....we both are very much into genealogy so keep in touch.... most of the Tonkinson on my dad;s side were from England... good luck..

Attached is a photo that has Ruth Tonkinson, Astoria Column, June 1942 on the back of it. It was in a box of old family photos. The family names are Illum, Beard, Fry, and Nelson. The pictures range from Idaho, Utah, Oregon, Wyomming, and Utah. If this person is in your family tree please let me know, I will see if I have more pictures, and see if we can figure out where they fit into our mutual family trees.

Hello Hello, Yes indeed my father went by Jim rather than Elmer. He disliked the name Elmer and I could see his point.
Jim ( James ) was actually his middle name. I knew IRA & EVA very well. It was not until I had spoke to Leora last year when my mother (EVA) passed away that I was able to piece more together. James & Abigail Tonkinson had children named Elmer, Ira, Claude, Wesley, and Bertha. Kind of interesting that someone posted a picture of William Lewis Tonkinson along with Henry Tonkinson & Ann Richardson.
I look alot like William Lewis Tonkinson. Funny that there isnt much on these sites about James & Abigail and thier children

Her father and mother were John Widrig Tonkinson (April 23, 1876-May 26, 1936) and Emma Martha Rapp Tonkinson (May 24, 1873-Nov. 23, 1953. John Widrig Tonkinson's parents were John Tonkinson (July 27, 1849(Norton, Yorkshire, England-Dec. 23, 1914(Hooppole, Illinois) and Lydia Almire Widrig (Dec. 10, 1854 (Hooppole, Illinois)- Sept. 8, 1912(Hooppole, IL). Looking for anything on James Henry Meir born approx 1852/3 in I think ,Tynemouth area He was a cornet player. He married Elizabeth Watson Hunter born 1857 Aberdeen, in Aberdeen Jan 1876. Then from 1881 resided in Edinburgh. His father is given as Thomas Meir a musician and mother Margaret Stewart and Elizabeth's parents were Robert Wilkinson Hunter a music teacher born Sunderland and Isabella Watson born 1820 in Anstruther Fife.I'd be grateful for any info.
