I have my tree online. Search for Owen or Griffin Toombs and Berry Branches 2012 should be listed. You can click on that and see what I have so far. I was stuck for twenty years looking for their parents until a fellow researcher from Carroll Co. provided the proof after visiting the Halifax Co. court house.

I have so many questions, Kim and I both, we would love to sit down and talk to her, we know nearly nothing about her...my step mom wouldn't really allow us to talk about her....wasn't fair at all !! I was told by my dads side how beautiful a person she was, I missed her everyday of my life, even now.

I am looking for additional information on Griffin/Griffen Tombs/Toombs, born circa 1812 in Virginia. He was married in Halifax Co, VA on 4 Jan 1834 to Ann Jeanette Moore; by 1840 they were in Carroll Co, TN (per the census records). Their children were William, Mary, James T, John H., and Albert G. I am looking for information on Griffen's parents, Jeanette's parents, and Griffen's and Jeanette's death dates in Carroll Co. They appeared in the 1880 census, but do not appear to have answered the 1900 census, so I believe that they both died before 1900. Any help or information about this family that is not in the censuses would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for his parents.

I believe Edmund is descended from Edmund Toombs and Sabrania Orsaberry, as he named one of his daughters Sabra. However, because of their ages, and his, I do not believe they are his parents, more likely grandparents.

If anyone has information, I would be grateful for it.

Thank you,
Anne Collins

Owen Toombs of Clay County AR

Thanks to the efforts of another Toombs researcher I have finally learned of his parents. He was born in Halifax County, VA in 1811, the son of William Toombs and Sarah. He had six siblings some of who remained in Halifax Co. and others who moved into western TN and in Owen's case Clay Co., AR. William Toombs was the son of Gabriel Toombs and Frances. All this is documented by land transactions and wills in Halifax Co. Finally a brick wall knocked down.
Craig Berry

Do you know the ancestry of Robert Toombs? Where did his ancestors come from in England? Ours came from Potterspury in Northampton. I have a lot of the genealogy from there and wanted to see if there is any relation between Robert and my gggrandfather James Toombs. If you have any it would be much appreciated to see where their thread came from.
Thanks

Robert A. Toombs, the Senator and General also had a half-brother, Lawrence Catlett Toombs. He died in 1829, leaving a son (Robert Ezekiel Toombs) and a daughter. Sen. & Genl. took this boy on as his own and educated him to be a doctor. He later moved to Cuthbert, Randolph Co., Ga. and had sons of his own. His son, Lawrence Catlett Toombs, Sr. had a son, Lawrence Catlett, Jr., which was my Great-Grandfather.

Dear R.W.,
I am your second cousin on your Grandfather Robert Toombs side. Your Mother died a few weeks after my Grandmother, Dorothy, your Grandfather Robert's sister. I met your Mother at my Grandmother's funeral. My Mom knows someone here who maybe can give you the answers you are lookin for. You can contact me directly at kachinagl@aol.com when you write plese put your mothers name in the subject line and I will know it is you. Your Great Grandmother Mary toombs lived to be 107 years old if she had lived one more day she would have been 108 she had amazing stories to tell and we have a few articles about her, she outlived all of her children and when robert your grandfather died she lost her will to live. I am researching the family tree and have a lot of info. Yes you did come from Native American roots.
Gerry

Hi, here is aome information from two different ancestry.com sources that could help in your search:

===============================
No, I have not heard those names before, but ask them if they have any relatives from the town of Washington, GA because that is where Confederate General Robert Toombs is from. He was a slave owner who was a Georgia Statesman (elected official) then Secretary of State, and later was appointed a Confederate General when the Civil War moved up to the more northern areas. When the capitol of the Confederacy was relocated from Montgomery to Richmond, VA, General Toombs moved there from Washington, GA.. His family joined him later.

This is why I was interested in his life, because of the possible connection to our maternal great, grandmother, Lizzie Toombs, who as a slave girl took care of children in Richmond by the name of Toombs. Could this possibly have been General Toombs family? I have questions, but no concrete answers.

This is why I want to go back to the courthouse in Washington, GA to see if I can dig up any useful information.

===============================

The answer to your question is yes......RA Toombs, Jr is the one who was a Senator from GA, helped write the Articles of Secession, was briefly Secretary of State, CSA, and then Brig. General under Lee in the Army of Northern VA. His only son, Lawrence Catlett Toombs died in 1832 at only 1 year old, his oldest daughter, Mary Louise died in 1855, his younger daughter, Sallie, was born is 1835 and married Dudley McIver Dubose so it is unlikely that your grandmother was caring for his children. He did have a brother, Augustus Gabriel Toombs who had children, but I have not gotten that far yet. It may be possible that he had heirs carrying the name Toombs during that time. The above info I found in the Ancestry World Tree Project; Tim Conner's Database and Nichols. Hope this helps.

I am attempting to trace my husband's grandmother who was born Lenora Beatrix Toombs in VA. She married William Dawson Hendrickson whose family was from New Jersey I understand.

================================

Hope that two sections of info help?

Winston

I have questions, but no concrete answers.

This is why I want to go back to the courthouse in Washington, GA to see if I can dig up any useful information.

========================================

Hope the above info helps?

winston
Hi, here is some information I received from my sister that help both your family and our family in the Toombs search
===================================================

Hi Winston!
