I saw your message on Ancestry, and was wondering what census you found Peter Toot on that said he was from Germany. I find him on a 1850 census in OH living near his son Moses. It says he is born in PA. His son Levi in the 1880 census says his parents are born in PA. My e-mail has changed to lr.salmon@verizon.net

Does any Toot know they originate from the Netherlands?

Dear other Toot family members,

I am Matthijs Toot, I am a Dutch National and interested to find out whether any other Toot Family members know if any of there forefathers came from the Netherlands. We have, I believe, only 8 male Toot family members in the Netherlands, my father Johannes, my brother Marc, his three sons Jakob, Thomas and Bastiaan and my two sons Dirk-Jan and Johannes.

I would appreciate any information on the above requested. I am still living in the Netherlands but now work for the UK Government and I am stationed in Kandahar where I am embedded in the US Provincial Reconstruction Team.

I am trying to find a link between my Heisey/Meyers family family and these family names. I have a document from my grandfather that refers to a Dauphin Co. Centenarian pamphlet found in an old Heisey/Meyers family Bible. On it is written "compliments of E. W. Parthemore". My grandfather wrote a paragraph that is incoherent due to missing words. He mentions Margaret (Peggy) and Leah Cassell and says their father is George Cassell. Then he writes that David Cassell married Sarah Toot, daughter of David Toot who was born in 1726 in Germany and came to America with his father, Jonas Toot, when he was 15. I believe George and David Cassell are the same person. The Parthemore connection would be George, brother of Sarah, married to Eve Parthemore. My grandfather wrote that that he believed that there was a connection to our family, but did not know what. The Heiseys came from Dauphin Co. as well and Mary Heisey Meyers parents were John Heisey and Mariah Hoover. I have not been able to trace the Meyers family at all, but i have found some farfetched Cassel/Meyer links. Sorry, I dont have anymore information on her except her birthday listed as March 20 1804 and death as August 10 1825.
I wish I could be of more help. I have been to the local L.D.S
Library and I do know that there is a book on Halifax County Virginia. Most of the Toot family is listed there the only problem I found was, during translation of the records the name Toot was sometimes listed as Root. That can throw a spin on to finding some of the Toot ancestors.
I am sorry I couldnt be of more help.

Kim, the data on Adam & Sarah Toot that you cited was published on 12 June 1970 by Dorothy Ford Wulfeck, Genealogy Editor for the "Genealogy" column in The Virginia Gazette, a newspaper from Williamsburg. It is a part of the record of the Bible belonging to Robertson Owen, in the collection of the Virginia State Library in Richmond. A transcript was made in 1948 by Mrs. Berryman Green, of South Boston, VA. She has Sarah's death as occuring on 11 JAN. 1835, as opposed to June, and I would guess that that is a matter of handwriting interpretation. Other names and dates are: William G. Toot (20 June 1799 - 26 Nov. 1816), Eliza M. Toot (b. 26 Nov. 1800), and Nancy Toot (b. 20 March 1804). There is also a notation that Amanda M.F. Toot married Wm. O. Bouldin in 1842, and (separately) that William E. Bouldin (Is this the same person?) died 27 July 1846. There is no obvious tie between the Toot data and the Owen family data.

I noticed that your list of Toots included an Eliza. LDS records show an Elizabeth Toot married a George Wickert, and had a dau., Florentine Weikert, b. abt. 1863, in Trumbull Co. Ohio. Family records have George Washington Weikart or Weikert, b.18 June 1842, married Elizabeth Foot, 29 Mar 1866?. I think the correct info is that George Washington Weike/a/rt married Elizabeth Toot sometime between 1862 and 1866, and the marriage and Florentine's birth occurred in Mahoning, not Trumbull, County, Ohio. Mahoning Co. was formed from Trumbull and Columbiana Counties in 1846. There is still the village of Toots Corners, near Canfield, Oh. It is now in Mahoning Co., but was originally in Trumbull. I only have infomation on the Toot line in Virginia.
I do have information that the Toot line I have came from P.A.
to Virginia. Originally coming from Germany.
I dont see Mitilda listing in the information I have.
Since your unsure on her birthplace. I would suggest that you try Pennsylvania. Also try usgenweb, click on the states page and then click on Pennsylvania. Try searching her name.
Or just try the name, Toot.
This should return some results. I wish I could be of more help.

I hope this helps, I dont know if this is the same person. The family line I have is from Halifax county Virginia.
I do know that the Toot family I am researching is from PA. I have found that they were from Germany.
