No these two were not part of the seven brothers, that the Townsend book talks about. There is somewhere something that I came across that talked about the other townsends saying that our Wm & John were distinct cousins who they heard about but never knew. It is my understanding that these other townsends came from Florida and were decendents of Light. I feel that our Townsends ancestor are most likely from the GA brother that stayed while the rest went onto Florida. I have tried to locate the Marboro townsends to see what I could find and I find nothing. Fustrating isnt it. I live in MT and probually never get to TX to research this line. I keep hoping i come across someone whe is able to look into the Tx records. I know there is alot info in boxes. I really thing the key is there, I wish it published on line. Yes Wm did build the Stage coach stop. His brother John was there too and at some point was part owner, but then left the area. I dont know if there was a falling out or what. I would love to share info on our decendents if you want, and would like to include yours in ours. my personal email is familylines@q.com. I work so time is limited but can block out some time to gather info if you like.

Hi Susan. I am frustrated too! My husband's ancestor John Bennett Townsend, Minerva's brother, was in the Civil War. Brother James was killed in the Civil War. He moved to Arizona in the 1860's and was a rather famous Indian fighter. He was killed by the Indians in 1873 near Dripping Springs, Arizona. He had several children, and we are descended from Ora Townsend French, his daughter. I think that we are in the Light Townsend line too, but cannot get a clear tie. I have found various family lines on Ancestry.com that list his father as William or Thomas, with no documentary support. Rice University has archives on the family and someday I would like to look at them some day. Boxes and boxes of documents. The stage coach stop was called Round Top at one time and there is a lot of history on that. Supposedly William S. Townsend built it. It is still a historic site. Do you know whether William S. Townsend was one of the "Seven Townsend Brothers?"

my husbands ancester is Minerva Townsend who married William A Davis, daughter of Wm. S. I have been looking for twenty years and know nothing more than I listed. All I know is that they had a stage coach stop in Fayette TX (I believe that was the town) I know Wm & wife died young as some of the younger children were then raised by Jesse Burnham. Minerva being one of them. Funny cant find much about her husband wm Davis prior to the marriage. Any way all i know is that Wm & John were from either GA or Marboro, SC. I could never connect them to SC. Tried talking to the "townsend family" that had the other townsends from Florida settle in TX near our townsends. They said they have no info on ours. The book Seven Brothers, a autobiography on these townsends really has no information on our two brothers. I would love to hear the info you have collected/found.

apparently the townsends in Marboro SC- some sons moved to GA, one stayed and rest moved onto Florida. But Fla Townsend decendent I talked to had only a story of one staying in GA but no info.

It would be really nice to resolve our connection to the Light Townsend line. I believe we are on that line, but dont know who out of Marlboro SC to connect to.

Your thoughts are so welcomed.

Are you still looking for info re Hannah Townsend and Nicholas Randall? I have a copy of their Quaker marriage cert from Byberry (microfilm print) and an extract of her father (Thomas Townsend)'s will. The History of Byberry and Moreland also lists children of Thomas Townsend and Elizabeth Thomas (her parents). Pennyslvania Births Montgomery County lists the births of the Thomas Townsend and ELizabeth Thomas children.

I am looking for a marriage certificate for Thomas Townsend and Elizabeth Thomas.

I am also searching for a will, land deed or other proof that Nicholas Randall (the father of the Nicholas Randall who married Hannah Townsend) was alive in 1781/2/3. History of Byberry and Moreland places his death in 1783 but I am looking for a source document. Thanks!

Trying to locate Townsend of Clay County, MS

I am looking for my grandmother Connie Townsend relatives. Connie was an only child and was born in 1898 to Silas & Hatti (or Harriett) in Clay Country, Mississippi. Connie married Walter Ford and moved to Widener, Arkansas and later moved to St. Louis, MO. At one point Clay County was broken in several small counties but I am unsure when these counties merged as one. I believe Clay County is now Westpoint, MS. My great grandfather Silas remarried but I am unsure of her name nor when he remarried. I would guess he remarried around the late 1920’s or early 1930’s. Silas was born in Clay County, MS and 7th child of 8 children. Below are the names of Silas parents and siblings.
Father - John Townsend 1838, Mom - Rosettia Townsend 1847, siblings John Townsend 1868, Louisia Townsend 1870, George Townsend 1872, Anderson Townsend 1874, Virgie Townsend 1875, Eliza Townsend 1877, Silas Townsend 1878, William Townsend 1880.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated. I would love to contact relatives who live in MS presently.
I'm trying to find out if the Edna C V Smith I'm researching is the same Edna C V Smith who married Kenneth R Townsend in Gloucester City, England in 1942. Edna C V Townsend was born Sept 30, 1919 and died in 1990 in Staffordshire. Kenneth was born in Feb 2, 1920 and died in 1989 in Staffordshire. The marriage record shows that Edna's birth name was Smith. I am trying to find out if she is the same Edna C V Smith who was born in 1919 in Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales to parents George Smith and Annie Melhuish. Annie Melhuish died in 1923, so if this is the same Edna Smith, I'm also wondering who raised her.

The long vigil at the bedside of Mrs. Sybil Ann Townsend was ended early Saturday morning when she answered the final summons at her Market street home (Zanesville, Ohio) after a critical illness since last Monday of diabetes.

Mrs. Townsend, aged 74, the wife of Thomas B. In the old missionary society of the Second Street M. E. church, later the Grace M. E. church, she took a prominent part and on the building of the new church, she continued her interest as long as health would permit.
The funeral will be conducted at 9 o'clock in the family home on Market street.
The services will be in charge of Dr. A.
Dont know if your still looking, but I have been doing some research to find my biological family and I came across an Arthur Townsend. Father to Ernest Townsend, Grandfather to Donald Townsend and Great-grandfather to my father David Townsend....which would make him my great-great grandfather... I think. :)

my e-mail is jemstn05@yahoo.com

YES IT IS THE CORRECT LINE AND I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET "MOST" OF THE BOOK. PAGES 19 THROUGH 32 ARE MISSING :-) BUT I AM WORKING ON GETTING THEM.

IF YOU HAVE LOOKED AT MY TREE YOU KNOW I AM CONNECTED TO THE TOWNSENDS THROUGH BUSH, WHISMAN, SPENCER AND WHO KNOW'S WHO ELSE LOL. OUR ANCESTERS WERE A VERY "CLOSE" FAMILY AND WE COME FROM GOOD STOCK.

I STARTED WORKING ON GEN IN LATE 60'S OR EARLY 70'S AND HAD TO GO TO THE LIBRARY AND RESEARCH BOOKS AND MICRO FILM. TOOK A LOT OF TIME BUT SO WORTH IT.

A FEW YEARS AGO I GOT UPSET WITH THE FACT I HAD SO MANY TREES ON ANCESTRY. EVERY TIME I ADDED SOMETHING NEW A NEW TREE WOULD APPEAR !!! I DECIDED TO TRY TO CLEAN UP THE FOREST OF TREES I HAD SO I BEGAN BY DELETING ONE TREE THINKING IT WOULD ONLY CLEAR ONE. IT CLEARED EVERYTHING I HAD!!! TOOK ME A FEW YEARS TO GET OVER IT SO I AM NOW REBUILDING BUT HAVE LOST SOME OF MY INFO IN A BAD DIVORCE WITH A MAN WHO DESTROYED A LOT OF MY PERSONAL PAPERS. IF YOU EVER SEE ANYTHING YOU NEED IN MY FILES AND PICS I WILL GLADLY SHARE.

Looks like a lot of them were from Bath Co. VA. Thomas Ira was born there. Grandpa Shirley was born near Iconium, Appanoose Co. IA where Davis and some of his siblings settled around 1863,
One of my first cousins said Grandpa told him they were Kentuckians. I don't know where that came in as near as I can determine they came straight from VA during the Civil War.
Pat

Brenice Townsend Smith 1926-2012 b. Marion, Ohio

MOUNT GILEAD: Brenice Dawn Smith, age 85, of Mount Gilead, Ohio departed from this life on Thursday morning, March 15, 2012, at her residence.

On October 12, 1926, Brenice was born in Marion, Ohio, one of seven children of the late Frank Edward and Virtie I. (Sharp) Townsend.
As a child, her father used to lovingly refer to her as his "Lady Bug".

On her parents' anniversary, Christmas Day of 1943, Brenice married Lewis Wilson Smith, at her home surrounded by her family. Together they shared over sixty-three years of marriage. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2007.

A loving homemaker, Brenice stayed home with her family until her children were older. She then went to work with the United Telephone Company. Years later as their General Chief Operator, she placed the last call and retired on the day the Mt. Gilead office closed. Not quite ready to stay retired, she worked at the Morrow Manor Nursing Home in Chesterville, where she cooked breakfast and started the resident's day with her pleasant manner.

Bernice was a member of the Mt. Gilead First Baptist Church.
She was a dedicated volunteer for Hospice of Morrow County from the first volunteer class until she was no longer able in 2008.
She also was a member of the Morrow County Conservation Club, where she served several years as the Morrow County License Agent for the Division of Wildlife hunting and fishing licenses, she volunteered her time for many festivals and events at Mt. Gilead State Park and was a past member and treasurer for the Morrow County Pork Producers.

Brenice was dedicated to her entire family. She was known to some of her family as Manny, a second mother to some, Aunt Mannie, and always some one who was there for all of them. She lovingly welcomed many to spend time in her home over the years with her and Lewis on the farm.

A very creative and talented woman, Brenice could play the piano and sing, make wedding cakes and wedding gowns and could sew anything into something beautiful. She could even make a dress for her daughters simply by seeing a picture of it.

She was known as "one of the best cooks in the county and she was so neat and organized that she could prepare a meal for 30 people and not make a mess." Lewis always had willing helpers during crop season so they could eat a meal at her table.

Despite being a very "gentle woman", Brenice was also a "quiet warrior" working diligently to be a loving example and help make the lives of everyone around her better, and never wanting to be up front for any praise or credit.

She will be dearly missed by her two beloved daughters: Linda K. (Charles) Denman, and Vickie D. (Michael) McKinney, both of Mount Gilead, OH; a special niece, Terry Arthur of Marion, Ohio; six grandchildren: Christina Webb, Beth Kuhn, Kathy (Jeremy) Swartz, Mathew (Jennifer) Denman, Michele (Doug) Gruber, and Michael A. (Brandy) McKinney; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 Great-Great Grandchild; 1brother: Rev. Jack (Marie) Townsend; 2sisters: Jeneane Lucille (Frank) Jackson, Green Camp; Patricia LuSina Monroe, Columbus, Ohio; nieces and nephews and friends.

Including her husband Lewis and parents, Brenice was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Patricia Dawn Smith; Brothers and Sisters- In-Laws Frank Edward and Dorothy Townsend, Lloyd Daniel and Mary Ellen Townsend and Sister, Leora M. Cornelius.

Brenice was blessed to be able to finish her earthly life in her own home of over 65 years. This was possible by the loving live in care from her Grandchildren Kathy and Jeremy Schwartz and their children, Bryanna and Jordon, her daughters and son-in-laws and Terry, Home Health and Hospice. Your loving kindness and giving spirits will never be forgotten.

Her family will greet friends from 3 - 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.
Services honoring and celebrating her life well lived will also be held there on Monday at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Kelly Melvin and her Brother Rev. Jack Townsend officiating.
Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.

Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead is honored to have been chosen to serve Brenice's family, and your condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.

Morrow

I have tried to find my 3g grandfather's parents for so long, and am really interested to see if John's daughter Mary, married a Damon Sylvester in 1803. There is a marriage index that says a Polly Townsend married Damon Sylvester.

Thank you for your post. It gives me hope.

Cindy

Re: John Townsend b.1758 of Westmoreland, Oneida New York

I am the historian for the Town of Westmoreland and am trying to put a book together on our early settlers and Revolutionary Veterans. Today I am working on John Townsend, Revolutionary veteran. I do not have John's children, but will keep you in mind when I find something. I hope to get to Utica to look up some of these names to see where they originally lived in the Town. Also plan on checking Surrogate's Court. I have not checked, but the way your inquiry is worded that the Townsends may have moved to Cazenovia.
Nancy

I don't have much on my granddad, Shirley Westbrook Townsend's family. His father b 1was Thomas Ira, then Davis Townsend b VA, Wm. b 1792/8 VA, Solomon Townsend. All but the most recent information from Davis to the present is someone else's work so I can't vouch for it.
Hope you'll be able to reconstruct at least the lineage. Good luck.

Hi, Pat - I am a descendent of Thomas Townsend and Mary Hastings Townsend through their son Elisha, and his wife Margaret Dickey. Elisha died during the Civil War, and Margaret remarried soon after, to Elisha's brother Isaac.

I am looking for the death information and burial of Thomas and Mary Townsend I see in your message from a few years ago, you too were looking for this information. Have you found anything regarding Thomas and Mary Townsend? Are you a descendant of Thomas and Mary's son James?
Thanks. Kim Townsend Spangrude
