They could not have come to La. in that year. My grandfather is from that line and was born in Germany in 1852. Therefore
they had to come later than 1844.
I am trying to find out which ship they came on and the exact year. I am having no luck at all. If any one knows please answer.
I have traced my line back to 1618 but still need some answers.

my husband is related to you (me by marriage:) My father in law traced his Trauth line all the way back to 1630. The Family line that he is descended from is Ignatius Trauth & Anna Maria Dorzapf--their children are Maximillian, Jacob, George, Louis, Anna Maria, John & Elisabeth and then they go on to have many children from their which is where everybody else comes in :)

I find it all so fasinating and a little confusing.

Our grandfather George A. Hesse married Leotha Trauth in 1914 in Louisiana. I am trying to find info about the Trauth family. I found Leotha listed as a child on the 1900 census in Jefferson, Louisiana. Her father is Ignatius Louis Trauth born 1873. If anyone has this family listed on their genealogy please email me ---snowjohnson@sbcglobal.net. Thank you.

Hi all,

I am a Trauth from New Orleans. I'm still trying to make all of the exact connections, but it is pretty clear that Herxheim, Germany is the original home of the Trauths.

In addition, to answer Jack, I do speak German from having studied there. Let me know how I can help out.

Brian

Hi Jack,
Thanks for the response. I do not think my husband and I would be able to commit to a family reunion in Germany right now either. My husband is in the Air Force and we are going to be moving to Japan soon. So, a trip at the present time would not be able to happen. Although, we are hoping that after our Japan assignment we get to move to an assignment in Germany.
As for the ancestor's I am still searching for the vicinity they lived in, in Germany. So, far all I have is, when they came to the United States, many were in the vicinity of Kentucky and I think Illinois. Many were farmers and that is all. What I am trying to do now, is search through old photo albums to gather names and dates. I have photos back to the 1880's and school certificates, etc. And a picture of my husbands great great grandfather Trauth. Richard L. Trauth's grandfather. Richard is still alive and he is able to go through the pictures and describe who is who, but he has on and off days, so getting information is hard. But I am determined, to bring back this lost ancestory.
I will speak to you soon.
Much Regard, Nicole Trauth

Hi Nicole,

The surname boards were in transition when I originally posted the message. From what I have seen on this board and elsewhere, there was a major cluster of Trauths in the Herxheim vicinity. That was the home of Paul Trauth's ancestors. (Mine immigrated from Kleinfischlingen which is nearby.) I am hoping that Paul can give us some research guidance.

Paul is interested in having a reunion of sorts at a castle that was owned by Trauth ancestors. It sounds interesting but I am not ready to commit it at present.

Do any board subscribers speak german? I would be happy to put Paul in touch with you directly.

--Jack

Hello Steve,
This is in reference to your posting of Aug 2, 2001. Is your Karl Trauth the Charles Trauth who was a barber in Chicago in the late 1800's? I have seen such a person listed on city directories of the day.
I have also seen reference to the marriage of Charles Trauth and Katie Moschel August 29, 1889 in Chicago. Is he also the same person?
I had a Charles Trauth in the Chicago area early in the 20th century. I have wondered for some time if he could have gone there because of relatives in the area.
Please let me know if there is a possible connection.

I am descended from Eva Trauth who married Joannes Gruber in Herxheim, Pfalz in 1811 (he is from Essingen, so maybe she is from Herxheim?) Their daughter Barbara Gruber married in Louisville KY in 1850.. (Am trying to tie her to Adam Gruber, my ancestor from Louisville..) I think they may be related to the Perry Co. MO Grubers, also from Essingen... Any idea if anyone has data on the Herxheim Trauths? I would love to find Evas' parents.

I have a Mathaus Trauth in my line who was married to Margaretha Eichenlaub in Herxheim in 1773. Their daughter Maria Eva Trauth married Joannes Gruber in 1811. I don't know when they immigrated, but Barbara Gruber (their daughter) was married in Louisville KY in 1850. I suspect they came thru Louisiana, but havn' been able to nail it down. Mathaus Trauths father (acc. to LDS site) was James Mathaus, his father was Hans, and his father was Heinrich or Peter, b. abt. 1600. Does anyone know if this is the same group as yours in LA?

No, I am not the one who called your Mom Linda on the phone, their is evidently another Steve Trauth, because I keep getting his messages from Ancestry.com. I did have a few messages under Vickie Trauth (my wife), she has been doing the research on my side. Most of my relatives, came to New Orleans, then to the Norther Kentucky area and Cincinnati, Ohio. My Grandfathers name was Louis Jacob Trauth, who married Clara Josephine Stephany.

This question is to Steve, were you the one who called my mom, Linda Trauth? Someone called my mom and talked to her about our family name. She lost the email address the person on the phone gave to her. Just curious. So far as I can tell is that part of my family on my grand dad's side if originally from Minnesota, before that, I do not really have an idea. I will write back later. There is some info I need to get from my parents.

This is mostly for Opal -as I emailed you a few seconds ago, Jack; I have information that I had a relative that was born in 1797, in what was listed as Offenbach , Kreis Landau, i.d. Pfalz.

His name was Heinrich Trauth -his father's name was Peter Trauth (who died in 1806, at the age of 30) now Peter was a Landwirt (farmer) -and most likely did not live in a town.

The interesting thing is that the towns of Herxheim and Offenbach are seperated by approximately 3 miles.

I plan on formatting the tables that I have in to an Excel spreadsheet -and posting them either somewhere on the web, or having them available to email out upon request.

My side of the Trauth's ultimately wound up in Ixheim until they moved over to the US -apparently Jack's Charles and Katie were next door neoghbors in Ixheim, both wound up in America -and -the indeed married in Chicago. I guess that explained some of the barber items that we found when my grandmother passed away in 1981.

Wow, I was a little shocked that I got replies so soon. :)

1st off, due to school work I have not had time to dig the German geneology stuff out. (It is buried somewhere). But I will try to make a point of doing that when I get some time off. The emigree that left Germany was part of a pretty large family.

2ndly, strangely enough a few years ago I became aware of a family that was living in the Chicago area that seemed to be un-related to my own; a little bit of research that I cam across said that this "Trauth" family was from the mountain area of what is now Slovenia. As far as I could tell this person immigrated from what was then, Yugolslavia.

3rdly: I know there are some Chalres' in the family tree; my father had an Uncle Charles that moved up to Siren Wisconsin to farm (he recently passed on within the last 5 years). However, from what I know of our family, I do not believe that any direct German descendent would have anglicized his first name (after all we kept the "h" :) )

Will ask my father if he knows of anyone in the family being a barber.

Ironically, there is a Moeschel (o with the umlaut) in the family tree, however I recall it from the family tree that I had -of some relative that was married in Germanyin Germany. I really need to dig this up, as there was a wealthof names on that list; along with occupations where known, marriage, and death dates. Unfortunately I do not believe it goesd much farther back than the late 1700's.... and the info there was pretty sketchy at best.

The one thing I can tell you is that the majority of the "Trauth's" that I am related too were from the general Rhineland area, and possibly Elsass as well; I know not much to go on.

Hi guys: Am very new to this, but there is a fairly large contingent of us from the Chicagoland area.

I have to dig for the geneology that my Uncle -William -of LAke Geneva got when he visted his son in the Army over in Germany in the late 70's -ths thing was fairly well documented, and went back to the late 1700's in some cases.

I believe my ancestor that immigrated was named Karl -and he came over (I think) about 1850 or so).

My ancestors were from a little town known as Ixheim, in what is now Rheinland-Pfalz. The town has since been incorporated into Zweibruecken. Apparently the family is fairly well known there as the archive-keeper apparently knew of the family -and we still had relatives in town. Luckily for my Uncle his daughter in law is a German...

Mary, I am researching the same Trauth line. According to Opal (you will see our correspondence at the bottom of the message board) I am also a descendant of Ignatius. My grandmother, Elsie, daughter of John, son of Jacob is the son of Ignatious. The only thing I have verified is my grandmother and great-grandfather - who's names I got from my mother. I have tried to get in touch with Opal several times, but I haven't had any luck. It seems she already has quite a bit of research done. If you have any information to share I would be grateful.
I just found this board and this is great. I'm part of the New Orleans (esp Algiers/Gretna) Trauths - my grandfather was Joseph Xavier - and I believe his father was Ignatius (I know he had a brother by that name, he was one of something like 14; there were Royce and Vincent, Annie, and others I can't remember right now). I have more info somewhere, and my uncle has been trying to trace things back - but it's been a while since I've looked. Anyway - if any of this sound familiar - I'd love to hear from you!
