Mary treadwell married Frank Symonds in Malling Kent in 1880 therefore assuming she hailed from that county as Frank was from Sussex, later moving across the border into Hampshire. On the 1891 census it gives Frank & (a) Mary which says she is from Havant. There are many inaccurate details so I THINK this is Mary(nee) Treadwell who had children Thomas,Walter,Frank & Annie & were living in Waterlooville Hants. at that time. Can anyone confirm that this is correct?

I'm looking for any information about William Treadwell. I know that he was born in England about 1849. He died in Philadelphia 17 December 1913. He may have been married to Annie Gray. He is buried in Oakland Cemetery in Philadelphia. I have found him on the 1900 and 1910 census but know very little about him. If this sounds familiar to anyone I'd love to hear from you. Thanks so much!

Francis Treadwell Champney

Hi all,

I am trying to find some information on my 3rd great grand uncle, Francis Treadwell Champney, born 8 Apr 1833 and died 10 Jan 1918. I know quite a bit about his father's family, but very little about his mother's family. Since I cannot find any connection to the Treadwells on his father's side, I'm wondering if his mother may be connected to the Treadwells in some way. It seems unusual for this family not to use a family name for their second son's middle name.

His mother is named Mary Turpin Tayler. She was born 15 Sep 1810 and she died 11 Jan 1847. She was born in Philadelphia, but had moved to Brooklyn, New York, by the time she married Samuel Trowbridge Champney in 1827. They continued to live in Brooklyn. Francis ends up moving to Vermillion, Ohio.

In the 1850 census, there are Treadwells listed on the same page as the Champneys.

I would appreciate any information you may have about a connection between the Treadwell family and this family.

Thank you!
Kristen

Hello everyone! Im am trying to find my family members. My grandfather's name is Leslie Treadwell, his father's name is Harry Treadwell. Harry Treadwell was african american, but he was of light complexion. Harry had a sister named Molly Treadwell. Harry married a woman named Florence Howell, and they had 6 children: Leslie, Peter, Joe, Irene, Maggie and Totsi Lee. My great-grandfather was killed and his body was thrown in Bayou Bartholomew and labled as an accidental drowning. He was killed because many thought he was Caucasian and many that he was involved with a black woman. When in reality he was african american just of light complexion. Is there anyone out there that can help me find my family?

Samuel was also "old school" anti-Catholic, and by his fiat kept daughter Gertrude from marrying the man she loved: the Roman Catholic, Lewis Walton. Nobody knows what happened to Walton, he was a name simply written out of history. We all know what happened to Gertrude, she became a recluse and lived into the New Deal, shuttered in a mausoleum (The Old Merchant's House) on E. 4th St., purchased by her imperious father.

I'm so glad you saw my post!
This is a real breakthrough for me, just to have heard from someone that is familiar with the family.

Charlotte (Lotty) Treadwell Reynolds is Lucy U Treadwell's sister. My records show that their father Grandison was married to "Eliza Payne" who may be the Elizabeth you mention. This must be his first wife as Charlotte and Lucy were born in the 1820s whereas Mary was born in 1846. She, William and John were listed on the 1860 Census with Grandison as father and Ruth as mother.

I have more information about Lucy and Charlotte which I'll send in a separate message to your user name.

Thanks!
If anyone else is familiar with this family please post and Ill be happy to share what I have.

Grandison is my ggg-grandfather and was born May of 1804. He was married to an Elizabeth, who died in 1844. And he was also married to Ruth Ann, who died in 1869.

Grandison's children: (not sure who the mother was for each child)

Samuel
Oliver Wolcott
Mary Ann
John Liman
William

With the info I have, it was hard to figure out how some people were related. I do have a Lucy U. Treadwell b 22 Dec 1829 who married Edward Simms and had a Lucy and Charlotte. But my info didn't show who her parents were.

But, I also have Charlotte Reynolds with a son named Hiram O. Reynolds and no spouse info. Charlotte was referred to as "Lottie" and was the aunt of my great-grandmother Laura Treadwell Broadbrook, but we were never sure how she was her aunt. We have a birthday card from 1869 that was to my great-grandmother Laura from Aunt Lottie Reynolds. Charlotte Reynolds is buried in Park Cemetery in Bridgeport, CT.

So, I hope this helps somewhat, even though my info is a little mixed up.
