Barbara

Harry was my grandfather (Charles Forster Treeby)'s brother and no, he didn't marry. Their sister Jessie also remained single.

I have just found a reference to a burial in Dubin that I thought you might be interested in: (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/reels/d-117-4-1-066.p...) which shows a Henry Treeby dying in Dublin in 1837 of "inflammation". I wonder whether this is our elusive Henry. Cow Parlour where he lived is not far from Dolphus Barn which is mentioned in Josiah's letter. How sad if this is our Henry as his youngest daughter Elizabeth was born just under 9 months later.

regards
Nicky

I found that his name was Josiah. And his brother was
Harry or Henry. Henry has family still in the England.
I can send this to you.
It appears that the father's name was Henry. He died in
Dublin. He was an Inland revenue man, like Josiah.
Josiah took a test in Plymouth for the job.
Henry Christopher Treeby born 1827 was md to Lydia
Morris. She is buried in Liverpool(1872). I don't have his
death date.
I did find a marriage of a Josiah Treeby in 1853 to a
widow, Hephzibal Hewitt Cussly, dau of Samuel Revell.
So it is possible that Josiah was killed on the job,
this is as far as I could locate material on him.
I can send what I have to you.
Our family has always maintained that Joseph was murdered while he was in Ireland. In some papers my Grandfather left me after he died it says

"Joseph,An excise officer(tax collector?) In the paper mills of Dublin Ireland was murdered on the Job.His Widow and 5 children were coming to the USA with Joseph's brother Harry and Harry's Family, when their ship was lost at sea" I have never been given any other proof of this other than family telling it and what is written on this paper. Maybe you could tell me if it's true or not.??

William Treeby - Abt 1833 Stoke, Devon, England to Australia

William John Treeby born in Stoke about 1833
Father probably had exactly same name as his name was put down as John and William (William John?). His mother was Grace Dunn.
William married in Creswick, Victoria, Australia in 1871.
Amelia Preedy was born in 1852 at Yeovil, Somerset.
They had 11 children all born in Creswick, Victoria, Australia.

I wondered if William had married before but I don't know. When I went into Family Search and typed Grace Treeby I found out that she was alive in the 1881 Census. The information that I got was Grace Treeby was born abt 1796 Tavistock, Devon. She was 85 and a widow in the 1881 Census. The dwelling was 57 Duke Street and Census - Stoke Damerel, Devon.
William John Treeby was born in Stoke so the only move I know that he made was to Australia.
I have never been able to find a Grace Dunn marrying William Treeby.
(Hopefully Barbara Cady will find this).
My great-grandfather Harry Josiah Treeby was born in Liverpool in 1853 - to date I have very little information about his parents and had always believed that they came from Cornwall but cannot make any connection. Harry died on 3rd December 1943 in Blundellands, Liverpool. He married Frances Elizabeth Forster in September 1883 and had four children: Charles (my grandfather), Norman (who died whilst a teenager) Harry who was a merchant seaman and died during the war and Jessie who was unmarried and became a teacher.

Frederick Morris Treeby was born about 1864 in Liverpool.
He likely is the man who died Sept 1916 Toxteth Park.
In June 1891 Liverpool, he married Martha _________
who was born about 1865, died June 1934 Liverpool.
Their children were:
Reginald or Reynolds Butcher Treeby March 1897-26 Nov 1914 on "Bulwork".
Sydney Morris Treeby March 1897.
Frederick William Treeby June 1899.
I got the dates of BDM, do not have records.
Would like to contact anyone related to this family.
What was Martha's maiden name?
Frederick was the son of Henry Christopher Treeby and
Lydia Ann Morris.
I believe that Henry was a brother to my "Treeby Grandfather"
who went the US.
I am not saying that you are wrong about Harry Treeby not being on the 1881 Census but I have found that some of my ancestors known to be alive, haven't been found on the census. It is like they just slipped through the Census and were missed. I sometimes wonder if the ever changed their names.

This seems to have gone from Harry Treeby to William Treeby but the name is unusual and seems to be spelt so many different ways.
I think I have spoken to you before and you helped me somehow but I can't remember how because too many years have gone by. My computer crashed in between and I think that I lost your notes.
My William John Treeby came out to Australia and was born in Stoke, Devonshire in about 1833 also William Brown Treeby came out to Australia about the same time. I think he came from Modbury, Devononshire (I'm not sure). I gather somehow they are related but I don't know how.
I was told by someone who was descended from William Brown Treeby that most of the Treeby family came from Modbury, Devon but I have no idea how to follow all this information up. I can only find William Brown Treeby entering Australia and not mine.
Any suggestions? I have been doing genealogy for over 25 years and this is one of my brick walls that I keep running into.

I have no idea why I never looked there.
1951 Census - would you please look that up for me?
He married in Australia in 1871. Right now I can't remember anything more.
Contact you later.
I can't even sign into this site right now because I forgot the name I used.
There is an address associated with the material in the IGI file
on your family.
Craig Mcorrie 26 Gatehouse Circuit, Werrington Downs, Australia NSW 2747.
I did find your family sheet in the book. You must have written
some time back. There were 11 children for William and
Amelia. I did check my Devon extrations, no Grace.
But will get the cd out tomorrow evening and recheck.
I may have missed her.
It is also possible they moved, and were not in Devon in
1851.
Was William married before? He would have been in his
late 30's then in 1871.

I was just in contact with a family in England who appear to
be related to my group of Treeby's.
The letter I have called the brother Harry, but it appears that
his name was Henry Christopher Treeby; as the name of the
wife is Lydia Ann. The letter states it is Lydia.
Someone has read some material or research the name, as it
appears in the IGI file. Henry was the son of Henry and Elizabeth.
Henry Christopher was chr at Morice street, St. Wesleyan,
Devonport, Devon, England. I could not locate the site,
but likely close to Plymouth.
Is it possible that your man used his second name?
More then likely the problem is the spelling.
I have a large number of Leffley's, Lefley, and Leftley
in Australia. Have not located them either on a ship.
Would very helpful for you to have a 1841 census
index of Devon? Can you find your man in England?
If so, maybe a reading of the parish records might
tell who he is related to. there is an index for 1851.
I do have it for Devon. If your man was there, can
check it, or for anyone in Devonshire.
Likely there is some connection between all the Treeby's
in Devonshire.
Feel free to contact me at home.

It is very possible then, that your Harry was the son of Harry
and his wife. One reason, is his name. It might be just
an accident, but my William did name a child, Herbert Josiah in about 1876.
Is there a family bible? Int he 1852 letter it states that
Henry got a bible in Dublin......so it is possible that Harry and
Henry are the same person. And he may have been in the
military for a time.
He speaks of Plymouth (which is hairs width from Cornwall),
and not being able to go back there.
the address in Dublin was Clayton Park, South Circular Road
as of 15 Sept 1852.
I will send you an email.
I do not have any informatiion on your Treeby.
My Treeby's were from around Plymouth, Devon
befor 1852. Harry remained in Liverpool with his family.
A unmarried son, Joseph was in the military
at Dublin. Siblings: Joseph, William,
Elizabeth, Sarah, Samuel.
I assume that Harry likely was the eldest child. So must
have been born in the late 1820's.
Yes, they are "uncles" and "cousins" off my
Pollard line. My line went to the US.
My line of Treeby's were from near Plymouth,
Devonshire. The mother was Elizabeth, who
died in 1871 in Camp Grove, Ill. The father
was buried in Dublin, Ireland by 1852.
From a letter written by Joseph Treeby from
Dublin, while in the military, to US, he
notes that his brother and family, Harry,
are in Liverpool. Lydia is in the letter,
might be Harry's wife or an unkown sister.
In the US with the widow Treeby were Sarah,
Samuel, Elizabeth, and William. Sarah and
Samuel drowned in the Kickapoo River at
19 and 22. A family member thought that the
fathers name was Christopher and the mothers
maiden name was Wedge...but found nothing
yet to support that. Believe by 1870 Joseph
was in the US.
Treeby family of Ireland and Devonshire

Elizabeth Treeby was buried in 1871 in Camp
Grove, Ill. She came to the US about 1851
With her were:
Samuel age about 22 when he drowned in the
Kickapoo River in 1852 and with him was his
younger sister, Sarah about 19 when she
downed.
At home was "Bill" William Treeby born 1835
Devonshire and Elizabeth born 1837 Plymouth,
Devonshire. An other son, Joseph, was at
Dublin, Ireland guarding grain. The oldest
child named in a letter, was Harry who was
married and lived at Liverpool. His wife
may have been Lydia, maybe another daughter?
William married Elizabeth Graham, and
Elizabeth Treeby married William Jarman, who
was related to Elizabeth Graham on her Bevans
side of the family, being cousins. I believe
that Jospeh left the service, married,
and joined his mother by 1870 in Illinois.
Can anyone tell me more about this family?
Harry Treeby of Liverpool, England in 1852

Harry Treeby was living in Liverpool, England
in 1852, married, and likely had small children.
His brohter was Joseph, a military person
in Dublin. The family at one time was in
Plymouth, Devonshire, England. Did Harry
come to US? Did his family drown at sea?
or did they survive? His mothers name was
Elizabeth. Had brother William, Samuel,
sisters Sarah and Elizabeth.
