During everyones research on the Tremaynes from Cornwall has anyone come across the name Duncalf in any of the documents or wills etc.?
My ancestor Margaret Tremayne married Thomas Duncalf in 1573, St Neot. Thomas Duncalf and Margaret Tremayne had three sons Thomas b.1575, John b. 1578 and William b. 1585. One of these married an Ann who died in 1653 Gunwalloe. What I am trying to work out is which one of these brothers is Ann's husband? Her male children were Henry, William, Oliver, John and Daniel. There are no parish records for this period for Gunwalloe. Thomas and Margaret leased Winnington (Wynnyanton), Gunwalloe from 1585.
Any assistance you can give me would be much appreciated. Thankyou in advance.
Cheers,
Catherine

Hi William,

Although your post is now 9 years old (!) I have quite a bit of information on the Tremayne's, as I am related through his wife Sarah Henrietta Charity Watkins, and have been in close constant contact with a direct descendant of Edward F T. Edward was indeed born in New York, I have a copy of a letter from the parish of which his birth was registered. His parents Edward Sr and Sarah Watkins were married in England, when Sarah was just 15, with her fathers consent however. They immediately sailed for NY where Edward was consequently born not long afterwards. However there is mystery surrounding what happened to Edward Sr - he literally is never heard from again, and Sarah sails back to England, possibly unbeknowningly pregnant with his second child. She meets and marries my ancestor, Robert Howe de Tracy Gould, and so my tree continues.

I am more than happy to share the information I have, and would love to know where your research interests lie, and if you are related.

Thanks
Marie

This is a response for Ann regarding Rev. Francis Tremayne. I am also looking for information as I have just started to research my family history. The Rev. Francis Tremayne is my great-great grandfather on my father's side. One of his daughters, Emily Helen Tremayne (known as Helen) married William Charles Lyall. They had a large family. One of Charles' and Helen's daughters, Margaret Grace Lyall, married George Edward Wardle. Margaret Grace went by her middle name, Grace. She was my grandmother. Her only surviving son George Ashworth Wardle is my father. I have just started looking into my family. I do not have much information as yet, and hope that what I have provided here does not duplicate anything you have learned. I am anxious to find out about the Tremaynes and Lyalls lives while they were in Ontario. I have also started to investigate the Geddes connection.

Hi Sandra,
Thanks for the offer of help. Since posting my message we have filled in much of the Tremayne line that relates to my family. However, we mostly have just names without any details or even spouses, so perhaps you can supply some of that info.
My line comes down from Mary Tremayne(1761) who married William Sampson(1756)in Phillack in 1778.
Don't know much about Michael T (1498) or his father John (1485) and grandfather Ralph (1430), so any details about them would be welcome.
Thanks again
Vic & Linda Bagnelle

How did his body get to Nauvoo. When did he move to Nauvoo? Did he ever live there? Some say he was killed by mobs. Does anyone know the real story?

Are you asking for proof that your info is correct? If so, I would start with its source -- Is is documented by reliable, primary sources? You can't take undocumented info online as proof.

I don't know what records are available for medieval Cornish genealogy/history, but try these three sites:

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Cornwall/#Archives
http://www.medievalgenealogy.org.uk/
http://webs.lanset.com/azazella/cornish_database.html

Also, you'll probably have better luck reposting this message at the Tremayne surname board.

Good luck with your search! It sounds interesting!

TREMAYNE ARMS

Hello everyone,

I am a descendant of PHILLIP TREMAIN born 1697 in Connecticut, who married REBECCA GRANGER, b. Aug. 2, 1697. My great grandmother was ORINDA L. TREMAN, b. June 15, 1834; married ELIJAH A. UPDIKE.

It is not known how my Tremain/Treman family descends from the original Cornwall TREMAYNE family, but I don't think anyone has any doubts about that being the case. The information in "The History of the Treman, Tremain, Truman Family in America" by Treman and Poole (1901) does not make the connection from Phillip to his Cornwall ancestry, and there are other errors in the book as well.

The reason for this post is that I have an accurate copy of the Tremayne arms for free download at my Webshots online albums at: http://community.webshots.com/user/daleupdike Locate the TREMAN FAMILY ALBUM, and it should be the first image you come to. The professional copy I had made many years ago had an error (one of the hands was a left hand - they are all supposed to be right hands). I fixed that, improved the name, and the motto in the ribbon. It is large enough that it prints very well. Help yourselves!

Dale A. Updike
North Battleford,
Saskatchewan, Canada
EMAIL: updike@sasktel.net
I found this old link - you will probably already know this. Fanny Tremayne had a tin mine in Cornwall. Many years later, my ex-husband's ancestor who was called Richardson, deserted from the army and called himself Smith. When his son was born he wanted to bring a family name back, so brought in the Tremayne (to whom there was a link in some way). Hence Tremayne-Smith. My husband was christened Richard, to bring back the Richardson side. His mother's maiden name was Rosewall (they were distantly related to Ken the tennis player)
My children, (now grown up) are David, Emma and Andrew Tremayne-Smith, and we have 2 grandchildren to date, George and Olivia, both Tremayne-Smith.

Evelyn:
I came across your message on Ancestry.Com, and had just read something about Les Tremayne in my local paper, dated december 26, 2003.

The article is as follows:

Les Tremayne, 90, Radio Hall of Famer

The Associated Press

Santa Monica, CA - Les Tremayne, an English-born actor considered to have one of the best-known voices of radio's golden age, died December 19, his family said. He was 90.

Tremayne, who on 1995 was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame, died at St. John's Health Center, his wife, Joan, said Monday.

The cause of death was not immediately released.

Tremayne played the lead in radio series including "The Falcon," "The Adventures of the Thin Man" (as Nick Charles), and "One Man's Family."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is not a relative of mine, just thought this info could lead you in the right direction for more data.

Happy hunting,
Kathryn

I am also working on the PIERCE/PEARCE/PEARSE/de PERS and PERCY lines as well as TREMAYNE/TREMAINE and CAREW. These three families interconnect through-out the 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th centuries in the UK and all appear to have originated in Normandy. I began working on these lines together with a close friend, and what turns out to be a cousin, named Tremayne, also of Essex. I believe he contacted you with regards to your post. We have compiled a great deal of data in our research into our genealogical connections to each other through trunk lines and collateral lines. While we have connections to Tremayn and to Pierce in Cornwall we have not yet found a PIERCE/TREMAYNE connection or marriage. We believe this connection may be the missing link we are ;looking for to bring our trunk lines closer together with yet another common ancestor. If you have any clues as to the connection you have posted we would be interested in learning about it as we are trying to bring our trunk lines as close together as possible. Thank you.

I'm not sure how the connection name came about. To the best of my knowledge, my grandfather's mother was a Wills, and father was a Pearse. Do you have any information on this connection? I think your friend/cousin could be related in some distant fashion to me in some way, too.
