Dear William;

I am interested in the info you have on the Trim(m) family. I have been researching this line for about 20 years. I have come across the info you have on Benjamin being held captive in Quebec when I first started. Unfortunately, since I was just starting, I wasn't very good at sourcing.

I have info that Benjamin had a son named Benjamin, b. abt 1755 in RI; d. Addison, NY abt 1830.

IF my info is correct, I am a direct descendent of these Benjamins.

Regards; Linda Trimm Piker

Mary Trim, Isaac Turner, Stephen Carlisle

I am looking for the ancestors of Mary Trim. According to several undocumented sources, she was born on 20 Jul 1776, on Block Island, Rhode Island, the daughter of Godfrey and Mary (Rose) Trim, and is variously named Mary L. Trim or Mary Rose Trim. Mary married Stephen Carlisle on 11 July 1820, in Penobscot, Maine, named on intention records as Mrs. Mary Turner. The undocumented sources state that she first married Isaac Turner, who died in 1807. She does not appear in the "History of Islesboro, Maine" as a daughter of Godfrey Trim, and in that book, another daughter, Desire Trim is said to have married Isaac Turner, but I have read several accounts that indicate that Desire married Sargent Towle, not Isaac Turner. There are so many conflicting stories.

It seems that there were several Desire Trims. My third great-grandmother was born on BLock Island in the town of New Shoreham in 1781. There was a daughter of Godfrey Trim and his wife Mary Rose by that name, but she supposedly drowned at the age of 17. One researcher I met on Block Island named Bob said that it probably was her sister who died and not her, but I think they had different birth dates. My Desire Trim had a daughter named Deborah before she married Sargent Towle in Oak Bay, Charlotte, New Brunswick. Her parents had moved with her to Islesboro, Maine from Rhode Island and that is where she was prior to going to New Brunswick. My great-grandmother was a beautiful blue-eyed blond woman ( I have her photos) who was
named Isabella Desire Towle; she had an identical twin sister named Ruby and twins ran in the family all the way back to Rhode Island times.

Most of the Trims in Islesboro, Maine and vicinity came from
Rhode Island and were also descended from Valentine Trim,
the English sea captain of the HMS Samaritan.

Thanks for writing. I wish you the best of luck with looking for your family.

Hi,
I am hoping you can help me. I am a descendant of John Trim (GG Granddaughter) born around 1816 possibly Bristol or Somerset, could be Dorset? He was convicted in Somerset County Asizes transported to NSW for a term of 14 years in 1837. I would like to find information on his parents and siblings. There is nothing on his records or marriage records naming his parents. Do you have any information on this man?

In 1860 Hiram P. Trim, age 44, master mariner, born Isleboro, Maine, was living with his wife Mary Ellen (Cutter) and four of their seven children in Scituate, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. Mary Ellen's name was entered as Eleanor on this census but her death record gives the name as first stated. She died in Scituate 7 Sep 1896.

One of Scituate's historic sites was the home of Hiram's grandson, Percy Thomas Mann (1875-1968). Percy was the son of Thomas (1795-1882) and Martha Emma (Trim) (1842-aft1930) Mann.
http://www.scituatehistoricalsociety.org/sites_mann.html

I'm hoping someone can fill me in on some of the little known facts about Hiram - was he a ship's captain? I am aware of his Maine/RI ancestry through the great research done by Mrs. Mahlmeister and all of you!

Betty

Hi Allison

I'm a Trim and have been tracing my family tree for a little while.

Mine goes back to a convict John Trim who was transported to Australia in 1837 aboard the "Charles Kerr" from Bristol. He later settled in Armidale where he became Mayor. My line is from his eldest child, Henry William Trim (b. 1845) and his son Eugene Reginald Trim.

The dates don't look as though there is a connection unless it is further back in England.

I have had no luck tracing John past his sentencing in Bristol.

Re: Ezra Trim

Can someone help me out here? I have the newspaper articles about Ezra's return to his relatives. Here's my dilema. I have Catherine Trim (05 Apr 1785 - 1860-1870) that I'm trying to connect to her set of parents. Family legends say her father was John Trim. However, she might be Ezra's daughter and John's sister. Family lore has an almost identical story about an Indian raid that killed off most of the family. Two brothers were taken. One died and the other made it back to civilization. In this instance it was John Trim who survived. I found one story about a John Trim who settled in Palermo, Oswego, New York about 1814 (History of Oswego County, New York, 1877). His death age is identical to Ezra's and it's the same story except the raid was in the Mohawk Valley. What are the odds that John and Ezra in this instance are the same person? I cannot find Ezra in the 1820 census, but John is in Palermo. He is not there in 1830 and Ezra is. John is also living next door to Samuel E. Trim, Ezra's son. It is possible that Ezra is the oldest male living with John. Does anyone know about this second Indian raid involving another Trim who just happened to be named John? I find it a little fantastic that the same thing happened to two John Trims.
