Im looking at my tree I have a Ellen Tuckwell born 1845 died 1936 nz. She was high Anglican Church well educated Left england ship Dorette. Daughter of William Tuckwell, Paper and paper hanger - Ellen Tuckwell Have no maiden name for this lady.

I am not sure about the others apart from the three that you confirmed from the BDM index. Seems to have been some controversay about the whereabouts of George Tuckwell according to the Evening Post of 1910/1911 which mentions a few of the Tuckwell family names. I am more closely connected to the Eliza Collier branch.

The ones that I have are George,Archer,Harold,Leonard,Maurice,May,Darcy. I don't have the others that you mention in my tree as wasn't sure that they belong although I suspect the first two may well do. Do you have anything to confirm that they belong?
I have three others:
Ellen (known as Nellie) 1874
Valentine Claude 1877
Royal Albert 1881
I am confident about these three and will ask my mother in law about:

Also connected to this Wellington couple, I had 14 children of which 11 were still alive at the death of the parents in 1882. Do you know what the names were from the following list?

I am keen to hear from anyone who has links to this family, particulalry Thomas christened 13 October 1822 or Richard christened 20 0ctober 1834. Their parents were John and Jane. Thomas married Adelaide Sarah Barnes about 1854 in Burford and they emigrated with Richard to New Zealand in 1855.

I finally managed to track Constance down with the help of the 1911 census.

She is listed as Connie Clark, aged 3, born London a visitor with Rose Clark, 52, born London at the home of Emma Wiles, previously Tuckwell (nee Lawrence), and her children Henry Thomas Tuckwel, Ethel E Tuckwell, and Violet Tuckwell (adopted niece?)

I think it's likely Constance was orphaned later on and was adopted by Emma, she used the same surname as her adoptive siblings.

If you come across any information on Richard Tuckwell who married Eliza Collier in Wellington, N.Z in the 1850's.I would love to hear from you. I appreciate that this Richard is different from the one you refer to but wondered if you had found my one while you were researching yours.
My Richard and Eliza had thirteen children all born I think in Wellington

I don't know where Joseph was born. IGI has Chilton Berks but this is not correct. He married Lavinia Green who was from Chilton in 1810 at Great Marlow Church. They had 8 children 2 born Great Marlow the rest at Cookham Berkshire. Joseph died in 1843 and so missed the 1851 where I could have seen his birth place. He was my 3 X Great Grandfather and is my brick wall!

Hi Michael, it appears we have something in common. I wonder how your research is coming on? I am trying to find out which part of France the Tocqueville's come from.I have only managed to trace my family back as far as my ggrandfather Elphege AugusteTocqueville who was born circa 1852 somewhere in France. Perhaps we could put our heads together on this one. Don't you just hate it when you have to spell your name out for everyone!

I am looking for information on Richard Tuckwell his wife Mary (crook) Tuckwell.Richard was born 1843,in Asthall Oxfordshire.Mary was born 1849 Barrington Gloucestershire.On the 1871 census they were living in Little Bromwich Aston, Warwickshire they had two children Sarah Ann,aged (1) Humphrey John aged (3).but i cannot find any referance to them in later censuses, except for Sarah Ann who was on the 1891 census working as a domestic servant at Lodge farm,Stowood Headington.

Hi Dilys, turns out we're not related. His Tocqueville/Tuckwell's came to England in Norman times, mine came in 1880's

a tuckwell website in Oz you say?! fantastic, just what i've been looking for. My connection with tuckwells in Australia is actually from Edward (Ned) tuckwell and Eliza (nee Hemmings) who moved to the Darwin area, an who i believe helped build many of the state parliament buildings??? is there anyone out there with more info and connections

Constance Mary Tuckwell

Has anyone come across this name or anything similar in their searches?

We believe she was born about 1908/1909 but can't find any trace of her on the records of births.

Is says on her marriage certificate, 1930, that her fathers name was Thomas Tuckwell and that he was an electrican, it also says that he was deceased but I doubt if this was the case. She was disinherited from her family as she was pregnant before marriage, they were Catholic so I have reason to believe they were Irish, this would also explain the lack of a Birth Certificate... She may have also had a sister in the Salvation army although this would be very unusual for a catholic at that time.

The surname Keogh was also mentioned by elderly relations although we're unsure whether this may have been her mothers maiden name, a cousin or aunts surname....

Unfortunatley, she died in 1935 when her son, my grandfather was not even five years old.

I also have a great grandfather called Joseph but he was married to a Mary Ann Alexander. All my family history is in storage at the moment so unless I can get the details up on this computer I cannot verify. There are lots of people looking for ancestors in Australia, and no doubt you are descended from Richard Tuckwell whose life history is well known.I can put you in touch with the Tuckwell website in Aus if you would like me to. My husband Peter JOHNSON's maternal great grandmother is Kate Jane TUCKWELL, born circ 1864 to Joseph TUCKWELL and Jane TALBOYS believed to be from New Zealand. Kate married John GUNN on 1st Sept 1883 in Prahran, Victoria, Australia. She was 21 at the time and the groom was 27.

I have a great deal of information re Aussie Tuckwells and would exchange this with you. Perhaps you have the same info as I have . There is also a Tuckwell website in Australia which I belong to and this has lots more info on it. If you want access I can put you in touch with the owner who is a descendent of Richard Tuckwell.

I live in North Glos close to 'Tuckwell land' where they all started off and make frequent visits with other Tuckwells to places of interest.

Sorry I haven't been in touch since Sept 10th. I had been quite busy and just couldn't remember how I came across your details. Now I have found them,. Since we last communicated the world has changed and we are all so sorry for what you and all Americans are having to go through. My husband and I visited New York in May this year and we have a lovely photo of us on top of the Empire State Building with the twin towers in the background.

However, on to Tuckwell matters. I cannot trace your John born 1753. We have a John born 1759 who married Sarah Baker but their children also have different names to your John and Sarah. Do you know John's parents ? I can go back to 1660 but I need more information from you.

There were lots of Tuckwells in and around that area.I have a Tuckwell relative coming over from Australia in November and we are going to take a look around the villages to see if we can find anything new.
