Re: Tumblesons who married Edgingtons: Lucinda, Cynthia Ann, Nathaniel, Samuel, probably Adams Co OH

Mary Edgington was married to Nathaniel Tumbleson who was the older brother of Samuel who married Sarah. John Tunbleson was their father and Sarah Throughman was the mother. Their five children Nathaniel 1777, Samuel 1779, Priscilla 1781, Sarah 1783 and Elizabeth 1789 were all baptized in 1789 at Redstone Fort near Brownsvile in Fayette County in Pa. They went from there to Greene co. in Pa then Mason Co. in Ky before settling in Adams co. Ohio
Nathaniel and Mary had a son, Abel, born in 1863. He had I believe 12 children by two wives. One was Nathaniel, the 2nd.b 1839 who married a Annariah Donaldson in 1867. they had two children after he returned from the Civil War. Cora Belle B 1868 and Elmer b 1870. Elmer was my grandfather--he later changed his name to James Elmer Tumbleson after he migrated to Kansas and then in 1908 to Oregon. He married Lydia Lucinda Douthit in Ohio on 12/25/1893 and they had seven children. They are both buried in Forest Grove, Oregon. I have both earlier and later data if you desire

Dear Brenda,I hope I can help you. From what I know Matilda came from Penn.My records show her as 1st.being married to John H. Simmons,by whom she had 3 children,John,Hannah, and Elizabeth.William had been married to Abigail Carson.William and Matilda married Feb.7th 1846.On the1860 census it list in the household;Nancy(born1830) Lyman Grimes (1838)Ester(1847)Chris Columbus (1854)My GGrandfather plus the 3 step children.William was born in1803 and Matilda in 1811. It shows Ester married George W. Sibrel, son of Fredrick Sibrel and Linnie Ails(?) I understand William to be the Brother of David and Samuel Bradford. The first Settlers of Adams County Ohio.William was supposed to have been orphaned at a young age and grew up in Virginia before joining his brothers in Adams County. It's been told that William fathered more than 20 children.I'm still trying to fill in a lot of the blanks.I hope I' ve helped you in some way.Feel free to contact me anytime.Take Care,Joyce

As stated, No. 1360, Adams Co., OH Chancery Court, filed 14 June 1826, involving the George Egington estate and heirs. An amendment , Wm. Edgington v. heirs of Arthur Fox, dec'd and the heirs of George Edgington, dec'd, inserted first the heirs of Elizabeth Leedom, who had d., then those of Nathaniel Tomlinson and "the said Mary Tomlinson has since departed this life leaving [as posted]. . ." Nathaniel Tumbleson and Mary his wife, Samuel Tumbleson and Sarah his wife. . . Served by reading in the presence and hearing of. . .Sarah Tumbleson 29 Sep 1826. .

The suit, with all of the attendant and extensive depositions, motions and notices, was filed with Chancery Court records in the basement of the Adams courthouse in Nov 1963, when they were copied by Ann Johnson. (There were a number of references to Samuel and Sarah, but one key page, which said on the outside 'Saml. Tumblesons heirs. A. Edgington" was too black to read.) I do not know whether the LDS has microfilmed these papers.

1789 Redstone Fort baptisms: Nathaniel, Samuel, Priscilla, Sarah, Elizabeth

John Tumlinson and Sarah had five children baptised 16 July 1789 at Redstone Fort, Brownsville, Fayette Co., PA by a newly ordained Episcopal circuit rider: Nathaniel, born 5 October 1777; Samuel, born 25 April 1779; Priscilla, born 15 December 1781; Sarah, born in October 1783, and Elizabeth, born 9 May 1789. (Rev. Robert Ayre's Journals, 11 May 1785-1845, in library of Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania, in Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society Quarterly, Spring 1988, Vol. 14, No. 4, 12)

Rev. Robert Ayres b. 1761, Monaghan Twp., York Co., PA, m. 15 Apr 1790 Rachel Goe of Washington Twp., Fayette Co., PA, daughter of William Goe, Sr. Originally a Methodist, Robert was ordained as an Episcopalian 5 June 1789, assigned to Redstone Fort, Brownsville, PA 28 June. He traveled to DE, MD, OH, PA and VA. He was on the Bath Circuit, Cumberland Old Town, MD and Berkeley Springs, (W) VA June 1787-July 1788, and the Redstone Circuit, Morganstown (W) VA, Uniontown, Washington, PA, Allegheny, Washington, Fayettte, Westmoreland, PA, Monongalia, (W) VA, June 1786-May 1787. In 1786 he mentioned dining with Mr. Cresap, just out of Old Town, over the Potomac into Virginia; he baptised the children of Isaac Cox and Sarah and of David Cox and Rebekah. His brother John Ayres m. 24 Dec 1795 Susanna Holiday, a surname that surfaces among the Ts in Adams Co., OH.

Those searching for the origins of John Tomlinson/Tumlinson and Sarah (Thoroughman) may want to look at the Tomlinsons of Frederick Co., MD.
