I am trying to locate women from Leicester England who went by the name of Trisha (Tricia) Agnes and Sheila L. Tunnicliffe and were stationed at the High Ercall RAF Air Base near Shropshire in WW 2. Trisha may have married a man named Perkins in 1946. Trisha also had a sister named Sheila who worked at the airbase whom I would also like to find. Can anyone help me with either of these women?

My GG Grandfather came from Hollybrook Demesne near Ballyhealy next to Lough Arrow north of Boyle. His name on his marriage certificate is Toniclift (to Catherine Higgins) and his name on his death certificate is Tunnycliffe.
Catherine moved to Coatbridge with the family (except my G Grandfather, Richard, who went to Liverpool) after the death of her husband. At this moment I don't know why.
There were quite a few Tunnicliffe (with various spellings) families around this area and in nearby parishes.

I am a decendant of one of her brothers John. the family lived in NZ a few years after Ellen. one brother Robert is still AWOL. The family came from Carrick on Shannon Ireland. have found many spellings of the name: Tonacliff, Tonicliff Toneycliff etc. Where the family came from before Ireland ????

They both died in Marin County, California.

I'm attempting to find descendants of Laurene E. (Tunnicliffe) Frame. She had at least 1 daughter, her name was Laurene M.
Hello again. I sent you an e-mail but, since I haven't heard from you, I thought maybe there is a chance that you didn't get it. I haven't been in touch with Betty or Janis in awhile but maybe I will be able to do so this weekend. Have you been in touch with either of them? It is interesting to be in touch with family you have never met and discover what you may or may not have in common. I feel as though I have missed out on a lot. Many years ago my husband and I were in England. He was attending school on the in's and out's of a new aircraft. He was there a month and I went over for two weeks. I loved it there but, of course, had no idea that I might have family within reach. Didn't even get a chance to look for any. I would love to go back again but there seems to be no chance of that in the near future. Anyway, I hope that you will contact me again. Bye

Thank you for responding to my query about the Tunnicliffe Family. I received a response to a message board about two years ago and it was a cousin living in Vancouver. Since them I have been in contact with my aunt Betty and have had one note from aunt Isabelle. My parents were divorced when I was very young so I had no knowledge of the family until I returned to Manitoba in 1960 and met my father a couple of years later. I moved back to Florida in 1964 and he came down for my wedding. That was the last time I saw him.
I received a copy of the family tree from Betty so have been attempting to learn as much as I can from that.
Have you been in contact with Betty? Do you live in Canada or the UK?
I hope that you will write to me again and, once again, I do thank you for making contact.

Re: Tunnicliffe's Tea Trips

Hi Shelley

I don't know very much more than my original post.

The Tunnicliffe's Tea Trips seem to have been organised like a savings club - where people paid a little money each week throughout the year, saving towards the cost of the day trip. All the money was collected in advance so that there was nothing to pay on the day of the trip.

I think the Tunnicliffe's Tea Trips were organised by a local shopkeeper in Lancashire who made all the travel arrangements, by train and charabanc, and organised the meals for the party during the day.

They travelled to a different holiday location each year. I only know of the trip to Worksop and Sherwood Forest in 1912 and the trip to North Wales the following year.

The Tunnicliffe's Tea Trips were probably discontinued in 1914, due to the outbreak of the First World War.

Sorry I can't give you much more information. I was hoping someone else would know about the earlier trips.

Brian
Hi,
Yes still on the trail of Tunnicliffes. So far it's led me to Ireland where the name takes several forms: Tonicliffe, Tunnycliffe and Tonicleft to name but a few.
My Great Great Grandfather couldn't write so the registrars seem to have spelt it as it sounded.
No connection as far as I am aware to Nottingham Tunnicliffs.

Sorry.

Tunnicliffe's Tea Trips

My Mother went on TUNNICLIFFE'S 4th Annual TEA TRIP in July 1912. It was a day trip to Worksop and the Dukeries, near Sherwood Forest. The party left Earlestown by train at 7am, had a carriage drive through the forest and then lunch. After tea they took the train back to Earlestown, where they arrived at 10pm.

In July 1913 she went on TUNNICLIFFE'S 5th Annual TEA TRIP, this time to Colwyn Bay.

Does anyone have any information about the earlier Tunnicliffe's Tea Trips, the 1st, the 2nd and the 3rd, which presumably took place in 1909, 1910, and 1911.

Brian
My father mentioned that a uncle of his went to Canada and thats all I know on that point. But during my search I have come across a James Tunnacliffe who had a daughter Florence Lottie Tunnacliffe born 1893 in the Sept quarter(I dont have the exact month so it could be July).
However I believe his wife was called Charlotte.
Hope this is of some help.
rgds
Adrian

Oh dear...your phone calls must cost a fortune! I bet you don't get many 'Double Glazing' salesman calls!
There's a few variations on the Tunnicliffe surname, I have a small bible from Boyle in Ireland with the name Margaret Tonacliff in it dated 1869.
So presumably 'our' problem is not new and somehow between 1869 and 1881 (census entry for Liverpool) the name was changed by mis-spelling (?).
Strangely enough I have an ancester buried in Crossthwaite, Cumbria...that's the most tenuous link you'll have but there you go...
Cheers for answering. PS You'll have to change your 'security' password now...although I doubt anyone will be able to spell it anyway!
Steve.

However in the Telephone directory for Staffordshire there are pages of them!!
I'm from North Wales myself but I think you can be sure that the name centres around Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
Still it's better than Jones or Smith!
