I feel certain that your william hancock could be the person I am searching for who was married to Rosina from Greenwich. My direct descendent is Rosina E Hancock born 1819 in Southam, Hampshire. We are from Greenwich/Deptford. Her husband was never at home on the census so I don't know his name and she was not a widow - children appeared between census dates. I know my family were to do with shipping and John Hancock in America. Do we share a tree?

I look forward to your reply and thank you for your time.

Lynda

Ancestry.com have made a mistake with my name calling me Percival Norman but thats another story. William was born in gosport and Rosina was born Southsea.
Best Wishes from Chris

Due to maybe poor writing skills the e became an i. My descendants came from Huntingdon in UK. A member of the family did emigrate to Canada in 1895 toSteveston BC with wife. They were Tom Harry and Emma Jane both Turnill she Stanley previously. he was b 1862 .
Denise

I have since found that J. E. Turnell is John Edward, and that he was born to Thomas and Amy Turnell around 1840. He came to America before 1860. Joseph Turnell was also a brother who was born in 1843. Joseph appears with the Turnell family along with Jabez(?), George, Henry, and Sarah Elizabeth in the 1851 census. There was another sister named Rosamund who appears in the 1861 census - all in Long Sutton, Lincolnshire, England.

I am afraid I have nothing on the Turnell line except the name of my John J Patterson's wife of Eliza. Since the name isn't as common as Jones or Smith I would agree the lines probably connect somewhere we just need to connect the generations. I will be glad to put your name down on my Turnell page in case I find something and hope you will do the same. I will have to admit I have been a bit lax in my research in the past few months but hope to get back into it soon. I have been helping babysit my grandson and it has turned out to be an everyday thing and he just wears me out so I just sleep when I get home!
