Hello,
I'm descended from Henry Tuthill of Norfolk County, England. He and his wife Alice Gooch had a son Henry Tuthill who lived in Southold, Long Island. They may have come over on the Planter or on another ship circa 1634.
If anyone has information/documents/certificates about these people or their descendants especially Daniel Tuthill born in 1757 at Southold, I would love to hear from you. Pictures would be a special treat.
Thank You!
I am a descendent of John Alexander & his father, Elam and hit a road block with Elam while doing our family genealogy for my dad, John Tuttle. Anyone have any idea who this guy was? The 1850 census lists him living with over 50 other people/ families and says he was born in NY about 1815 but I can find nothing before or after this.

I am looking for any information about the family of Vern an Edith Westfall. Vern may be short for Laverne and I believe that Edith's maiden name is Tuttle. I believe that the family moved around a lot. I have traced them to Broome Co, Allegany Co. And Wyoming Co's New York in the early 1900's. They had several children Harold Laverne (1910), Mildred (1914), William Albert (1916), Alice (1918), Beatrice Bell (1919), Marion (1925), and Martha Margaret (1927). There may have been another son who was killed in a farming accident. The family was hit hard by the Great Depression. If anyone knows anything about this family please let me know. Thanks.

thanks for responding to my post,I have really hit the wall researching the Tuttle line. I can't seem to find the names of Frank's parents or any Tuttle preceeding him, if you know his parents names I'd really appreciate the info. I'll research Freeman Justice and Hezekiah Tuttle and see what I come up with. I do have the Rau-Row-Rowe Family book with my grandmother's handwritten notes. She was Audrey Tuttle Immel but friends and family called her Sally. She used to take me to the Tuttle reunions...I suppose they don't have those anymore. Thanks for any help.

I am also a great-granddaughter of Frank & Bertha Tuttle.
I have found a little information about Frank's family by searching for Freeman Justice Tuttle. He was a half-brother. Freeman's wife attended the Tuttle reunions when I was growing up. There is a book for The Rau-Row-Rowe Family available as a free download or now to purchase in paperback form. You can also search for information about this. I would appreciate information about Hezekiah Tuttle, Frank's grandfather.

I am descended from Richard and John Tuttle (two of the three men whose families came on the Planter in 1635.) John's great granddaughter Margaret married Aquilla Underwood and Richard's great granddaughter Phebe married Joseph Bucknam, then their children Parker Underwood and Hannah Peabody Bucknam married. I just wanted to know if the ancestry of the three Planter brothers, from father Symon, grandfather Richard, and great grandfather Thomas is verifiable by more than just the wills I have seen referenced or if anyone knows any more detail about these three generations. Thanks.

1850 Portage, OH, TUTTLE with BEACH child

Hello:

I have a bit of a BEACH mystery going on and thought this would be the place to ask for help.

In the 1850 Edinburg, Portage Co., OH, census Adaline BEACH, 10, b. Ohio, is with William and Margaret (Hampton) DAWSON (my relatives).

In the same census, Andrew BEACH, 8, b. Ohio, is two doors from Adaline with the Anson Y. and Annette TUTTLE family.

In the 1850 Atwater, Portage, OH, census Lucy A. BEACH, 8, b. Ohio, is with the Henry T. and Orpha WILLSEY family.

In 1860, Adaline, school teacher, is with the Jacob and Editha (Ross) DAWSON family (my relatives) in Wyoming, Otoe County, NE.

An AdEline, same vitals and also a school teacher, is also found with the Joshua and Lucinda DAWSON family in the Ross, Fremont County, IA, census. This is likely the same woman; censuses were taken more than a month apart. (And my g-g-uncle, S.A. HATHAWAY is living next door!)

Nothing definitive for Lucy or Andrew in the 1860. However, there is now an Andrew TUTTLE, correct vitals, in the 1860 Anson and Annette TUTTLE family. There was no Andrew TUTTLE in the 1850. Did the enumerator assume? Had he been adopted by the TUTTLEs?

I am trying to sort out all three children, especially Adaline as she is with my family in the 1860.

I have been unable to satisfactorily sort out the DAWSONs but feel they must all be connected (Jacob and Joshua likely brothers and born in Ohio).

Does anyone have Adaline, Lucy, or Andrew BEACH? Or William (1787 - 1868), Jacob (1820 - 1869), or Joshua (46 in the 1860) DAWSON?

Any help very much appreciated!

I'm in the same quandry. I have five Darlin Tuttles in my family. The earliest one I can find is Darlin Tuttle, (b. 1780, d. 1840) He has one son named Darlin, two grandsons named Darlin Marion Tuttle, and a great-grandson named Darlin Thomas Tuttle.

HOWEVER - while my Darlin shows up in the 1830 and 1840 census in Clermont County, Ohio, there is ANOTHER Darlin in those same years, living in BUTLER County, Ohio. Are they related?

It's such an unusal name (at least not one I would attribute to a guy). So I too have thought it was a maiden name for a woman, given to her son. And for there to be two of them, both living in Ohio at the same time.....

Anyone have any insight? I cannot find either of them any earlier in the ancestry.com databases.

I went thru Lebanon trying to see grams but did not get the right time to do it and she died after that so I had not seen her since I was in grade school. My email is tuthut@windstream.net if you want to write and maybe I can help fill gaps. I always intended to go further into family history but never did. This is a free one on Ancestry so I guess you should email me.

Janice:

The last common ancestor we share is Ephraim and Dinah (Wheeler) Tuttle. My line continues forward through Caleb's older brother Ezekiel. I take the direct Tuttle line back to 1522 in Northamptonshire - Ephraim, Nathaniel, William, Symon, Richard, and Thomas (see That's a Matter of Opinion citations on the Ancestry public tree).

Jim Tuttle

What happened to Truman & Chloe (Burr) Tuttle?

Truman Tuttle & Chloe Burr of Litchfield County, CT, after stops in NY, ultimately ended up in Huron County, OH, along with their 10 children. Truman at 69 is living with his son-in-law and daughter in Peru, Huron County in the 1850USC. Nothing later is known of him although undocumented information suggests he died in 1853. Nothing further is known (to me) of Chloe who disappears from the record in the 1830s. Does anyone know more?

This Truman Tuttle is the son of Samuel Tuttle and Thankful Pierson AND the uncle of the Truman Tuttle (son of Ezekiel) who after stops in NY ended up in Fond du Lac County, WI and was married to Sarah/Sally Bagley.

Additional known information is on the public tree "That's a Matter of Opinion"

Jim Tuttle

What happened to Bostwick and Luannie Tuttle?

Bostwick and Luannie (Judd) Tuttle last appeared in the Hamburg, Erie County, New York USC in 1830 but no record exists for either after that time. Does anyone have any information?

Bostwick's ancestry is carried in "That's a Matter of Opinion"on a public tree.

Jim Tuttle

Henry Tuttle in Zinc, AR c. 1909 *photo of Zinc and small article

I saw this in our local paper, and wanted to pass it along to fellow researchers. Hope it helps someone!

I would really like to know what Joplin was like in 1909 so that I could get the true meaning of the phrase on the bottom of the postcard: "The Joplin of North Arkansas".
