I am trying to track Daniel Twiss (b Antrim NH) married to Mary (b Marblehead, MA) - these details are from his son's death certificate - son, Daniel Twiss (b c 1807, Hudson NH) would subsequently marry Eleanor Hamilton (b 1830, Nova Scotia)in Thompson CT in 1847.

Any clues would be appreciated.

Hi Allison,
Is your Dad a doctor and did he go to Canada from the UK? Can you contact me at gero.at.ihug.oc.nz (replace the .at with @). The reason is that the information I have contains living people and I do not (as yet) have their permission to put their details up.
I believe that Margaret's surname was Yuill, but I do not have confirmation of this and I do not have any dates of birth, death, or marriage.
Gero

Hi, Father is Peter Carrington Twiss (born Augu 26, 1946), son of Arthur Twiss and Margaret Twiss (don't know her maiden name). Peter has one brother, David, and a sister (name evading me at present). Any information would be great! Arthur had several siblings, some in Australia, but was the youngest and born in India (apparently his Mother died at birth -- Lady Carrington?).

Allison Twiss

Wrong Name on Death Certificate

I have been tracing the Twiss family (descendants of mine). There is a John Twiss born around 1824 in Co Claire.
He marries Margaret McGuiness and have 5 children. All of the records I have found birth & death cert. ofor the children show McGuiness as the mother. They have a child who dies in 1863. John dies in 1865 but the wife is stated as Margaret Higgins not McGuiness as was 2 years previous. In 1869 a Margaret Twiss dies whose husband is John Twiss. In the 1871 census the children have been placed in schools, etc implying both parents are died.
How would i find out if it was amistake on the deasth certificate or did he remarry. I can find no trace of a Margaret Higgins/McGregor. I do have a copy of the death certificate.

Can anyone help please.

The information on a death certificate is only as accurate as the knowledge of the informant to the registrar. Errors were often made, especially if the informant was not related (eg a neighbour). If the informant was the widow however, then of course you would expect the info to be correct.

Hello, I too have family in the Haydock/St. Helens/Wigan area. i have little information on the Twiss/Twist family but I'd be happy to help you as much as I can.
I understand from research in the Past that there were two seperate Twist families in the area. I have gon as far back as 1834. From this point onward my family name seems to be interchangable.
Do you have any more information on you Twiss family other than what you posted? you can also contact me at english_muffn@hotmail.com (no 'i' in muffin)
Hope to hear from you soon,
Lisa

TWISS - back in the saddle

Hi All.

Its been a very long time since I have looked at my side of the family tree - but a recent visit to my Grandparents (JAMES) has inspired me to start again - with a decent program as well!

I notice that there has been a LOT of research done on the Australian side of the tree - namely finding out the important link of William Twiss - Father to the convict who came to Australia.

I just have a few questions though - is anyone still working on this at all? And how did they find out the information of William Twiss?

Courtney

Hi everyone,

I'm taking a trip to the Blue Moutains in 2 weeks and I'll be taking the journey to Mt Twiss. I've been in touch with the Tourist Bureau to find out how to get there and everything. And finally found out that Mt Twiss was named after Captain William Twiss and not some convict who went on the Blue Moutains expedition as my grandmother used to tell us all ! (how were we meant to know!!) So will let you know what the place looks like and will post some pics.
