Hi Evelyn: My great-great-great-great-great grandfather was a Robert Tyre born about 1725. I am a descendant of his son, William Tyre, born about 1751, and his wife Barbra Stewart. I don't see a Theophilus on Robert Tyre's family tree. I wonder if he could have been a brother of Robert Tyre. From the family tree I have, it appears that the majority of Robert's descendants (until my father's generation) were born in Largs (a few in Glasgow or Paisley).

Who knows, we are probably related somewhere back there.

Cheers,
Bonita

Hello Evelyn,
Thanks for your reply. I not sure if I posted this in an earlier post but I have a strong feeling that my Tyre name is more Scottish then Irish. I might get some flack for this. My 3rd Great Grandfather was born around 1821 as Peter Joseph Tyre but the exact location is unknown. He married in Booterstown Parish near Dublin in 1852 and came to the USA soon after. I wonder if our families are connected somehow. Unfortunately this is earliest info I have on my family as of now. I need to research in Ireland for more info. If I find anything more, I will let you know.
Best regards,
Bob Tyer
Trumbull, CT USA
My Tyers / Tyres are from Sedgely in the Black Country, originally Staffordshire. Thomas, son of Thomas married Ann Clayton in 1832 and they had at least 11 children - 3 sons moved to Cumbria, and 1 of them then moved to Co Durham where my grandad Kit Tyer was born - the spelling changes backwards and forwards on certificates and census returns

It seems to be a name that was in Scotland, Ireland and maybe france also. My Tyrees were thought to have come from Perthshire area in Scotland, which is near the easterly shore, however there is an Island off the westerly shore that is named Tyree. Of course there were people that traveled between Scotland, Ireland, France which may account for the name being found in different areas and different spellings can be through a lack of being able to spell.

I have been trying to track down this Jesse Tyre myself from Perthshire, b.1668 I have seen him refered to in a lot of family trees, but I have not seen any hard evidence that supports it or even have I found a person to come forward and claim where it came from... He tends to be shown as the first ancestor to come from Scotland to United States.... Almost like a Legend or Myth, who knows? Anyway I am starting a new DNA group for Tyres and its variation spellings called Tyrees/Tyries. The purpose of the group is to connect people through DNA to gain more insite into there Tyre lineage. Click DNA, Groups, Tyree/Tyrie

My understanding, from all I've read (and there are books on the subject) is that the Tyrees are an historic Scottish family that has established branches in Ireland and England. The first recorded Tyree or Tyrie was a Maurice de Tyrie, who evidently was in turn of Flemish origin (many settled from Flanders and Normandy in the Scottish Lowlands in the 12th and 13th centuries and even earlier). I believe there is no proven connection to the McIntyres, despite sharing four letters in the names. The McIntyres have a unique family origin story that doesn't connect with the Tyrees, who evidently took their surname from a place where they settled in Perthshire. The name is said to mean "king's house" -- Ty/ree -- and the village was named for an old stone structure thast was some ancient chieftain's abode in times much earlier than the settlement of the Tyrees from Flanders. The Tyrees intermarried with many established Scottish families and produced a number of local officials and churchmen of note. The coat of arms associated with the Tyrees incorporates not the eagle and ship of the McIntyres but a lion rampant, usually blue (as in the blue lion of Bruce), a device shared by the Percy family of North England. Tyre or Tyrer on the other hand could be a rendition of the same name or another name altogether. Bona fortuna.

I only know what my Father in Law (Loran Tyre) has told me. He was born and raised in the Lake City, Live Oak area of Florida. I dont have my family tree information with me right now. I believe his dad was Elmer Tyre and two generations up from him was Cannon Tyre. He always goes to the Tyre reunions and I believe he said there was one coming up this June. He has pictures of one of the sons of Cannon Tyre (I can get the picture and name when I get home) but he does have Indian looking features. Is this your Tyre line? Would love to get your info if possible. Will share what I have if your interested.

Kevin Pagan
kpagan81@gmail.com

Wow, that is very interesting. There have been many rumors of Indian blood in the family but this is the first time that I hear that Cannon was Indian. I attended a Tyre reunion several years back and if I recall correctly, someone had a picture of Cannon Tyre. Couldn't get a copy though or view it long enough to recall his features. The stories in our Tyre lines: some say that William Boaz, son of Lewis Tyre was part Indian. Lewis wife was Sarah Sykes. Have not been able to establish who her father or mother was. Perhaps there was some Indian blood there. Don't have anything to confirm or deny that William Boaz was part Indian but others say that William Boaz Tyre's wife Sarah George, was orphaned as a child when the Indian's killed her parents. Supposed she didn't know her last name. Brice George family took her in and thus she became Sarah George. Other Indian story is that of Cannon's mother Mary Cannon Tyre, who was nearly scalped by the Indians in 1810. Then there was William Boaz's sister, Sarah Jane... rumor had it that there was Indian blood in the family, because Sarah Jane Tyre knew all the old cures and herbal remedies and went about dispensing them to sick neighbors.

How well do you know the Cannon Tyre line? Would be happy to share info.

Hello, Im a little late in getting into this conversation last post looks like was some time in 2008. Anyway my wife is a decendent of Cannon Tyre and talking to her Father Loran O Tyre it has been passed down through the generations that Cannon Tyre was a full blooded Indian who was abandoned and picked up by a Tyre family as a baby. Anyone have any information that would conferm or deni this?

Thanks in advance,
Kevin Pagan

Hi,

I am researching Louise Ann Tyre, born 1847 Kentucky, married John F. N. Dunlap in 1871 Texas County, MO, and lived for her last known residence (at least until 1918) in Union, Arkansas. Both of her parents were from Virginia. The only possibility I have found is an Ann Tyre, born 1847 KY living in Louisville, KY with a likely mother, Mildred Tyre, in the 1850 census.

Any hints or help would be greatly appreciated.

Cordially,

S Kielpinski
creative52x52x(at)yahoo.com`

Kim,
I see that you are from Kathleen, FL. Is that near Lakeland, FL? If so, you should be near the Bartow, FL library. They apparently have a sizeable genealogy library from what I understand. I once met someone that mentioned that. Joe Spann used to work there and is a formal genealogist. You can find many of his earlier posts on Ancestry and GenForum msg. boards. He could be a great resource for you if you can get to that library.

FYI, I did respond to one or two of the other threads were you posted. We all have to work hard to put this puzzle together.

I see you are a GA dawgs fan. Go dawgs! I descend from Hansel's cousins, Wm. Boaz Tyre line. Was wondering if you might have any stories to share about your grandfather. My grandfather died when I was young...I know he could pick the banjo and shuffled a bit to country music. I have his terrible bunions and genetics for elevated cholesterol and heart disease. My father never spoke about the family and when I was younger I guess I was busy about many things. I do have a passenger list from one of his merchant marine trips during WWII and he recorded his ancestry as Irish and English. His maternal line was Bennett and from all I can tell that's where the English entered, so that left the Tyres in the Irish category (which pretty much follows what others think).

Would love to hear some family stories. Even if they are not mine directly...they definitely help me to understand the life and times of all our pioneers.

Sorry, I missed your most recent post. I don't find the new message board system all that user friendly. Seemed to me it was so much easier to follow all postings in the past. Have been sticking mostly with the trees and research. So, I missed the reunion. Can't recall correctly but I attended a reunion a few years back in Lulu Fl. Was this the same family?

All that said, do you happen to have any info on the Anderson family?
Is Brice Anderson below related to Thaney?
Major Tyre is found noted in the recent (2005) book by Sabina Murray re: Tattnall Co., GA Loose papers found in attic of courthouse dating from 1801-1845.
Kim - thanks for the reply and info. These Tyre brothers have been hard to trace and identify descendents, etc. I think I was fishing for info and name on his wife as much as anything. A Martha Tyre was indicted in Tattnal Co along with a Coleman girl and was trying to see if it was our Martha. A later census shows Cannon wife as Mary. You have any info on this?? Maybe Martha moved with him after all. Thanks, Jim

Cannon in 1830 Tattnal GA census in addition to 2 boys lists a female 5/10, 1 female 15/20, and 1 female 20/30. The 5/10 could well be Sally Tyre which some show as oldest girl (b.1823). But who is the 15/20 year old? Also, anyone verify name of wife? Cannon married Martha Coleman in Tattnal Co, GA 1813, but a married Martha Tyre was indicted along with a Sarah Coleman for adultery and fornication in Tattnal in 1829. 1850 Calhoun Fla census a 50 yr old female Mary in household.
I also am looking for descendants of George Tyre and Mary Ann Snooks. I believe Catherine Tyer's sister, Laura, born 1877. is my greandmother. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
