I have a William Wineow born between 1807-1810 who was a widow with a daughter named Elizabeth b1840 Missouri. William was born in Maryland to parents from Bavaria. His daughter is raised by the Christopher's so I assumed William's wife was a Christopher however in 1800-1820 Thomas Christopher was given bounty land in Crab Orchard Caldwell Kentucky for his military service in the Rev War and one of his sons farmed there for 10-20 years. Wineow is a rare name could we be talking about the same family? Were your Terrell families Ulster Irish? and was there a relationship between them and the Williams or Christopher clans? The Christopher and Williams family sold their land and moved to Big River Farm in Missouri.

My name is Joseph Tyrrell, but not the one you have talked about. I am from MA. I am related to George Tyrrell who was my great great grandfather, who had a son George Jr. He then had multiple children. Kenneth (My grandfather), Edward, James, Thomas, Mary, and one other daughter. I believe this to be the lineage best of my abilities. George Jr. inhabited Canton during the 1940's and was born in the 1910's. I believe it was 1916 - 1919. If anyone has any info please e-mail

Hi, Paul,
I hate to be so unhelpful, but I put my complete knowledge of the Tyrrells of New York City into that post in 2006. I barely know that they came from Galway in the early 20th century, much less where they were before that. My complete connection is that my great grandfather Rev. William M. Foley was the brother of Philip Winspeare Foley, known as Winspeare. He was a serious alcoholic and I think was persuaded to leave the area where my grandfather was a Church of Ireland clergyman as their father had been before him. Winspeare immigrated to New York and somehow managed to get Mary Bridget Tyrrell to marry him. They seemed separated by the time of his death. I once had contact with a descendant of the family, but they knew less about their genealogy than I did.

Sorry for the late reply.

Must be a different William Tyrrell (ours was born 1846, Cardiffsbridge, County Dublin), but they may have been related! Our William's father was Samuel Tyrrell (a provisions dealer) who may have been born at a similar time as your Robert John Tyrrell, perhaps they were brothers!

From our research Samuel is connected to a James Tyrrell (1796-1866), the dates suggest he could be their father and he is listed as Samuel's landlord in the Griffiths Valuation 1847 in Pelletstown. He was a Iron Monger with an Iron Works in Cardiffsbridge and various other addresses and was registered as a Freeman of the city of Dublin in 1832 (on electoral register 1835 as an Ironmonger). There are a few newspaper announcements showing he remarried late in life after his wife died having more children. Upon his death his new wife puts up the estate for auction, there is a fantastic advert in the Freemans Journal summarising the leaseholds and stock.

We would love to learn more about this line of the family, so if any of this links up with you please let us know how you progress

I am looking for a birth record around 1823 for Robert John Tyrrell, Coach painter born Dublin and son of William Tyrrell, Iron Founder. Rbt Jno moved to London in the 1840's I guess and may have died in the Broad Street cholera outbreak as he dissappears from all census records

The Tyrrell site seems to have dried up with little or no activity for some time. My brother-in-law was Malcolm Tyrrell, and in the 1909 births register Thomas James Tyrrell was in Kingston, Surrey (2a 418). The 1911 Census has T.J in a household with Stephen Tyrrell (age 29) and Pricilla (aged 27) which coukld be TJ's parents and a Frederick Tyrrell aged 61. (grandfather?)
I have found it difficult to trace much as I am in the USA and have not found the correct website amongst the many that I have tried. If you come across ant of the above, please let me know. It appears that they were from somewhere in London, which could be Essex. regards Peter
Henry Tyrrell

Looking for info so for without much success, for a Henry Tyrrell who upon his marriage in 1905 was 27. The wedding took place in Cardiff. His profession is listed as "mariner".

I have found a Henry Tyrrell who was boarding in accommodation in Cardiff, born West Indies, Ships Cook, age 26 in the 1901 census

Although the ages do not quite match I am exploring this route, as the others have so far not had any success. Plus it so far is the best match for the Henry I am after (around the right age, profession and area).

I do know that the Henry I am after had a father called James who is listed as deceased on the wedding certificate for 1905.

I can not find any info on any Henry Tyrrell's being baptised/born in the West Indies from 1870-1880. But have found a James Tyrrell baptised in Jamaica in 1843, can not find any record of his death. Though do not know if he is of course the James Tyrell I am after, nor even if Henry is indeed the one mentioned in the 1901 census as being from the West Indies. But would like to at least rule out this avenue etc.

I can not find any mention of a Henry Tyrrell who died prior to 1917 (I know this as his wife Alice remarried in 1917 and was now a widow) and was born around 1875-1880.

He is not mentioned on the 1911 census, but his wife and 3 sons are. Alice is "married" so Henry should of been alive but may of been at sea.

Any assistance/pointers will be helpful.

Re: Frederick Tyrrell

I see a Frederick George Tyrrell in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site, who was a Lance Corporal # 5347058 died 19 May 1943 aged 28. That would make him born about 1914 or 1915. This one was in the Corps of Military Police and is buried in Grave # 16. C.I. in Medjez-El-Bab War Cemetery. Interestingly you have a James Thomas and I am searching for info on Thomas James Tyrrell, c. 1909 in Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey, father of my late brother-in-law.
Hi tizza
I am also looking for George and Margaret. Alphonsus was my paternal Grandfather. My Mother always told me the story that George Tyrrell went off droving and never returned (NSW or VIC). After waiting the required seven years, Margaret remarried and was then known to the family as "Grannie Cowd"
It was not known why George never returned but he either died or 'skipped town' I am unable to find anything on Fitzgerald or Cowd.

Hi,
My Tyrrell connection is a large family of Tyrrells who have lived in Preston, Lancashire, England since the 1830's at least, probably earlier.
John Tyrrell B 1834, Preston married Lettice Peel b 1839
CHILDREN Richard, James, Thomas, William*, Ellen
William* B 1875, Preston Married Minnie Dench B 1877 in Surrey in 1902 CHILDREN Florence, Elizabeth, John.

Many others in my family tree. The Tyrrells of 19th century Preston were a fertile bunch!

I hope this is useful to you
Re: Tyrrell Family of Virginia

Could you please consult your Tyrrell Genealogy for the following information? Is this information included? Who was Jane Gains, who were Lewis Tyrrell's parents? Why did he come to Canada. My guess and only a guess is that Jane was Black.

Lewis Tyrell married Jane Gains on August 31, 1849 in Culpeper Court House, Virginia. Jane Gains was a spinster. Lewis Tyrell died September 25, 1908 at his late residence, Vine St. and Welland Ave., St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 81 years, 5 months. Jane Tyrell died March 1, 1886, age 64 years. Their son? William C. Tyrell died January 15, 1898, by accident in Albany, NY, age 33 years, 3 months.

Thanks for your help!
Edie
