Hi Julie,

I think I may have responded to you on the BBC site too? Anyway, I have done quite a bit of research now, but unfortunately I am out of the country until mid Jan. I will be able to have a look at the research then, and let you know if there's any links. I'm wondering whether it is grandparents or great grandparents that were brother's or cosuins as the name is a coincidence. We have got back to 1860's. All in Birmingham, except Bill Upston did emigrate to Australia just before the second world war. He was my grandfather, Richard Upston's brother. My grandfather had two children, Gordon and Marion.

Best wishes,

Wendy

Hi Wendy,
I too am looking for info. My grandfather(Richard Upston)left Birmingham when he was a child. I think his father, was also a Richard, may have been one of the brothers that left the UK to come to Australia as you described. I believe my great grandfather was killed in an accident not long after arriving. My grandfather passed away in his 60's over 20 years ago and my Father(another Richard) is alive and well at 62 years old.
I will have a chat to my father to try and get some more info.
Regards
Michael Upston

Hi Katrina,

I know it was a long time ago, but I've only just got around to going back on the site! it would be great if you could send any information your husband's sister has! I also know that Gordon born Sept 1926 and Marion Upston's born 1929 parents, Richard and Flora Upston lived in Birmingham in the UK. They lived briefly in Hendon, London when my mother was very young, marion. As far as i know Richard had four or five brothers, some or all went to Australia and tasmania. I think one of the brothers was called Bill. Richard died around the age of 42 from TB during the war. My mom, marion helped look after him when she was about 10/11 years of age. Does this this tie up with anything you have found? Gordon has two daughters, Gillian and Pam in their 50's. My sister is Lynne harvey, nee Jenkins form my dad's side, and also brother David Jenkins. We had another brother who died some years ago, Terence Jenkins. Gillian and Pam are our cousins.

It would be great to hear from you.

Wendy jenkins

George Upston and Eliza Pinner were my GG Grand parents, their son George Married Sarah Ann Davis, their Daughter Pearl married Walter Sturzaker, their daughter Rita married Richard Nettlefold and they had me (Anita). Where do you fit into this line? I have some information on this family from when they came to Tasmania. Regards Anita Pennicott Please contact me

Hi Kristine,

A bit late in the day I realise, but I hadn't checked this website for a long time, and din't expect a response, so i was surprised when I came across your reply! Not sure if you are still in th UK! Anyway, did you manage to trace any further details about the Upstons? I know there are also some in Tasmania. Unfortunately, my uncle can't remember a great deal about who is who. Richard, was his father, and he had a brother, who went out to Australia just after the war. He didn't have children, but there were also their aunts, so my uncle's great aunts who went out. I'll try and get their names agian. Sory it sounds so vague. Does this connect up with anything you've got? It would be nice to hear from you again.

Wendy

Charles and one child died in England. The children's name i have are Elenor, George, William, Sarah, Maryann,.
Charles died 3 Feb 1847 at Attleborough. Sarah remarried to her cousin William Page and imigrated to Australia, arriving in Tasmania 1 July 1857.
If you can help it would be great.

Anita

tracing members of Upston family

My mother is Marion Flora Upston, born 12-6-29 and her brother Gordon Upston, aged 75 were brought up in the Midlands, UK. Thier father was Richard Upston. He had brothers who left for Australia around 1900's-i think! the family has completely lost touch with relatives in Australia, although I understand there are probably grand and great grand children by now. I can provide more info if needed. We would all like to trace our other relatives, partly out of curiosity and partly to see if any friendship could ensue. Please e-mail me at the above address.

Wendy
