My gr. gr. grandmother was Helen Swan daughter of James Swan and Margaret Ure.

She married John Simpson and one of their sons Alexander was my gr. gradnfather. He was a shale miner who migrated to Australia in the 1890s with his wife Jane Jack and 3 sons.

Have certs etc regarding death of Helen Swan.

Am researching my partner's family tree. Katie Ure (nee Christian) married Alan Ure around 1886 in Lancashire then emigrated to Australia and married Alan's brother John Ure. Alan and John's parents were James Ure and Agnes Dewar am still trying to find information on them. James born around 1840 in Stirlingshire Scotland and Agnes around 1841 in Tron Parish, Edinburgh. In inforation greatly accepted. Alan and Katie had a daughter Janet who married a Robert Dance in 1916 in Victoria

I don't know a lot about my Ures. I have no idea if any of them went to Australia from Scotland. I have only followed my grandmothers line.....Mary Emma Dawson Ure born Glasgow 17 September 1876, died Bournemouth, England May 1957. Her father was James Ure born 1851 Falkirk, Scotland and his father was Archibald Ure born 1826. Archibalds mother was Grace Thompson born Stirling, Scotland. I am still interested in that line of my family.

I live in England. My grandmother, Mary Emma Dawson Ure, was born Glasgow, Scotland 17 September, 1876. Her father was James Ure born c1853 Falkirk, Scotland. He was an iron moulder.
Mary Emma Dawson Ure married Henry Robert Owen 2 March 1899 in Surrey. Their son was my Dad.

My grandmother was Mary Emma Dawson Ure. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland on 17 September 1876. Her father was James Ure [1851~1944. iron moulder] born in Falkirk, the son of Archibald Ure born in 1826.

I live in England not far from Heathrow airport on the western edge of London.

I have just found a Janet Harding with child [ Walter ] 9 months on a passanger list from Montreal to Glasgow in 1914. Walter is a family name so it could be her. The family said that George was in the Canadian Army but I have not been able to find his papers. Have found his father and brothers army papers. Will update you if I find any more.

I am still searching for Ure relations, mainly from Glasgow but also from Dunbarton & Stirling areas, mine came to Australia under the name Wallace which was my Roberts middle name, I don't know why they did this or if it was a mistake on someone elses behalf, I have however found out that my Roberts father Alexander remarried and went on to have another 7 children with a Agnes Patrick/Kilpatrick.
Robert, Elizabeth resided in St Ninians, Stirling, Scotland before leaving for Australia aboard the ship 'Nabob' in 1855.
Any leads would be greatly appreciated

Yes ,I am still interested in the URE surname. In my tree my g. grandfather was John Mitchell Ebenezer URE born on 7th March 1866. His father was Thomas URE born about 1832, but I dont have much information.

I am trying to find out any information on the Ure family from Kingscavel Scotland also. The family I am looking for may be the family David Ure had with Jane Scott. Did the family immigrate to Canada around 1926? I am specifically looking for Jean and/or Jessi Ure (sisters) who arrived in Quebec aboard the Metagama on or around that time. They then moved out to Alberta. Possibly around the Lethbridge area. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am tracing a relative Lochlin/Lachlin or Loughlan Ure born around 1740 who appears in Sussex in 1762. Family legend has it he sailed from Inverness about 1760 but I think it might have been Bo'ness given the importance of the port at that time and the number of Ures in the Stirling area. Have you uncovered any Lochlins etc?

Thew as a Loughlin Ure born at Kippen in 1737 but we dont have a positive connection from him to Sussex. Any light you can shed apprecieted.

Found this marriage record in a Brooklyn index (certif # 3351) but have not found the couple together in the 1900 census. By 1910 Edward is listed as single with his sister Lena and brother in law, James Moran, in Brooklyn.

Does anyone IF they married & what happened to them?

I suspect you already have the information I have managed to glean in just one day, but nevertheless here it is.

Well, my grandfather was an Alexander Ure and, having looked at the census data of 1911, it seems that he lived in Finglass, Dublin at this time. If this was my grandfather, of which I am not sure, he was 25 at the time which means he was born around 1886. My father, William, was born in 1922 which fits the dates.

The census indicates that he lived with his 2 sisters, Annie (27) and Elizabeth(23). Interestingly and frustratingly, he also lived with his mother ( Martha (50)) and his step father Joseph (45) both with surname O,Keeffe.
Which means that I don't as yet know who Alexander's father was, or what happened to him - died, divorced?

It seems that Alexander and his two sisters kept their religion - Church of Ireland and that Martha either converted or was always a catholic. Joseph O'Keeffe was also a catholic.

Alexander was famed for his hatred of catholics and this living arrangement may have had something to do with it

I am now waiting to see if Alexander appears on the 1901 census, if it appears. Martha and Joseph had been married 5 years in 1911, so if there is any information from 1901, it may help me trace my GGGf.

Have you got anything for me? And why are you looking for Ures in Dublin?

All the christian names you have mentioned excluding Helen & Jean are in my tree, I don't know where mine originated from in Scotland but I have my gg grandfather (Robert Wallace Ure)as being born 17 May 1809 Kirkintilloch, Dunbarton & one of his siblings (James) being born 13 February 1803 Kilsyth.

Looking for anything on an Evelyn Margurite born Aug. 18, 1895 in Aldershot. F. Robert Ure M. Annie Watson. All I know is that he was a Shoeing Smith for the 3rd Hussars in Aldershot. I am told that they both died and Evelyn was raised by various members of the regiment and called a regimental baby. I do not know anything else about this family.

Andrew Ure and Elizabeth Dann had a son, Hobart b. 1850 in Ireland d. aft 1930 in Colorado, md. Alice in 1879. I would like to know Alice's maiden name and her parents' names, if possible.

I guess this means we are related. My great great great grandfather was William Jamieson. He was a son of Robert Jamieson, carter in Banknock and Janet Ure. The reasons for his not being baptised may be that this is missing from the register or even that he was illegitimate since his parents are not named in his marriage banns in 1825. His death certificate in 1880 gives Robert and Janet as his parents. WIlliam had three sons and two daughters. I am descended from Alexander the second of his sons. I have been unable to locate the marriage of Robert and Janet. I wondered what had happened to the rest of their children.

I am sure we might well have a link. I think your Edward Ure is the son of Agnes Keenan who was born in Glasgow 1875. Agnes married James Ure, and in the 1901 census she is listed at 7 Cedar Place Glasgow with her father Edward aged 54 husband James 27 son James aged 1 and son Edward aged 3.
I think this is the Edward that you have in your details.

I have a marriage certificate for Edward Ure and Kate Maude married in 1924. The certificate gives Edwards mothers name as Agnes Ure maiden name Keenan. Might this be the same person you are looking for? Marriage took place in Anderston District of Glasgow.
