I am trying to find information on Thomsa Garnish and Jane Knop, born around 1819. Her parents were James and Sarah Knopp. They would be my 3rd great grandparents on my mothers side. Would love to hear from you. Marjorie Harris

Joseph & Julia Vale

I am unable to find any details of 'Julia' Vale who was married to Joseph. He was born in 1847 and Julia somewhere around 1848. They had five children, Emma (aka Emmie, my grandmother) Annie, Richard, Joseph, and William. If I am remembering correctly Joseph was the 'Butler' or similar at Coughton Court and Julia is believed to have been a maid but when they married they moved to Norwood, Derbyshire (Bolsover). Any information about Julia would be really helpful.

Brian - was your first relative over in Canada a 'Lucy' Vale? We understand that she emigrated to Canada in the early 1900's to Fort William. If so she was my great aunt. Kate

Levi Vale, Daniel Williams vale, Elizabeth Vale

Levi Vail was born about 1765 in New York. We know this from the 1880 census where his daughter Elizabeth Liming, who is living in Mississippi, lists her father’s birthplace as New York.
In 1788 there was a Levi Vale as witness to a Montgomery County, Virginia marriage.
Sometime about 1795 Levi marries Elizabeth Williams in Virginia. Elizabeth was the
daughter of Jesse Williams who had moved to Culpepper/Orange County,
Virginia from Maryland. Unfortunately all the early census records of these
counties were destroyed in the Civil War. I feel that Levi Vale was living
in Culpepper or Orange County, Virginia when he met and married Elizabeth
Williams, but with no census records it is a brick wall. A book on the
Williams family talks about the marriage of Elizabeth to a Mr, Vail and says
they left for Kentucky and were never heard from again. It speculates that
they died enroute. However they did make it and have many descendants.
Levi shows on the Knox County, Kentucky tax records as Levi VALE from 1815
to 1818. In 1818 Levi was sued for slander in Knox County, Kentucky by Tabitha
Dowis, daughter of Jesse Dowis. After this, he disappears from Kentucky. The line between Know County KY and Greene County, TN changed several times back then cause family records to show both locations. His wife Elizabeth lived in Knox County until her death in 1878. Elizabeth raised a daughter Rachel Vale in Knox County Kentucky. Rachel was born in Virginia in 1797. No other children are to be found in Kentucky. Levi and his other 2 children, Daniel Williams Vail and Elizabeth Vail moved on to Madison County Alabama without his wife and daughter, taking his other children with him. Levi's daughter who remained in Kentucky was named Rachel after Elizabeth's mother.
In the 1830 census of Madison Co., AL, Daniel VAIL is on p. 117
(20001-00001) and Levi VAIL is on p. 137 (000100001-00000001) [Levi
b.1760-70.] Daniel b.1806/7. Daniel appears in the 1840 Jackson Co., AL
census (221001-010101) The 1850 Tippah Co., MS and the 1860 Polk Co., AR
censuses show Daniel W. born in VA. In Johnson Co., TX 1880 census, the parents of
Daniel's son Allison W. are shown born in KY. In 1900 Indian Territory census
(Choctaw Nation), the parents of Daniel's son, James W. VAIL, are shown born
in KY and AL.
William Orange Liming married Elizabeth Vail in Madison County, AL, in 1838. They along with Levi Vail and Daniel Vail had land in the northern part of the county. Elizabeth was born in KY and TN in different census records. Eventually, W. O. and Elizabeth settled in Tippah/ Benton County, MS. not far from Daniel Williams Vail. Elizabeth died in 1888.

So…The question is: Who were Levi’s parents in New Youk? From Naming conventions in this family there is a very strong possibility that his father was named Daniel. Did his parents move from New York to Virginia? Or did levi strike out on this own to Virginia?
Glenmcd@cox.net
Yes it was a murder suicide. I have the records saved on my family tree. Her name was Ricarda Vale Caban. Abuelita called her tia Cayita and said she was very beautiful. Her boyfriend shot her in the chest and then shot himself in the head according to the death records. It was a tragic end.

Dear Vale cousins:

I was once told by my father (Eddie Ramírez) that one of the Vale Cabán sisters (daughter of Tomás Cabán Soto and Natividad Cabán) was killed by a former boyfriend. I was told she was a beautiful young woman, who broke up with her boyfriend, that he couldn't take the rejection and killed her. I know this was very hard for my grandmother. Since Purificación y Aurora Vale Cabán married and had children, I'm guessing it was Estel, but it could be someone else.

Does anyone know about this? Thank you,

Joselyn

Hi Kerry, I have been doing family history for a long time and have collected a lot of info along the way. Is Hugh's daughter the correct link? I am descended from one of Hugh's brothers and have found Minnie's brothers and sisters and details of where they went. Are you in touch with any of the Derby Richardson relatives? Might be best if we communicate privately.
Regards Helen

Hello everyone,

My name is Joanna Soto-Avilés and I live in Borikén (aka Puerto Rico) in the Cordillera in Bo. Pulguillas, Coamo. I just wanted to share the following information in the hopes of adding to our mutual genealogy research:

* My mother, Adelaida "Yaya" Hernandez Hernandez (married name: Adelaida Soto), was born in Bo. Voladoras, Moca, on Oct-16-1926.
She married Juan Soto Delgado (born Nov-07-1924 in Bo. Caimitol Bajo, Aguadilla) on Jan-07-1950.
She passed away in Brooklyn, New York, on Feb-18-2007.

* Her mother, Juana Hernandez Caban, was born in Bo. Voladoras, Moca, on Sep-23-1909.
She married Jose Hernandez Rodriguez (born Sep-28-1988 in Bo. Voladoras, Moca).
She passed away from typhoid during a major hurricane in Puerto Rico but I do not recall the year.
I was told that all the Caban family in Moca were related in some way and that they all descended from a single Caban from Spain.

* Her mother, Agapita "Mita" Caban Soto, was born in Bo. Voladoras, Moca, in approximately 1886 or 1887.
She was married to Juan "Papito" Hernandez Mendez (born approx. between 1871 and 1880). I do not recall the year of their marriage.
She passed away in Brooklyn, New York, in Mar-18-1969.

* Her mother, Balbina Soto Perez, was born in Bo. Voladoras, Moca, around 1950. She was married to Jose Caban Soto (born around 1950 in Bo. Voladoras, Moca). This was his 2nd marriage (it was said his 1st wife was a Spaniard). I do not recall the year of their marriage nor their dates of their passing.

I hope this information helps in some way.

If anyone has any information that can help me in my own genealogy research, please let me know.

Thank you.

Joanna Soto-Aviles

P.S.: Aviles is my husband's paternal surname.

P.S.S.: I am bilingual (English/Spanish).
P.D.D.: Soy bilingue (ingles/español).

Greetings to my Vale cousins.

I am also related to this same Vale Cabán line.

My maternal grandmother has tía Pura & tío Adrian's picture in her living room (your grandparents are her very special tíos that helped get her out of el campo, which she will be forever thankful!!!..she talks about them all the time when reminiscing about her youth in PR)

Her father is Tomás Vale Cabán who passed away in 1997 & her mother is Gregoria Ramírez Avilés who passed away in 1992 (both in Brooklyn, NY). Abuelo Tomás & abuela Goyita are both siblings to your grandparents. According to my grandmother they all met in one of abuelo Natalio's (father of Adrian & Gregoria) parties in Cerro Gordo.

My grandmother has very fond memories of her uncles and I recall her mentioning tío Jango which I believe is Alejandro Vale Cabán, Michelle's grandfather. (So we indeed are cousins.)

I see that the Vale Cabán family is well researched. The Ramírez Avilés from Cerro Gordo, Moca, which appears in my family tree many times maternally and paternally has limited research and the oldest relative I have is Tomás Ramírez. I suspect that he married twice and that the many Ramírez families from Cerro Gordo ultimately are his descendants.

I'm heading to Puerto Rico next week to visit the family and I would love to compare research. Feel free to message me and we can discuss our genealogical connections!

-Melissa

She was so kind to us! I don't see my mum, she's cut off all of her family. All of her bothers and sisters, her mum, me & my sister Kathy as well.
We still live in warrington, I am happily married to Keith and we have 7 children! I started to do my family history a couple of years ago but couldn't find anything on Grandad! I remember seeing him about 25yrs ago when he came to visit my Aunty Pat and lost contact as my mum said she didn't know where he was. I remembered you lived in Forest Gate and thought I'd post a message here on Ancestry and keep my fingers crossed that someone would see it and I got lucky! How is everyone?

My ancesters were from the Redditch area and had a needle factory. I have other information, if interested.

Only info I have is that a John Vale had brothers: William b.5/17/1795, Richard and Thomas. They may have gone to England from France and their name was changed from DuVal. I can't find proof of this yet but I have a handwritten note from a now deceased relative.

Gilbert and Benjamin Vale of Westminster area, London

Hi. I'm working on Gilbert Vale (father and older brother's name both Benjamin, mother is Sarah, and wife was Hephsibah ... various spellings of her name, as you can imagine). Gilbert's birth date given variously as 1788, 1789, or 1791 (the latter appears the best documented, all others are from secondary sources) and his death is certain as 1866 in New York City. He came to NYC from the Port of Rye in England in 1828. Would love to find someone working the same lines.

Hi. Not sure if it is the same group of Vales, but the chap I'm working on (Gilbert Vale) came to NY City c. 1728 from the Port of Rye, England. Would love to find someone working the same line.

Hi Dean,

Nice to hear from you. I have not done a lot lately as I had come to a bit of a dead end on several lines. So, this may kick start me into action again !!

if we have the right Steven and Elizabeth (Brown?)he would be my G. Grandfather. My grandfather, Edward Vale would have been Walters brother. I had the name Walter (I think I have all the siblings, but not his second name George.
I have quite a lot of details as far back as Thomas Vail - the spelling changed - if you want to compare notes that would be great. If you want to contact me direct, my email is pittam@supanet.com
Look forward to hearing from you (where are you now? I am in West Wales!!)
