Hello,
My name is Daniel Vega.
I saw Valentin, Velez and San Sebastian all in one sentence, and I just had to write just to see what might transpire!
Today is my first official day of genealogy/family tree searching. Kind of rough. lol.
My reply title should probably read: Re: Valentin/Cruz-San Sebastian, Puerto Rico and Vega/ Valentin(Galan) Arecibo, Puerto Rico? help. But anyway...
My late Grandmother Manuela Valentin Galan (father's side) sat with with me and gave me as much family background as she could.
So if anyone finds this useful that's great and/or if anyone can offer me any help this also would be awesome.
So here goes the only family tree that we have:
My Grandparents (mother's side) Dimitrio Cruz Velez / Lutgarda Valentin Perez raised my mother and siblings in San Sebastian P.R.
My mother's grandparents (on her mother's side) were: Blas Valentin / Maria Elvira Perez (birthplaces unknown)
My mother's grandparents (on her father's side) were: Jose Maria Cruz / Thomasa Velez (birthplaces unknown)
Hope this is making sense so far! lol.
My grandparents (on my father's side) were Victoriano Vega Velez / Manuela Valentin Galan. Who raised my father and siblings in Arecibo, P.R.
My father' grandparents (mother's side) were Juan Rosa Valentin Soto / Maria Galan Mendez (birthplaces unknown)
My father's grandparents (on his father's side) were Julio Vega / Maria Velez Gonzales (birthplaces unknown)

I eagerly hope to hear some useful and interesting feedback.

p.s. I have gut feeling that my great-grandparents on my mother's side may have come from (or near) San Sabatian, Spain. I feel this might be possible because San Sebastian, Spain is located in the N of Spain just as San Sabastian P.R is located N side of the island of P.R. Just a wild hunch, I guess....
Also, My mother has said that we have some family (distant?)in NY.

Christina Koch Valentin/ Chicago north side

Looking for any descendants of Christina Koch Valentin (born 1878, Bergrath Germany) and her husband Karl/Carl. THeir children were Joseph, Francis, Marie and RIchard. I am related thru Christina's older brother Emil. I believe the Valentins were part of the family on the north side; after immigrating to Chicago early 1880s, they eventually split up to the south, west and north sides. My grandfather is Enrique Valentin Rosa also born in Naguabo, PR in 1912 (still alive). Not sure of his parents names but will verify with my father. Our family in this area is very large, but I do not have any information of where they migrated from.

Martiniano Jr. was my brother, my kid brother. he went in the
Army because he really believed in the Viet-Nam war. He was
a member of the ROTC in Collage and volunteer to active duty.
volunteer to the infantry and to Viet. As I gather on his first assignment his group was pin down by machine gun fire
and he volunteer to blow the enemy nest up, thus saving his
platoon. He was killed in the proses. For his bravery he was awarded a Bronze Star! I am also a Viet-Vet but Coast Guard. If anyone new my brother and can give me some information on him, I will be very grateful. My e-mail address is numisre@verizon.net

My family thinks that we migrated from the Canary Islands but I can't not confirm this. I have also found information stating that the Valentin surname also came from Corsica.

Hey it interesting to see my two last names in you ancestry. I am Dr. Luis Angel Valentin Vega, living in Manati, Puerto Rico. Has for what i have been able to look into. Our roots are all over P.R. Coming from France and Spain.

So far I have found Theres a lot of our family in the area of Noroeste of Puerto Rico. This is Manati, Utuado, Florida, all the way to Mayaguez. In another hand. My dad has Couisn in Carolina infront of the airport. So what can I say, we are a big family and i Know we are conected some where.

* First, A theory that the French connection could be from the island of Corsica (Corcega).

*A variant of the last name has also been proposed to be Valentini by many researchers of the Corsican immigration to Puerto Rico in the 1800's

* In my particular family tree I can only go back to Isabela, Puerto Rico. I would like to know if you have any information of Valentin individuals moving to Isabela from other towns in the West of Puerto Rico (Mayaguez,Rincon,Anasco,Moca, etc.)

*My great grandfather was Ceferino Valentin Rodriguez (1885) son of Jose Valentin Roman (1856).

* My brother once found information that Dionisio Roman and Rosa Roman were the parents of Jose Valentin Roman. I have not been able to confirm this information.

valentin is a corsican lastname, all valentins can trace their roots to the west side of the island, mainly utuado. you can find info on wikipedia under"list of corsican last names" or "forza corsa-puertorico"" valentin nation" on facebook

Your grandfather was probably named Ismael Valentin. You most likely will find him in Ancestry.com where they have a listing of the passengers that came to the US from Puerto Rico from the 1920s to the late 1940s. They had about five ships that transported Puerto Ricans from the island to New York. If I remember correctly these ships made their trips about once every quarter of the year. Looking through the manefest is easier than it sounds. Your local library may have free or limited access to Ancestry.com. Draft Registration Cards from WWI and WWII may also provide you with information if he registered (some men didn't). Feel free to e-mail if you wish additional information.

Valentin Name Meaning and History

French, northeastern Italian, Spanish (Valentín), German, Swedish, Danish, and Jewish (western Ashkenazic): from the Latin personal name Valentinus (see Valentine).

The Jewish surname is an adoption of the Christian personal name.
