Re: Benito Dodero and Juana Cesena

These people are my relatives, Juana being my great-great grandmother. Francisca had another brother-Carlos born 09-30-1851, my great grandfather. My cousin has alot of information on the Cesenas and other related persons. Her her mother (my aunt) and grandmother passed all this information down to us. Carlos was labeled as a "martinez" by the mexican people, and he did not like this, so he changed his last name to "martan". His daughter Amelia Montreuil-Martan, was my grandmother. Her mother was Sara Montreuil. Dodero last name came from Juana's 2nd marriage, the two kids Carlos and Francisca were given and registered with the step dad's(Dodero) last name. The biological father, Felipe Martin, was a merchant from Paris and in one of his returns to Cabo/San Franscisco, his ship sunk and he drowned along with others. And that is how Juana Cesena widowed and remarried Benito Dodero. Any relatives out there are more than welcomed to email me. It would be nice to know who is out there. I understand from my cousin that within the next couple of years, there will be another family reunion. We know of relatives in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tucson and possibly San Diego.

I’m not related to any member of this family.

1930 is the last available census at this time.

WHO are Manuel's parents??
NEED 1st names + DOB's + birthplaces

Try -
Military Records = This is a FREE service!
You may wish to include a personal letter stating all info that you know.
Be sure to include any alternate spelling of the last name.
On line form allows you to request information from your, or your relative's, military personnel record. This option is only available if you are the veteran or next of kin (surviving spouse that has not remarried, father, mother, son, daughter, sister, or brother). Otherwise you will need to send in the SF180.
This post is old...but I'm hoping for a response. I also would like to know where Daniel obtained the information that the Valles' are from Catluna, Spain.

My grandparents emigrated to El Paso, Texas in the early 1920s. I do not know for certain if any other relatives went with them other than my great-aunt Estela Garcia, younger sister to my grandmother.

My grandmother Oralia Garcia was from El Valle De Allende , Chihuahua. She married my grandfather David M. Valles. She had 4 other sisters, only one that I knew was Estela Garcia. The other sister might have been named Alicia, Hortensia, and Emily or Emelia?

Do you have any of those ladies in your family as aunts?
If so, please reply to me personally at: iwasamightymouse@yahoo.com.

I do not read or speak Spanish (much to my chagrin) but if you write to me in Spanish, I have friends here that could help me with reading any response from you.

Thank you, Mary Stone
Hello Catrina,

I don't know if I can help you. The names you mentioned in your post are not familiar to me.

You might be able to learn something about your dad if you searched the census records for the State that he lived in. I found my grandfather in the 1930 census in Texas. If he was a child at the time of the census that you look at, it would also list his parent's name and the names of his siblings.

If you are a paying subscriber to Ancestry.Com, this website has many resources that you could search for your great grandfather and grandfather. For instance I found they now have a resource for immigrants that entered the U.S.A. during a certain period of time. I found where my grandmother and later my grandfather entered El Paso, Texas in the early 1920s. LDS (Latter-day-Saints) Family Search I found the death certificate of my grandmother under a resource they provided "Texas Deaths, 1890 - 1976.

I hope this might help you a little. I find if I "play" around with Ancestry.com and LDS Family Search, or Rootsweb (by the way, LDS and Rootsweb do not charge) looking at their resources that I have learned more about what is available to me as far as researching.

I cannot tutor you on how to use the sites. I am self-taught merely by playing around on these sites, clicking various resources they provide to see if I can find anything that would help me in my search. That is how you can learn.

I realize your post was some time ago, but I did not realize that I had this feature on my ancestry.com website...see what you get when you browse around?

Sincerely, Mary Stone

Hello Daniel Valles, I hope you will accept my apologies for not responding to your email re the Valles surname. To be truthful, I had not know I had any messages to respond to. I would be happy to exchange family member names that I have as far as my grandfather's name, his spouse, and their children's name. I really know very little about their life in Chihuahua other than their first 4 children were born there and my grandparents emigrated to El Paso, Texas in 1923 where their 5th child was born.

You may personally contact me at: iwasamightmouse@yahoo.com

It was interesting to me to learn from you the Valles surname is not common in Mexico and that you provided the name of the Cataluna in Spain from where your Valles come from. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Mary Stone

Garcia/Valles/Mijares/Minjares Surnames

It's been a while since I posted my request for any information on David Mijares/Minjares Valles, and Oralia (maiden name Garcia) Valles. These were my grandparents who emigrated to El Paso, around 1923 with their four children. A fifth child, Sergio David Valles was born in El Paso, 1925. The names of the four oldest are: Zulema, Carmen, Antonio and Nora.

My grandmother's father's name was Jose Garcia and he had four (4) other daughters. Their names may have been Henrietta, Emma, Alicia, and the youngest was Estella. Estella I know for certain since she was the only great-aunt that I got to meet.

The older children of David and Oralia were born in the State of Chihuahua. There may be family in Hidalgo del Parral.

David Valles's father, is believed to have died when my grandfather was a very young boy. His father was reported to have been an attorney. My grandfather, worked as a railroad clerk in Chihuahua, a store employee in Coahuila and a treasury office worker in Jimenez during the Porfirio Diaz regime. If anyone has information regarding these surnames, or is also doing research on these particular surnames. Please contact me at: iwasamightymouse@earthlink.net
In addition, if you can provide me with any websites/genealogy search sites regarding persons born in Mexico I would doubly appreciate that information.

Thank you
Mary Stone

Thank you for posting your information. I mark with interest the parallel between our fathers' lives. For many Mexican Americans, military service offered a tremendous opportunity to better their lives.

My father, Maj. Joe. R. Valles, born in Santa Clara in the Silver City area on March 19, 1922, and passed away on August 10, 1982, and had also served in the military, having enlisted the day after Pearl Harbor. He served in the 11th Air Force in the Aleutians as an Army Air Corps gunnery Sgt. aboard B-24's and took part in the raids on the Japanese island of Paramushiru and in the actions on the American island of Kiska in 1943-44.

He went on to serve as a USAF flight instructor during Korea, trained Spanish NATO pilots in Spain during the mid-1950s, flew B-47's for the Strategic Air Command during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and flew MATS Hercules transport missions into Vietnam out from Japan until his retirement in 1968 as a Base Operations Commander for Yokota AFB in Japan.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph and William Julian, and widow, Annette.

I would be interested to exchange photos. Thanks for your tribute to your father. We appreciate and thank you for his service to the country!

She was born in 1885, so he must have been born around the same time. They had two children, Lupe and Jose born in 1913 and 1917 respectively. The stories about him are a little mixed up now but he was supposed to have immigrated from Spain to Mexico and then married Ignacia and then moved to the U.S. (once again, dates are unavailable).

There are numerous Valles families all over
Puerto Rico. I have not been able to
establish a family tie with them. I know
that some went to Panama but I don't know
who or when. If you can learn some more about
your family, please let me hear from you.
Thanksfor replying to my message

Thanks for your reply, Joyce. Motril, your
father's birthplace, is on Spain's south
shoreline some 100 miles east of Gibraltar
and quite a distance from my father's
birthplace of Polop. I have found that our
surname is quite common in Spain. We might
still be distant cousins, who knows. Would
like to hear from you again.
VALLES SURNAME

My family members came from Spain about 1850 and most lived in the San Juan
area of Puerto Rico ever since. I have never heard of any of them migrating
to Hawaii. I would love to be of more help to you and it would be wonderful
to know that we are related, but that may be very doubtful. I have traced my
family in Spain back to the 18th century. Can you tell me more about your
grandmother. Please e-mail me at wcvalles@adelphia.net. The Puerto Rican
migration to Hawaii is fascinating to me. It seems like such an extraordinary
leap to have taken.
Valles Family

I am looking for Valles family members. Agustin, I believe is my grandmother's grandfather. He was born in Villa de Allende on 27, August 1940. He married Maria Fernanda Lujan in 1858. They had 5 children: Maria Ynes 18,April 1860, Jose Esteban 27 Nov. 1862, Maria Justa de Jesus 9 Aug. 1864, Jose Gabriel 11 March 1867, and Agustin Valles 22 August 1868. I believe it was the last child that my family stems from. I have a copy of a family journal from 1840 to 1922. It skips the information about the marriage of my grand parents. Their names are Francisco Savedra and Ynes Valles.
