It is funny that you waited so long to write to Genie you make it sound like she is a guy when she is not. Genie and I are cousins. I looked at your web site and some of your info is incorrect? I have never found a perfect Van Buren Tree for such a Common name. Juanita June was only married one time. Are you sure the middle name is June?? Peter and Edwin are in your tree as brothers are you related to Peter and Edwin?? One or the other which one? Which Vader is your main ancestor?Have a great day.

Miranda Brown Van Buren of Wellsville, Alleghany Counter is the 3rd Great Grand Aunt of my husband Leland H. Tainter.

Miranda Brown was the youngest of 18 children of Levi and Joanna Catlin, early settlers in the town of Nelson.

I cite a copy of a Quitclaim dated 20 Jul 1830 that named the widow and the children and respective spouses of Levi Brown. This is recorded in a book, "Madison County- County Clerk Deeds- Volume 1 A - C pages 77, 78, 79 and filed in the office of the County Clerk at Wampsville, Madison, County, NY. Harmon and Miranda were married 21 Aug 1823. Probably in the town of Nelson.

William and Harriott were living at the Hotel in Wellsville that Harmon operated at the time of the 1850 census. I rather think that William may have been a nephew of Harmons. I believe Harmon's father was William and his mother was Phebe Ruff/Ruf.

Better late than never.
Hi
My name is Jean Burden and my father was Harry Van Burden.
Some time after 1926 my dad married a woman in California. He was in the Navy and was very young at the time. He was stationed in San Diego at the time. We know nothing more than that except his sister in law actually meant the lady on a visit out to their house in California. My aunt Esther could not remember her name and said she thought that there had been a child. But she thought the child had died. I never knew much about my dad. He never spoke much about his past. I only found my aunt Esther after working on my genealogy. I hope that your relative May is the lady I have been looking for. Please reply and let me know one way or another. Interesting that they and others moved to a plcae called Greenbush in Il.

Barb: what are the names of those buried in Illinois. The Dutch naming paternes could be significant. While in Kinderhook did you visit the Van Buren National Historic site. They may be a good place to go to find your answers. Remember if Catherine were a first cousin of the President with a Van Buren maiden name her father would be a brother of the President and her grandfather also the grandfather of the President. I think there should be enough info. online about the Presidents close relations to help you.
I have located two catherine Van Buren's born 1793, one father was Johannes and the other Martin P. Van Buren. He may be where the confusion starts. Without checking further I would look for those names in your book. Of course that old Genealogy may have many errors in it. I would believe that the Van Buren's were involved with the Kinderhook Reformed church or the Reformed church in NYC. Would have to check to see where he lived, not always in Kinderhook area where he retired to.
Catherine Van Buren Pulver buried in Illinois

Hello,
I have recently become involved in carrying on my mom's life-long quest to prove that she is related to President, Martin Van Buren. Our GGGGgrandmother Catherine (Katie) Van Buren married Richard Pulver and moved to Illinoisin 1843. Her daugher Emily married William Keene and that was the beginning of our direct line. Our Katie always told her grandchildren that she was the first cousin of the President, Martin Van Buren and made sure that her gravestone had her maiden name listed.
Last summer we went to Kinderhook and Albany to try and find birth and/or marriage records but did not succeed. Our best lead was the book, "History of Cornelis Maessen Van Buren". Our Catherine may be listed on page 194. She did marry a Pulver, but as I stated above, our Pulver was named Richard. The children listed #1031, 1032 and 1033 match the names of the children buried here in Illinois, however the dates of #835 Nancy C.or Katherine Van Buren do not match. We know our Catherine was born in 1793 and died September 9, 1872. she would have been too old for the listing on page 194. Does anyone out there have any leads we can follow? Where did the Van Buren family go to church? Are ther any other books that have been written that would help us discover the answers to our mystery? We would appreciate any help we can get. We have another trip planned for July.
thanks!
Barb Johnson
Yorkville, Illinois

Thank You Dottie.
It is a well informed sight with many resources, some day I hope to add to its research that was done by a very important person in my life. When I created the name "Dutch Apples" It was because we all try so hard to be related to the President but better yet to be related to the first VanBuren coming to New Netherland is much more interesting and lots of fun doing research. Just like a "Dutch Apple" If any one of you family researchers out there read the book that is posted just be careful there are errors we really don`t know which cousin married the other cousin.....Happy New Year and Happy Hunting....
Elizabeth

I, too am a cousin of the president through my great-grandmother, Angeline Van Buren, who married Andrew Jackson Vandervort, SR. They lived in pennsylvania and in Cooperstown, Ostega County, New York before settling in Kalkaska County, Michigan. Angeline's father was Martin Van Buren, who was like a first cousin two or three times removed or something like that. Her mother was Catherine
Pickens.

American Ancestry, Columbia County NYS

VanBuren Charles, of Claverack b. 1852 (m 1868 Phebe Knowles of Stuyvesant), son of George H..of Jefferson b. 1828 d 1887 (m. Charlotte Millard) son of Martin H. of Summit, b.1772 d. 1882 (M. Anna Dotts of Richmondville)

Should read: VanBuren Charles W. b. 1852 Jefferson m. Phebe Knowles of Livingstonville (not 1868 ?), son of George H. of Jefferson b.1828 d.1914 (married Charlotte Millard) son of Martin H. of Summit, b.1802 d. 2/7/1881

None of this even makes any sense. In the 1870 census Charles is still living at home with his family and Phebe Knowles is living in Livingstonville in the Town of Broome.with her grandmother, no parents are listed. Why would he list his father as being dead, as George never died until 1914? Martin H. is born in 1802, not too far off on the death 2/7/1891. Don't know what to say about Anna Dox (Dotts) as it seems that she may have died before he was ever born. 1900 Columbia County Census - Charles is living in a boarding house with several woman in the village of Hudson and Joseph is in Greenport not far away with his wife, mother and daughter. Phebe is listed as divorced but on her death certificate widowed. Looks like he very badly wanted to be related to the president.

Henry Van Beuren (Beekman3, Dr. Henry2, Dr. Johannes1)

Four years ago I found evidence that my great grandfather - Richard H. BUSSELL - married one Mary E. VAN BEUREN.

I have since found what may be a connection in NYGBS Quarterly "The VAN BEUREN Family of New York and New Jersey". This is with Henry VAN BEUREN, born NY, July 29, 1786, died Throggs Neck, Westchester Co., NY, May 27, 1822. Henry was the son of Beekman VAN BEUREN (born May 14, 1765) and Jane LOWEY.

Henry, it seems, married an unknown HARSEN. Other evidence found indicates that the "H" in Richard H. BUSSELL may have stood for HARSEN. It seems possible that Mary E. VAN BEUREN may be the daughter of Henry and this unknown HARSEN.

If anybody has any further information on the marriage of Henry VAN BEUREN and "unknown" HARSEN and/or their descendants, please contact me.

Other family names of my own that seem to be relate to this VAN BEUREN family are:

RYERSON, DUNN, and RHODES.

In particular, there is John Harsen RHODES who was president of the Grennwich Savings Bank in NY. He was married to Phebe Ann VAN BEUREN, daughter of Moses VAN BEUREN and Elizabeth MESEROLE (nee RYERSON).

The RHODES family knew the BUSSELL family as is proven by records of the Childrens Aid Society in NY. Miss J.H. Rhodes had expressed an interest in the "orphaned children" of Richard H. Bussell (son of Richard and Mary E. VAN BEUREN).

Thanks for any help or leads one may have on the VAN BEUREN, HARSEN connection.

This is a long shot but I have been told we are related to Pres.Martin Van Buren.........the oldest relative's name I have is Constant F Oakman, born in 1845, could he possibly be a child of a sibling of your Mary Ann? Do you have any information on her siblings?
