His father was Francis F Vanderhoof born 1854, NYC.
His father was the Edward Augustus Vanderhoof born 1818, NYC.
I do not know of Abraham Vanderhoof.
But there is a Vanderhoof Project on the internet that will help you find what you are looking for.
www.vanderhoofproject.com
A man name Terry Vanderhoof is I think in charge of this site.
You can join the Vanderhoof facebook page and he will help trace your Vanderhoof line. He did for me. There is a wealth of information on the Vanderhoof's on this web site. It goes all the way back to 1661 when the first Vanderhoofs came over from the Netherlands. Most Vanderhoof's are decended from this one family. Please look at the page and join the group. You will not be sorry.

I have a marriage certificate of Jacob T. Vanderhoof and Harriet O. Thompson. They were married on Oct. 29, 1868 in New York. It must be the same people because Harriet died on November 1, 1864. Her and Jacob Vanderhoof are buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn New York.
Linda

Re: Sloops on the Hudson

An interesting account of a journey by small boat from New Amsterdam to Albany and back can be found in The Journal of Jasper Dankaerts 1679-80 at http://www.gutenberg.org/files/23258/23258-h/23258-h.htm#Pag...
The account describes the journey up and down the Hudson which must have been made many times by Cornelis Cornelis van der Hoeven - and probably his brother, Jan Cornelis.
They are not mentioned directly in the journal, but some individuals who were closely connected do feature. Meus Hoogeboom is the owner of the boat that Dankaerts used (p 189) In 1684, Jan Cornelis was witness to the sale of this boat - the 'Royal Oak'. On page 197, Thomas Davitsz Kikebull is mentioned as the skipper of the boat. Thomas was the husband of Alida Schaets, daughter of Domine Gideon and the story of their stormy relationship plays out in the records of the Albany court records. Jan Cornelis Rented their house in Albany in 1681. On the return journey, Dankaerts spends a day with Frans Pieterse Clauw, carpenter of Kinderhook, nicknamed the 'Child of Luxury'. In 1686, Jan Cornelis and his sister Neeltje witness the baptism of a grandchild of Frans Pieterse Clauw.
A list of 'Vessels navigating the Hudson River in 1684, clearing from New York' is included in the 'Manual of the Corporation of the City of New York 1866' by D.T. Valentine, pages 787/788

The list covers the period March-Nov 1684 and contains eight refrences to Cornelis Cornelis Vanderhoof and his sloop 'New Albany' This fits in well with what was already known about Cornelis, the sinking of his boat in 1681 and the commisioning of the construction of a sloop in 1682. It also provides a valuable insight into the occupations of Cornelis and his brother Jan.

Fore more info see :

http://www.vanderhoofproject.com/index.php?option=com_conte...
Yes, my grandfather, David Dow Bentley, Jr, was Cornelia's first cousin. His mother, Gertrude Vanderhoof Bentley was the sister of William Birkbeck Vanderhoof. She comes up as having been an officer in the RAF, too (women's section). Looks like she was buried in Torquay, England, or at least the services were held there.

William was the brother of my great grandfather, Nelson R. Vanderhoof and son of Jacob Tuthill Vanderhoof. He was in shipping based out of Zanzibar for many years. Have more if you want to go back farther.
