John Vandervoort Maguire

I am seeking information regarding John Vandervoort Maguire who married Mary/Maria/Margaret ??. She was probably his second wife and married him between 1847 and 1850. They lived in Williamsburg, NY in 1850. John had children from his first marriage including Rebecca Maguire (b.1839) who married James Madison Hawxhurst Allen.

Possible additional children were Thomas, John, Sarah, and Martha.

John had a brother George and they were grocers.

Their mother was Maria Vandervoort (b. circa 1780)

Vandervoort/Haynie marriage California

I am looking for any Vandervoort relatives who remember a marriage between a male Haynie and a female Vandervoort back in about the 1910ish era? They lived in the Southern California area and had 3 daughters. Although one died shortly after birth and one of the other lived for 4 years before she also passed away. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Donna

Re: Jacob VDV / Catherine ACKER of Belnheim NY

Hannah Acker married to Peter Vandervoort was a sister to Johann Adam Acker born around 1852 in Dutchess County, New York that married Mary Brill. Adam Acker as he was known, came to Ontario very early 1800's and resided in Hamilton Township until his death in 1820. He is buried in St. Peter's Anglican Church in Cobourg, Northumberland County, Ontario. This area was previously known as Hamilton Township. My ancestor Isaac Dean born 1787 was in Murray Township and then Hamilton Township before moving to Hastings County, Ontario where he died in 1853. I do not know his parents. However, in an original baptism book in the Belleville Library in Belleville, Hastings County, Ontario, Caty and Isaac Dean baptized their children Adam Acker Dean and Elizeran (Eliza Ann Dean who married a James Lake). This Adam Acker Dean was my ggg grandfather. My gg grandfather Jabez Smith Dean named my great grandfather Adam Acker Dean. I assume that Caty was probably a Catherine Acker who had to be born around the time of Isaac Dean as her first child Eliza Ann was born in 1810. I know that my Isaac Dean was in various regiments and there is one in York in 1813 that had an Isaac Dean. I know for sure that he was in a muster roll in 1818 under a Colonel Ferguson in Hastings County. In 1834, he was in a muster roll with his two sons, my Adam Acker Dean and his brother Jabez Smith Dean born around 1813(not to be confused with a later Jabez Smith Dean that was my gg grandfather.) Isaac also had two other daughters, Mariah who married a Thomas Clare and a Louisa that never married. On his will, his wife is listed as Elizabeth who I believe was a Mosher. The reason I believe this is because Elizabeth left one third of her property to an Irena Mosher who was a sister of a Rhoda Mosher married to an Alexander Wilson. I have Irena Mosher's will confirming that she was a sister of Rhoda Mosher married to Alexander Wilson. I find your message interesting with the unknown children with Catherine Acker married to Peter Vandervoort. Could this have been my Caty Acker ??

May I ask your first name and where our lines merge?

I notice you use the Vandervort spelling instead of VanDervoort. I have found that Orsemus may be the one that switched to one 'O'. It seems that some time after Adrian's death, Charles and his sons changed the name back to Vandervoort with 2 'O's. Adrian Orsemus, Adrian's other son and Charles brother, continued to use one the 'o' spelling. I have located all of their burial sites and can be confirmed from their actually headstones.

I have compiled a working Word file of 33 pages of info from Artus (1550) to my Grandfather Henry W. Jr. (1924-2006). This is all the info I have found online without using paid features of any sites. This includes url links to all the sources that I have found. i update it regurlarly and will be adding pictures of the burial sites I have found.

What email address shall I send it to?

Jay

Hey I have compiled a lot of info in the past few weeks but I am having trouble finding anything on Nathaniel VDV(1782-1817). I know his parents are Paul VDV and Mary Banker.

The only info I can find comes from “A partial history and genealogical record of the Bancker or Banker families of America and in particular the descendants of Laurens Mattyse Bancker” ( http://www.archive.org/details/partialhistoryge00bank (pdf pages 294-298)):

"NATHANIEL Vandervort (127) lived in Pittstown,
Rensselaer Co., N. Y. and died in Troy about 1817. Nothing
more is known of him nor is it known whom he married. He had two children as follows: Orsemus. bo. Mar. 22, 1809;
Mary [b.1807]"

I have visited the Rensselaer County Historical Society and searched the library records of all cemeteries in Rensselaer county but have found nothing. I have found the grave sites of Orsemus, Adrian, Charles, Albert, Adrien Orsemus, Henry w. Sr. and Jr. Would really like to know more about Nathaniel.

Do you have any more info on him?

Thanks.

You can't judge relationships by "years off"; you need to document their parentage.

Don't forget -- multiple marriages were common back then due to the high birth rate. A man could easily have children whose ages spanned 40 years, due to multiple wives.

Also, women could bear children for twenty-five years or more, as well.

The only way to prove relationships, such as cousins, is to document their family lines with appropriate records.

Cousins marrying cousins was much more common back then as well.

Family DNA Project

A few years ago I established the Vandiver Family DNA Project in order to help solve some of the “brick walls” facing those who have researched this family the last 150 years. To date, I have only been able to attract 8 participants without solving any issues until recently. The 8th participant proved that many of the Vandiver’s today were descended from the Vanderford family, a branch of which suddenly and purposefully changed their surnames in the 1750’s. Though this one issue has been resolved, there are many others that could just as easily be settled with some key participation.

What is really needed are documented descendants of the following individuals:

1.	Michael Paulszen Vandervoort – believed to be the ancestor of the Vanderford family.
2.	Jacop Van der Veer – founder of the early Delaware family.
3.	Cornelius Jansen Vanderveer – founder of the early Long Island family.
4.	Any descendant of a Vanderford in early Maryland records.

Descendants of lines not proven back to these progenitors are just as important. There are a variety of family lines which trace back then miss only one or two generations before connecting. Jacob Vandiver who died in 1734 in St. Mary’s Co., MD is a good example.

If you are interested in participating in the project, or know someone who might be interested, you can go to the following link for more information http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?code=A57275&amp..., or write me directly at zanpak2001@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
Jerry D.
Yes Simon,
You are correct. My Dad immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his 2 brothers and sister. He left 5 siblings back in Holland. He was from Sassenheim which is very close to Lisse. My Grandma was Johanna Rotteveel born 1894 and she married Anthony Vandervoort born 1887 in Sasseheim. They had 9 children and my Grandpa I believe came from about 6 children.

She is also buried in oakland cemetery. There are no markers on the graves.
Hi Nancy!

It is good to finally hear from someone that knows of this link!

Here is some info on my great grandmother -
Jodie Rona Lynn Clemmons
B - 18 Sep 1868 TN
D - 27 May 1948 Crowley, TX
M - 22 Oct 1893 Sowers, Dallas Co., TX
Father - Williamson G Clemmons: B - Mar 1828 SC ? D - Bet 1900-1910 Dallas, TX
Mother - Malinda Parizade Childress: B - Nov 1832 (GA?) D - Bet 1910-20, Dallas, TX.
(Said to be 1/2 or 1/4 Cherokee)

Ed & Jodie VDV inherited or bought the duplex where Malinda P Clemmons was living in Dallas. Malinda's son, Otho Clemmons, was married to a Daisy and they were also residents of the same duplex for awhile.

The follwoing are only guessed to be her siblings -
Jesse F Clemmons B 1853
George B Clemmons B Jul 1853 (twins?)
Otho D Clemmons B 1872 TN - (likely a younger brother)

George B Clemmons is said to have married Mary A Wheeler which was the maiden name of my great grandmother who married Orin Vandervo(o)rt in 1865 (f&m of Ed Vandervoort who married Jodie). They were neighbors in Sowers and Eagle Ford if they are the same person. We lost contact in records with Mary A after a terrible house fire in 1885 in which she lost 4 children. Oren apparently died alone in 1895 in Eagle Ford.

The VDV family did not discuss the Clemmons/Childress family info or even their own except for the names of f/m above. I have run into brick walls for info on Jodie's side and no one is alive that knows.

Any info on this mystery is greatly appreciated!

PS - I have data that says Ed VDV was Edward and others that say Edwin and even an "E. D." Since he only went by "Ed" in all doucments we found, I do not really know if he had another "official" name. (M fahter went to his funeral in 1958 and only knew him by that name.)

Mike VDV

relatives of Vandervoort. Married? a Haynie male?

Looking for any relatives of the Vandervoort family. My grandmother(maiden name)gave birth to 3 daughters, between the years of 1936 and 1939. Unfortunately 2 of the girls passed away at birth or shortly thereafter. The third daughter's name is Faye Rene Haynie. This is my biological mother. My parents separated when I was very young so I have never had the opportunity to meet her and would very much, like that opportunity now.
Faye was born in California on June 28, 1939. As far as I can find she had 4 children...2 boys...Mark E. Richards and Danny Steakley Jr and 2 girls...Debra L Richards and myself, Donna Jean Cornell.
If anyone can assist me, I would be very grateful.
Thank You, in advance for any help or information.

Donna Cornell Swanson
e-mail: donnaswansong420@yahoo.com

Julie: My great great grandparents were William Vandervoort and Therressa Harvey. They were married in 1845 and came from Warren and Clinton Co. Ohio respectively. They came to Bloomington about 1850. Therressa died and was buried in the Haywood cemetery, around 1885. I saw here gravestone. There were other Vandervoort families in the area and it sounds like one of them was named after my ancestor. What is your interest in the family? Bob
