He has a Veterens gravesite at Cypress Hills National Cemetery.

I was just going over our family records and came accross this message. I know that Anthony and Irene Van Wert Howey had 2 children. Sena Howey was born in 1917 and died in Dec 1918 of pnuemonia. Joseph was married and had one child, JOY, who is still living and is in Scranton, Pa. We met with Joy over this weekend. She is my husbands cousin on the Van Wert side of the family. Great to see your message. I am living in Scranton Pa. 1303 Diamond Ave. Scranton, PA 18508. I did live near Philly, Hershey, Harrisburg. After 25 yrs I am divorced moved back to Scranton. My Mom Binnie(Albina Howey) is 88 and I came back to help. Wondered about Ford and Gary. How they are, where they are. I'm 2 yrs younger than Gary. My Dad Joe Howey and Ford's Dad were more like brothers than Uncle and nephew. Amelia was my Great Grandmother. A few months ago Tootsie's husband passed away and I went to funeral home hoping to see cousins. Joey was there and we spoke briefly. Would love to hear from you. Would love to know dates and names of ancesters before Ameilia and Stephen if the dates are in bible. Our cousin Richard Van Wert (Philly) is very interested too. His Dad Walter Van Wert referred to Amelia as Aunt Melia. Walter known as Dooney married my Mom's sister Irene. Walter has passed on. Hi to Ford.

Amelia Van Wert was my GreatGrandMother. She was married to Stephen Van Wert. Her children were Irene Howey, Charles Van Wert, Ford Van Wert, Lillian Palito. Irene Howey was my Grandmother. My Father was Joseph Howey. Ford Van Wert Jr. and Gary Van Wert are my cousins. I believe Permeilia Van Wert is Amelia Van Wert's Mother. Her grave is in the oldest part of the Dunmore Cemetery,Dunmore, PA. Amelia is buried in the same cemetery in another section. The records at the cemetery does show that a baby with the name Amelia is also buried in the oldest part of cemetery.

I recently saw a few references of yours concerning the above two families.

I have a connection to Joseph Howey who was living with Stephen and Amelia Vanwert of Scranton in 1930. And now I'm stumped.

Joseph Howey's parents were Anthony and Irene Vanwert Howey.

Anthony Howey's parents were Edward and Mary Harding Howey.

Edward Howey's father is purported to be James Howey and his mother was Amanda Howey.

Amanda Howey was a daughter of James and Hannah Courtright Howey.

James Howey was a brother of Jacob Howey who was my ggg grandfather.

I guess the big question is whether Joseph Howey, whom I believe died in Scranton in 1976, has any survivng family.

If you're interested, I'd really like to exchange info with you.

Dianne, Job well done on your family search. I have some of the same info. My father's name was Walter, his father's name was Walter, his father's name was William that you mentioned and his father was Stephen. That is as far back as I got also except that I went a little further on the Abigail Gray side. Her parents were Eli and Permelia Gray. And Eli's parents were Elizah and Julia Gray. Where do you fit in and where do you live now? We are the Van Wert's that grew up in Scranton.

I show an Issac Van Woert born 4/20/1769 to Nicholas and Mary(Staats)Van Woert, but have no further info on him. There is also a Hendrikie born 8/2/1766 to Louis and Catharyntje(Van Den Bergh) Van Woert.
There is a Henry Van Woert age 49 carpenter shown living at 49 Ferry in the 1841 Schenectady, NY city directory which can be found at http://www.scpl.org/citydirectories/1841/st017.html
Let me know if any of this ties in, my line breaks off with Issac's brother Abraham.

I have tracked Stephen from the 1930 Census to the 1860 census where he was living with Henry Van Wert and his family.
In the 1850 census both Henry and Stephen are located in the household of WM Van Wert. I am trying to determine if the Stephen and Henry listed here are the same people. The birth years are within 1 year of the 1860 census.
Can anyone help me confirm this information?

I just lost the message so I will redo it. We have a Margaret Hitchcock but died in infancy. Her brother was Charles Augustus who married Mary Adelaide Williams in 1869. They came to Knox Co. Il 2-8-1875. I am looking for Charles' sister Jane A. Hitchcock born in Westchester, NY also in 1860 though. I found her in 1880 census for Manhattan in school it said. There were sis brothers and sisters originally all belonging to Hannah jE. Ryer and John Hitchcock from Westchester NY. 2 girls died in infancy. John Henry, Louis, and Charles came to IL and most setteled here. All within 20 to 40 miles of each other and passed away here also--Farmington, FultonCo. Yates City Knox Co. and Elmwood, Peoria Co. Stephen Van Wert in Scranton, PA

I am trying to find all possible connections to Stephen Van Wert. He married Abigail Gray. They lived at one point in time, in Scranton, PA. They had 4 children that I can find: William H., Walter A., Samuel M, and Amelia. I beleive that at one point it time Amelia was Permeilia according to some census records.

I have been unable to locate Stephen's parents or Abigail's parents.

I am a direct decendant of Amelia Van Wert who according to family gossip married another Stephen Van Wert (different line, no relation). But I have been unable to locate any reference to this.

If there is anyone that could give me a direction to follow it would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to share all information that I have gathered so far in my research.

I believe that this Cassius is somehow related to a Sophia Nee unknown VanWort. They are living in LaSalle County, IL from 1860 to abt. 1870. Sophia is not living far from Cassius with a Henry Jones and his children his wives are deceased living two little girls and a step son (Garret Wilson), Annie from his first marriage to Betsey Smith Wilson and Ida from Eliza Englehaupt. Garret is from Betsey's previous marriage to George A. Wilson.

My G-Grandmother was Catherine Van Wart who mar. Frank Sohnca1887 prly in NYC. She died in New Jersey Mar 9, 1923. From her death Reg., we have learned that her parents were Lawrence Van Wart & Rosanna McCadden who mar. ca1857. We think Lawrence is a descendant of Martinus Van Wart. I have in my genealogy Dorothy, b. 1916, Charles, b. 1919, Albert, b. 1920 and Warren VAN WERT, b. 1922, children of Reginald VAN WERT, MD and Edna J. [perhaps Grundner]. They were divorced in the late 1920s. She lived on Academy St. in Manhatten. Reginald was the son of Charles VAN WERT, MD, and Mary E. CAUKINS [his mother-in-law lived with him in 1920, and her name was CAUKINS]. They all lived in NYC.

I think I may be able to help you a little with your genealogy. Are you from a NYC family of physicians, i.e. MDs? I have a Reginald VANWERT, MD, married to Edna Grundner [I think], divorced circa 1925. They had four children, Dorothy b. 1916, Charles, b. 1919, Albert, b. 1920 & Warren b. 1922. Edna lived on Academy St. in NYC and she was an insurance agent. Their grandfather's name was Charles VANWERT, MD., married to Mary E. Calkins [I think]. He had only two boys, Reginald & Julian. am the great, great, great, great grandaughter of Isaac Van Wert.

I have many documents, journals and items passed down to me through generations of the Van Wert blood line. The silverware that has engraved initials "VW"
was given to me recently when my mother died November 2000. There is a sea of information and old photos of William and Alice Van Wert, also descendants of Isaac Van Wert. Alice was my great grandmother and recall paying a visit as a child when she turned 100 years old.

I am still trying to piece it altogether. I have a drafted tree that include other surnames; Tilton, Nolte, Sherburne and Clifford.

Is there any information that you have that may fill in the blanks for me? Also, please feel free to call if you'd like.

I an diane, daughter of kathleen vanwert.My grand father was charles vanwert married to ciecila klimoski. My grandfathers mother was Ruth vanwert see was married to dr.vanwert do not know his name. He had a sister named Dolly and two brothers one was named warren vanwert. My mother died in 1985 and I was not raised with her. I have spent a lot of time tring to find any living family members that could tell me about my grandfathers side. Both my mother and father have past-on. Can you share what information on Isaac you have (Brothers, children etc) I believe I am a desendant of Isaac but, more like he was a Great-Great-Great Uncle. My Great-Great-Grandfather was William VanWert who came to Michigan from NewYork in 1848.(about the same time Rachel, Isaac's wife died) There has to be a connection with him and Isaac and I just cannot fine it. I don't know who this person is and why she's buried with my family, but her name is Ruth M. Vanwirt, died dec. 3, 1862 in IL. She is buried at Millington Cemetery in Millington, Kendall Co., IL.

My family was Nathaniel Jones, bn 1780 CT and Lovina Tryon, bn 1782 in VT.

These families were from MA, NY, CT, VT, PA, IL

The Jones came to IL after 1840 and appear on the 1850 Census in LaSalle Co., IL

On the 1860 census there is a Sophia VanWort living with Nathaniel's son Henry C. Jones in Northville, LaSalle Co., IL. Sophia was bn in 1808 in VT and dissapears after that. Maybe even Ruth and Sophia are related or even the same person. I do not know how or who these VanWort/Vanwirt woman are? Any help on this connection would be greatly appreciated.
