Thanks for your response. Five years to the day from my posting, almost exactly!

This is not my tree: Jeff Vasey and I have been sorting out various PA Vasey families over the past years. I don't know anything about the Price family of NY. Have you seen jvasey121's tree for John Vasey? If not, you should contact him and take a look.

Also, I have started a Vasey website on RootsWeb:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~vaseyroots...

Carol

Hello,
I have some information regarding Cordelia Price Vasey. My husband's relative would be her son Walker Vasey. Cordelia came from New York and married John Vasey (1809-1892). They lived in Philadelphia, Pa and had a vast number of children (10, I believe). They owned (or at least ran) a saloon named "Our House". They also resided at one point in Delaware. They are both buried in Laurel Hill cemetery outside of Phila., Pa.

If you have more information I would love to exchange it. I have been having a hard time finding more information about Cordelia and the Price family of New York.
Thanks!

There were several Vasey Families in early Pennsylvania. To date, we have uncovered these lines:

Joel Vasey b. ca 1793 = Hannah Pearson (Solebury, Bucks Co.)

Samuel Vasey, b. 1808 = ?
The 1823 passengers, William and Jane of Scarborough, England, sailed on the 'Florida' and settled in New York. Three children (John, William and George, the famous botanist, then age 1) came over with them, and they eventually had a total of ten children, including Arron, who died in the battle of Vicksburg. That's most of what I remember off the top of my head. I do also remember that many members made their way to Illinois over time, later moving on to other states. Ouida Vasey did much documentation on her portion of this family, and I have a copy of her research in a binder. She and her husband, like Jeff and his father, travelled to Scarborough. I hope to eventually enter her Vasey documentation in the computer, so that her research is made more permenant and available (one of the mant projects for my senior years, which haven't started yet). Right now it's in a box in my attic while we're under construction. This thread was started in 2001, quite a while back! I'll see if I can dig it out this winter, when I have more time.

Regards to all,
Carol

I have quite a bit of information for whoever needs it. Believe it or not, I am actually in Ebberston with my father Roger at the moment for this purpose. I have a great deal of information now on William and Jane and four generations farther back. Best regards, Jeff Vasey

Hello Grace,
I have the death cert. for both Michael and Winifred. They are also buried in St. John's. No info on Michaels death, but Winfred has first name that I can not read Gallagher and Ellen unknown as mother.Michaels is filled out by my Great grandmother Katherine "Kate" Canavan nee Vasey. My vaseys lived on Terrace street.
LDS film
Witness for Maria, bat. Sept 15, 1866 are Thomas Vesy and Anna Gallagher
Witness for Catherine Vesy Bat. July 24, 1864 are Patrick Vesy and Catherine Mart_n
Witness for Patrick Vesy bat. on jan. 27, 1863 are Patrick Bryan and Maria Brennen
Now, is this Patrick a brother or a cousin?
One of my problems with the Charlestown area is that there are 2 Michael Vesy's showing up! arg! Are they cousins?

They show up on the 1900 census on Terrace Street ed460, pg 1B Ward 21. It shows them as entering the US in 1880.
I'm not sure when they moved to Terrace Street.
If they came over in 1880, It must have been after the 1880 census.(rats)
Gerry

Gerry, Thanks for the info, especially the film #s. I have a couple of questions. If the RC parish baptismal records for Kilbeagh start with 1855, where did you get Michael's birth info? Do you have any idea who his parents were?
I have found the Death Notice from the Phila Inquirer for Michael. He died March 21, 1910. I also found Winifred's Death Notice. She died June 18, 1909. I could check for both their Death Certs at the Phila City Archives, they should list their parents' names. I hope to get there next week.
In January, I found Mary's Death Cert, but she died in 1892, before the city started listing parents' info on the Death Cert.
Also, if Michael was born in 1841, and Mary was born in 1847, it is possible that Patrick was also a sibling born in 1853. Many women had children spanning 15 to 20 years, especially if they started when they were younger than 20.
I have just checked the 1890 Phila Gopsill's City Directory . The only Michael Vasey (or variant) lived in Phila, not near Manayunk. There was also a James Vasey living at the same address. Have you located Michael's family in the 1891 UK Census? I just did a quick search for them in Phila in 1900, but no luck. Have you found them there?
Let me know whatever else you have.
All the best. Grace.
Hello Grace,
Michael was born Feb. 27, 1841. They where in Mayo until after 1869 when Ellen Vasey was born. They went through Schotland, because John was born there in 1871. Then they went to Bately from 1873 to 1883. Winifred lost at least 3 children in Bately. Joseph Michael was born in Manayunk Nov. 11, 1894. It could be the same family for Mary. A Patrick Vesy and Winifred Gallagher were witnesses for thier marriage. Vesy is how it is written in the early records for Charlestown area and also in some Latin. Also remember that some spell it Vesey as wellVasey. I only have records for who my mother knew in the Manayunk area. I have been trying to hunt my cousin down. but I live in maryland and it is hard when so far away. The LDS #is 926009 for the parish of Kilbeagh.(1845 -1950)If you go to the LDS page they will break it down for you(birth, death, marriage and years). Patrick age is a little young to be a brother. Could be a nephew.
Here is a trick for the LDS films. Use a digital camera without the flash. Use the zoom in or Macro setting. That way you can take it home and play with it on the computer. They always seem to make bad copies on the machines at the churches.!:(
There are also Farrell families in the Charlestown area.
keep me posted. I need to revisit that film anyway. Talk about a small world. My parents now live in Flordia. A couple just moved in 2 doors down and the women is from Charlestown. We will be drilling them for info.hehehe There is another line of Vasey's just over the Mayo line in Roscommon and also another line down the road southeast of Charlestown. So good hunting.
Gerry Koller
Westminster, MD.

Gerry, Good to hear from you. Since I posted the Vasey info last year, I found the marriage registration. Mary Vasey and Edward Farrell were married 1 Aug 1864 in Batley. He was 25 and she was 17, consistent with their ages on the 1871 UK census. Her father was Thomas Vasey, a farm labourer. Witnesses were Garrett Farrell (Edward's brother, also married in Batley that year and lived near Edward in Philly) and Ellen Brett. I can find no Thomas Vasey in Griffith's Valuation. Patrick's age on the 1871 census was 18.
By the way, the area Mary and Edward settled in in Philly was Falls of Schuykill (now East Falls) the next community over from Manayunk.
You mentioned the naming order for the children. I am familiar with it, but it appears that this family did not strictly follow it. Their oldest son, Thomas, was named for the mother's father and the second son, Richard, was named for the father's father. Richard was my g grandfather.
About when was your Michael born? What years do you have for them in Mayo and Batley? When were they in Manayunk? Is Michael the right generation to be Mary's brother? Have you followed the family in Manayunk with census, city directories, death certs, etc.? Are there films of church records for Charlestown at LDS? Let me know what you have. I have tracked all of my gg grandparents back to their roots in Ireland except for 3 people and 2 of them are Edward Farrell and Mary Vasey. I know what you mean by having it bad.
All the best. Grace.

Harvey married Sarah Lear and according to the 1880 census they lived with their 3 children Harry, Laura and A. Harvey in Solebury, Bucks County, PA. I'm looking for ancestors of Harvey. I have the descendents.
