Hi. I can't help you wilth your genealogy question but I would suggesst to you that you get your DNA researched. I am a Stephens descendent and we relate to the Vaughans and a group of other people with different surnames with nearly identical DNA. We can find no genealogical links. I suspect we were linked in the motherland, possibly in a place such as Wales which used a patronymic naming system. Others believe we link in this country. It is fascinating. We are finding it is about the only way to determine links with any assurance because of all the loss of records, particularly southern records. Good luck to you. I know I am related to a Rusty Vaughan; I just don't know how. Very frustrating! Linda Stephens Collins

Hello, I am not researching Stephen in particular, but I am looking for Vaughn/Vaughan's in Georgia and North Carolina. I am trying to find the birthplace and parents of James Edward Vaughn/an. Census records show he was born in Georgia abt 6 June 1822 and his parents (unknown) were born in North Carolina. As the spelling of the name has changed since immigrating to America (actually using both spellings) I have been looking at both spellings as possibilities. I thank all of you.
Hi. Intrigued by the Stephen Vaughn in Wake County. We (Stephens) connect to the Vaughan by DNA, a close connection. My last known ancestor was Joshua Stephens who died intestate in 1761 in Wake/Johnston. He lived on Middle Creek where in intersects with Mills Branch, not too far from Wake Technical College. Do you know where your Stephen Vaughan lived in Wake County? Do you know of any relationship with Stephens?<br><br>Linda Stephens Collins

Re: John and Lydia Vaughan - Mays Landing, NJ

John Stout and Lydia Frazier Vaughn (daughter of Daniel and Sarah Frazier of Mays Landing) are my great-great-great grandparents. I have done quite a bit of research on the family and have a copy of their family Bible and other records. They were married on 9 Mar 1834 and resided in what is now referred to as the Newcomb House on the Great Egg Harbor river (on Old River Rd). John was a sea captain and was owner and master of the schooners Elizabeth A. and Sarah Jane Vaughn (I have the original copy of his "Schooner Log" for the Elizabeth A. and Sarah Jane Vaughn covering the years 1851-1866). John and Lydia had nine children: Amelia (1834-1835), Benjamin H. (1836-1923), John Jr. (1838-1842), Augustus (1842-1843), John, Jr. (1844-1851), Daniel F. (1846-1930), Bartine (1849-1864), Francis aka Frank (1850-1943), he is my great-great grandfather, and Alexander (1853-1903). Benjamin, Daniel and Frank also became sea captains, that latter two in Mays Landing. Lydia Frazier Vaughn died on 1 May 1853 and John subsequently married Lydia's younger sister Sarah Jane Frazier, probably in 1855. You can find Sarah Jane living with the John and Lydia Vaughn family in the 1850 census. John had four more children with Sarah Jane: William H. (1855-1863), Lydia A. aka Lillie (1857-1880), John W. (1862-aft. 1930) and Eva Lena (1870-1878). Lydia Frazier Vaughn (1814-1853) was buried in Westcott Free Burying Ground in Mays Landing with five of her children: Amelia, John, Jr., Augustus, John, Jr. and Bartine. William H. (Willie), son of John and Sarah Jane, was also buried there. Most of the rest of the family is buried in Union Cemetery, Mays Landing. One plot has the graves (marked with a single monument) of Captain John Vaughn (1810-1902), Sarah Jane Vaughn (1830-1893), Lena Vaughn (1870-1878), Lillie Vaughn (1857-1880), and Benjamin H. (1836-1923), Alexander Vaughn (1853-1903), and Cornelia, Alexander's wife (1864-1949). Buried nearby are Cornelia's 2nd husband Harry V. Newcomb (1856-1922), his 1st wife Eliza J. Newcomb (1864-1904), who was also Cornelia's close friend, and Harry and Eliza's daughter Edna N. Freney (1892-1983), whose ancestors now own the Newcomb house. In a separate plot (also marked with a single monument) are: Captain Frank Vaughn (1850-1943), his wife Jennie E. [Nichols] Vaughn (1852-1920), their daughter Lena V. Schenck (1878-1954), she is my great-grandmother who was first married to George Harris Risley (son of Atlantic County Surrogate and Hamilton Twp Freeholder, John S. Risley), but after their divorce in ~1913, she married William S. Schenck in 1921, Wm. S. Schenck (1873-1940), and Alonzola N. [Vaughn] (1883-1892), daughter of Frank and Jennie Vaughn. In a 3rd plot are the graves of Daniel Vaughn (1846-1930), his wife Amanda Hudson Vaughn (1848-?) and their daughter Mary C. (1868-1886). Please feel free to e-mail me for further information (<a href="mailto://thomas9991@sbcglobal.net">thomas9991@sbcglobal.net</a>).

Appeared in the Jan 3, 1908 Lafayette, CO newspaper:<br>"Death of Thomas Vaughan<br>Thomas Vaughan, aged 53 (?), born in South Wales, died at his home in Lafayette at 2:10 p.m. on December 29, from pneumonia, after a short illness.<br>Mr. Vaughan came to this country in 1871, lived in Beacon, Iowa for a year, and moved from there to Erie, Colo, at which place he resided for four years. He then moved to Salt Lake City, and from there to California.<br>In 1885 he returned to Colorado, to make his residence at Lafayette, where he resided continuously up to the time of his decease. Mr. Vaughan was a pioneer coal miner of this region, having formerly been the owner of the Vaughan Slope mine, and holding an interest in the old Baker mine, now abandoned. He has been known in the coal fields of Northern Colorado for thirty five years, and particularly during the last twenty two years of his residence here. He was known for his kindly works and was honored and respected by all with whom he came in contact.<br>He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Improved Order of Red Men, and was attended during his illness by members of those orders. He leaves a wife and daughter Elizabeth; a half sister and two half brothers.<br>The funeral took place on January 1, from the home of deceased, Rev. J.C.P. Hester officiating. The body was interterred [sic] in Lafayette cemetery, the services at the grave being under the joint auspices of the Eagles and Red Men.<br>The floral offerings were numerous and very beautiful, some pieces being received from the east. The many friends of the family sincerely mourn the loss of one of our pioneer citizens."<br>Submitter not related.<br>

John and Lydia Vaughan - Mays Landing, NJ

I am recording the graves in the Westcott Free Burying Ground in Mays Landing, NJ. There is a Vaughan family there. Parents are John and Lydia. Kids are Amelia, Augustus, Bartine, and John Jr. All lived and died in the early 1800s. There is also a grave for William H. Vaughan, son of John and Sarah, who died in 1869 at 8 years old. I believe that many of the dates on the stones and in the genealogical records of the county (Atlantic) are incorrect. Does anyone know this family?

If you have not already made contact with LEE PENDERGRAFT, you need to do so. Lee is the great grandson of William Jennings (stepson of Vaughan) I descend from the Jennings family...my great great grandmother married James Vaughn and had more children with him. They went to Brazil after the War Between the States. "Your" Clement Jennings was the 4th and youngest son of Elizabeth Brett Jennings. He was born about 1852 in Wilson Co., TN. His mother,Elizabeth was married 1st to Clem Jennings in Wilson Co., TN.They had 4 sons. He died and she next married John Wilson in Wilson Co., TN. They had no children together. He died. She 3rd married James Vaughan. James had been married 2 times before Elizabeth and had several children by the first wives. He and Elizabeth had more children together. Of the 4 Jennings sons, 3 of them remained in Brazil with their parents (Elizabeth and step father James Vaughn) However, the oldest Jennings son did not remain in Brazil. He returned to the US and settled in Arkansas. I descend from the oldest son. There is a photo of George Jennings. I do not have it. Lee Pendergraft may have a copy to scan and send you. There are very few photos of the family in Brazil at that time. Lee and I (mostly Lee) have been trying to compile as much information as possible to record in a book form. You could contribute to it, I am sure! Please contact Lee and tell him Caroline gave you his email. Make sure to put something like "Jennings in Brazil" in the subject box when emailing him...or something that will let him know you are from the family line and searching for info. LEE's email : <a href="mailto://lop8308@yahoo.com">lop8308@yahoo.com</a>. Feel free to contact me again.

My records indicate that Miles Malone Vaughan was born on 17 Dec 1826 in MS, and died 23 Jan 1906 in Mullen, Mills Co., TX. He was the son of William H. Vaughan (unproven) b. 1775 VA died between 1847-1855 Layfette Co., MS on 1850 MS Census. Miles siblings were: David M., Walton "Doc" Harris, Thomas Hundley, Murphy (my ancestor), Jane, Melkijah Deerberry, Word Gideon, and William M. VAUGHAN. David and Walton were born in GA, Thomas born in AL, and the rest born in MS. In my research, several of the boys came to TX and died in Anderson Co., TX, Leon Co., TX and Houston Co., TX with Miles as stated above. IF you have any proofs of these children's parentage, please respond. Sincerely, Phyllis Vaughan Moody, Houston

You know I have actually done some research into the 6th TN since my GG Grandfather Jackson J King was in it. He did not get mustered in until close to the end of the war but he was there. He had two brothers who fought on the confederate side. He also had a brother tht was in the 6th tN with him. their father George King was Pro Union according to sources. Julius Hurst who wrote " Hurst Nation" was the grandson of John Calvin King who was Jackson's brother. Interesting!! Actually I don't live too far from Bolivar, so I may go out since it is not as hot now and see what I can find. Bye!!

We may have exhausted the records at the court house. Likely need to start with churches east and northeast of Bolivar. There is a cemetery on church grounds east of there that has pictures on many of the markers. Needed bug spray back then, so did not stay long. There is a Vaughn Rd NE of town with 3 cemeteries and 2 churches with in 2miles of it.<br><br> Plus some folks did not like this Yankee coming down there, and 6th TN Cav had a very bad reputation. Col Hurst was just flat out nasty.

That makes sense. In fact I have family on my father's side named King, who lived in McNairy County during the Civil War and at least two of the sons, one of whom was my GG Grandfather were also in the 6th TN Cavalry.Back to Vaughans, you are the only person who has posted George as a brother to Benjamin Vaughan. I think that he was too. In the 1850 census, he stated that he was born in SC,just as Benjamin stated. Jane Vaughan stated she was born in SC, so they must have lived there for some time as Benjamin and George, Francis and Dolly stated they were born there. I would like to find some record that tells us where they were in SC. Where would you go in Bolivar first for information? Keep me posted!! Thanks

I think it was a John Vaughn, but have no proof. I need another week stay in Bolivar and about a week in the Carolina's to find information.<br><br>The move in 1860 was not to stay out of the war, but because of George's Pro Union stance. George his son Nathaniel and I believe an older brother to George, John Vaughn joined the 6th Tenn Cav(US).

Looking for info on who his parents were. In 1850 he is in Hardeman County with a wife named Dolley or Delila. They have 5 children. In 1860 they are in McNairy County with nine children. Can't find them in 1870, but in 1880 they are in Tamarca, Perry, Illinois with only Benjamin and John. Could be they were trying to keep the boys out of the war.

I am the granddaughter of William Wesley Vaughan and the daughter of the late Vera Faye(Vaughan) Wammack. You are right if you are from the family of William Wesley Vaughan of Childress Texas you do have Chawtau blood. My grandfather and all of his brother are on the Chawtau indian roll.I would like information on the Oldham lines I know nothing about that side of my family. <br>Wanda Baker (Vaughan-Wammack)
